I've seen a lot pf people writing about "THEIR feelings" and how to be harsh. Is it too hard to be gracious to someone who meant well, even if the efforts were somewhat awkward and seemed insensitive? Hmmm....maybe it is.

Terry - You handled it great.
No, considering he was on the clock, representing the employer. When you serve the public, they have a lot of liberty to say what they want that you don't.
If Terry's not careful, his employer may require him to take sensitivity training.;)

She heard nothing I said (and I spoke sincerely) and discounted my feelings, my values, my history and my choices. She waved them away. She didn't even grant me personhood. I was merely a shell on the beach to be picked up and tucked away in some collection marked "Things found".
Terry,
You brought up a very good point that I think every Christian who conducts evangelism should consider. Some Christians can do "cold call" evangelism and some churches push it; your reason is the reason I cannot.

1 Cor. 13:8
by sunshine2 in.....so if gifts of prophecying were done away with, maybe the society did not read this scripture.......maybe this is the reason they are always wrong.
i wonder how a witness would explain this scripture.

The gift of prophecy continued at least into the book of Acts.
Dispensationalists maintain that this gift as something supernatural was done away with at the arrival of the "perfect"--the New Testament. The text does not demand this interpretation.

Terry,
If you were going to engage in a conversation with her instead of just excusing yourself, why be vague? Why not tell her you came out of JW?
She was just trying to help in the way she knew how.
Obviously you let your guard down. People in customer service are not supposed to state opinions or express emotions that may offend the customer, obviously--it isn't usually good for business. If the customer complains to management, it could result in a reprimand.
I wonder if this lady realizes that prayer doesn't always work in the way the praying person expects.

Yes, i did for about two yrs. I went to mainly pentacostal ones. Enjoyed it, until i found out about the bible.

I've seen another brief reference like this from you, Satanus. You're one of a few who made the transition from JW to a Christian Church and left. I'd really like to read your story about the whole process--your thoughts & impressions, and what prompted you to make the decisions you made--esp. to leave a Pentecostal church, which emphasizes the work of the Holy Spirit. Maybe you could post a new thread if that works for you.

DID YOU KNOW THIS about the BIBLE?
by Terry inthe oldest manuscripts are not considered the most reliable.. there are no "autograph" texts.
none.. there are no "original" manuscripts.. no two manuscripts agree.. the bible as we know it only came together in the form it now holds because certain men decided it should do so.. neither jesus nor his apostles or disciples carried bibles.. the apostle paul didn't carry a bible and none of his letters were in any of the scrolls considered holy scripture at the time he was preaching and forming christian theology as it is now understood to be.. largely, what the bible is today, is the result of certain men with certain agendas who had the authority to make their project happen.
they also had the power to destroy writings which did not agree with their agenda.

The chaos and inhumanity of the world is our doing. God works in the midst of that without removing it. To some extent, he lets us have our way, even if it is contrary to his, but He figures it into the plan.

I used to work under a supervisor who got a kick out of trying to push people's buttons. A complete stranger would come by and my sup would make some outrageous statement in such a serious tone that it had to come across as sincere, then he would turn his head my way and wink as if to say, "It's a joke. Let's see what happens." Some people took him seriously and got defensive, some figured it out and played along. Eventually, he would say he was just kidding, but he never apologized.

Watch those Germans!!!!!
by Gill ini was having trouble sleeping the other night and switched the tv on to bbc 2. there was a programme on about the sw region of africa and a country called namibia.
early in the 20th century namibia was under the control of the german colonialists.
the germans were rather keen on getting more land for themselves as there were a couple of large tribes of black peoples living in namibia.

Being half-German myself, I have to wonder. Some of the best AND worst in history came from there.
