I got a nice surprise yesterday...
by Mastodon inmy wife and i started fading about 2 1/2 years ago, but for different reasons.
she had noticed the lack of love and justice in the congregations, even experienced some firsthand and the abusive conduct of elders against the r&f.
on the other side, i was starting my research on the wt and had pretty much decided i didn't want any part in the borg.

I am going all out for Christmas this year! First one I will really celebrate, although I did in tiny bits before when I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I love Christmas time. I was 17 before I became one of Jehovah's Witnesses so I quite remember what a happy time it was for me and I am ready to do it again (as long as my money holds out).

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #152 Why did you believe in 1914?
by ozziepost inso owyergoin' this fine weekend?
down here, underneath the world, we've had a strange week weatherwise; from heatwave to 'sheets back on the bed' weather.
it should settle into summer very soon.

They told me so it must be true. And, I calculated from 607 BC to 1914 and yep, that was it, along with WW1!

Gerard, thank you for posting the link to "quotes" on voting. I saved it to my file. I am simply flabbergasted by the new policy of voting being a matter of conscience. When I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses, voting was not a matter of conscience. It was considered being friendly with the "beast" and not done by any Jehovah's Witness.

Uh...hi...
by klinton ini was looking around the internet, trying to locate an image of god's chariot to show someone, and i found this little place here.
it's...interesting.
as far as i can tell from poking around there seems to be a mix of the faithful, the inactive, and the disfellowshiped (like myself).

Haunted Hall
by Virgogirl inwas it just me, or did anyone else experience unsettling, wierd vibes inside a kingdom hall?
it used to creep me out, it felt almost eerie and spooky inside.
sometimes we opened the doors on saturday afternoon to clean, and it was all dark and sinister inside when we entered, and it almost felt like something was in there, not good vibes, either.

It was definitely unsettling and disturbing to me. I thought it was because I was demonized as they claimed I wasl.

How long would it take? (Physics question, sort of. Maybe)
by AlmostAtheist inlet's say i've got a length of solid material that is one light year long.
it's just hanging there in space, between galaxies, not affected by gravity enough at any point along its length to be twisted, bent, whatever.
let's also say that it is resistent to flexing.. i'm at one end of this impossibly-existing rod, and you are at the other.

Thanks for the thread and all the intelligent and funny answers! They really lifted my mood, making me laugh out loud. I have been absorbed by personal problems that have kept me away from the board for the last two weeks. This forum brightens my day.

My heart goes out to you, Toby. I have been in your situation with my children when I left Jehovah's Witnesses. I really can't give you any advice other than what has already been given by the posters here, but I want to welcome you to the board and please keep us posted.
