This is the Judean People's Front criticising the People's Front of Judea. They just don't seem to get it, the JW organisation is rotten to the core and by the 1930s was certainly anti-Christian. There is abundant evidence that God or Jesus Christ has never had anything whatsoever to do with the organisation. That saying about pots, kettles and the colour black springs to mind.

What is "the Report"?
by Kenneson ini just ran across http://www.livingwatersforum.com with its heading proclaiming: "the yorww congregation speaks as a 'voice in the wilderness' to all the congregations of jehovah's witnesses--isaiah 40:3.
" they consider themselves jehovah's witnesses and are concerned with the watchtower society's apostasy and are therefore calling all jehovah's witnesses to repentance.
their spokesperson is donald c. burney, who is also the author of "the report" book.

How many true scholars/scientists are there really among JWs?
by zagor inthis is a question i've been puzzled by ever since my days in the borg.
everywhere i looked i saw tradesmen, cleaner, auto-mechanics here and there some computer technician.
and i do know there are two doctors, one gp and one specialist in the field of drug rehabilitation.. i've heard stories of some being true scholars though.

he produced the Watchtower's only ever Bible commentary.
Yes, my apologies, it was Ed Dunlap, not Ray Franz. -

Other religious viewpoints about paradise
by TheListener inone thing i haven't been able to successfully find or understand is how other major religions feel about the end of the system or the final judgement from god.. i've seen the left behind series.
do protestants in general feel that there will be a literal earth with people on it?.
do catholics believe that human spirits will be united with their physical bodies after the final judgement?.

Evanescence
I have not really studied this stuff much, but for some reason my mind is strongly biased against at least the popular versions of reincarnation. I certainly don't believe there is more than one incarnation in the physical world, but you never know about the possibility of other dimensions and universes.
Although I have doubts about Christianity, and the idea of transfiguration for all of us, including animals, I find that what people teach about reincarnation twice as hard to believe in. But that's just me, and perhaps my prejudices. I'll try to keep an open mind.

In any field, there is generally a geat deal of consensus about who are the greatest in that field.
Any good pysicist knows who the truly great physicists are. The good musicians know who are the truly great musicians. The same applies to any field ncluding theology, Bible commentary etc etc. Rather than learn from whoever seems to make a reasonable argument, or from someone who claims to speak for God, the sensible thing to do would be to read what the true greats in their field are teaching. Not foolproof but the best we can do.
I doubt you would find JWs to be prominent is any serious field, least of all Bible interpretation or commentary (especially since Ray Franz was kicked out for didcovering the truth about the truth - he produced the Watchtower's only ever Bble commentary).

Thanks Kazaar,
I'm ex-catholic, then SDA, then Agnostic. Then I read that Keith Ward book which got me thinking. I never quite bought the literalism (eg creation) of adventists.
Many JW teaching originate from Adventists, although some come from Christadelphians and even the fourth century heresy known as Arianism after Arius.
Both SDAs and JWs have made some of the same mistakes, as have many fundamentalist (so called Bible-based)Christians. There is however a very important difference between SDAs and JWs. The former are indeed Christians. Still love 'em after all these years, and although I am apostate, they still love me.

The WTS destructive image of God.
by greendawn inafter leaving the jws did you alter that severe, unsmiling, exacting, unforgiving ie destructive image of god that the wts was projecting very much in the spirit of the old testament?
.
or perhaps did you altogether get rid of a god image?

If he did that in Noah's day, why wont he do it now?
With respect, if you believe in the Bible and Christianity, then this sort literal of interpretation of what the Bible says is wholly inadequate. Believing in a literal worldwide flood or that armageddon as an event in the so called last days, breaks all principles of proper Bible interpretation. For those that believe, there are many levels of meaning that even the authors did not understand, and I believe James Thomas' understanding and experience of 'God' is closer to what the Bible really teaches than just about any religion, especially the funamentalists.

Hi, A very warm welcome,
Don't rush into anything, but please read many posts and investigate the JW history as well as its teachings.
No human really knows the answers to all your questions. What I have learned from studying the Bible and Watchtower publications and their history, is that JWs have the worst track record of just about all religions for understanding and interpreting scripture, but don't take my word for it. That is why they have such severe censorship - they have been exposed by their own publications. Please don't believe me, you must discover the truth yourself. We could easily prove JWs do not have the truth, but that is purely negative. I would rather you discovered the truth yourself, then you will recognise why it is good news, not what the watchtower teach. There is a wealth of proof that you can check for yourself. Many on this board can recommend some reading.
In the meantime, you may wish to read the Gospel of John and other New Testament books such as Galatians & Romans. (any version except the NWT). Do you really believe a God who "is love" and "so loved the world" is a God of vindictiveness? That is not what the Bible really reaches.

Just to add to what Kazaa said, when I was an adventist, I think the teaching was the 1000 years on earth was a temporary thing, then the faithful would go to heaven.
I read a wonderful book last month, by a top anglican theologian, who challenged most fundamental Christian beliefs, well reasoned with scholarly bible interpretation methods. He argued that the Bible really teaches any notion of paradise or hades, is a temporary state that follows death but precedes resurrection, judgement etc. Heaven comes later, and is probably for most, if not all, humans - at least eventually, saved as if escaping through fire (temporary spiritual remoteness from God...until....?) 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 says"the fire will test the quality of each man's work...if what he has built....is burned up, he will suffer loss, he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames" This suggests punishments are to purify rather than destroy. Other parables seem to support this idea of paying a price for what we do (see Matthew18:34-35 and Matthew 5:25-26)
How about a much neglected text from 1 Peter 3:18-20 The writer said of Jesus death "put to death in the body but made alive by the spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison, who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah." See also 1 Peter 4:6. These people had been judged and destroyed by God yet Jesus then preached the gospel, the good news, to them as spirits so they would repent - yes, even after death. Food for thought indeed.
I think it is better to admit no one on earth really knows. The more certain a religion claims to be about such teachings, the less true I consider them to be.

The numbers must be true as they are provided by God's faithful & discreet slave, and they have never been wrong about anything yet, have they?
