i'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but i've recently begun to get the willies when i'm around an active jehovah's witness.
this didn't happen until after i started posting here.. when i stop by my parents' house on a saturday morning and the witnoids show up, i get a sinking feeling in my stomach....a mix between sickness, fear, and anger.
i used to try and put on a happy face and be sociable when they came in, but now i just wave goodbye and as i'm walking out.

When I have an encounter with them I get really freaked out. I tend to be really paranoid and sit my housemates down (again) for another talk about not giving out my phone number or any information about me to men in suits if they turn up on the door....

i was at a gas station, shuffling through the change in my cup holder.
i'm jobless and broke, and the gas guage is lit up to empty.
ive got $5.20 worth of change, as i walk in the gas station, theres a man with a huge stick with all these flags on it talking of his travels around the world.

It's a little corny but it has a great message. Someone does something nice for you and then you do something nice for 3 other people. They in turn do something nice for 3 other people each and so forth and so forth.
Look at what an impact that man's act of kindness had on you. I am sure he wasn't just standing in the petrol station expecting you to come along. He saw an opportunity to do something and he took it. So next time you see something you can do for someone then don't even think twice. Just do it. You will feel great for it and imagine how they will feel as well. You don't have to go around looking for things you will get your opportunities.

a christian friend of mine had a melt down this weekend and screamed at my roommate about both of us being "preachy atheists".
he also said, in talking about me, that "i can see it in his eyes, he think's he's right!
" it was after a bunch of drinks at a bar and my roommate said that he was nearly in tears.

Don't even think that... He we all have our emotions and feelings and thought patterns to process after being a JW. I think what your doing is a fairly normal EX JW response.

pfft... not at all. Actually I personally usually find you very funny and enjoy reading your posts serious or light hearted...
when you're in the process of fading, especially in the early months, there's this constant fear (or at least uneasiness) that you will run into a jw every time you walk into a supermarket, department store, movie theater, etc.
i'm thinking the best way to deal with this concern is to prepare a "presentation" in advance -- a sentence or two, or some talking points, so that when it happens i don't have to wonder what i'm going to say.
the problem is, i keep changing the message in my head.
On the advice from another poster to me last week, I plan on perfecting the look of being very happy and showing that I feel sorry for them all at the same time.
This may involve spending some time in front of the mirror.... oh dear...
i ran into a sister from my former congregation today, not seen her for a few months, and expected her to shun me like most of them do.
however, she made a point of talking to me,( and she knows i da'd recently).
after the usual how are you stuff she told me that even though i'm da'd she still considers me a friend and won't ignore me whatever the rest of them do, and whatever the elders say about it.

I bet you were surprised at her reaction towards you too. Keep in touch with her - you might be just what she needs. Doesn't sound too satisfied as a JW by going against their rules.
i really enjoy reading the stories/experiences you guys all post on here from your jdub days..... the funny, ridiculous, ironic ones make me laugh but reinforce in my mind that i've done the right thing by leaving that organisation.. the hurtful, sad, mean ones make me hurt as well but again - reinforce in my mind that i've done the right thing by leaving that organisation.. the scandals that go on - well same again - they reinforce in my mind that i've done the right thing by leaving that organisation.. i do appreciate the time you all take in writing down your stories and will never tire of reading them.
so if you have a story you haven't relayed here before because it is didn't seem relevant to a thread i would love to read it!.

I am starting to feel some of the old feelings of disgust when I write these old stories. I had no idea that I still felt anything about those times. Yuck. I am not sure whether to still post here or get some rest from it I can't believe I was envolved in all that JUNK and sick stuff!!!! And stayed!!!!!!!!!!! Its incredible isn't it. There are just so many incredible stories they just appear to be neverending at times. I find myself recalling a story I had long forgotten about and feeling shocked that I accepted certain things as normal. You go through all the range of emotions everytime one is recalled.
