  the debate with my husband over my step-daughter's df has begun, just barely.

  he used a phase about me being "a thinking, reasoning person" and he doesn't understand why i don't "see" bible principles.

  i said that phrase is an insult to me, and then it went sour.

  Your husband may respond to the Prodigal son parable by saying that repentance was required. But the father was filled with compassion whilst his son was still a long way off. He did not wait to see how his som felt about anything. His forgiveness was not CONDITIONAL on repentance.

  No one has to be a Bible scholar to understand the simple New Testament message that unconditional love overrides any laws, rules or doctrines. This is the central teaching of the Bible, taken whole, rather in broken pieces.

  All about appearances, another thing I hate about people...

  i went to a concert with a friend of mine last night, and spent a lot of the time amused at his and his friends' behavior.

  i loved the music, live music does it for me in so many ways, the show had cracker, danko jones, and carbon leaf, all really reallly good bands, in an outdoor park.

  anyway, i'm starting to get irritated form the nudging and hey, take a look over there's, and getting asked to go "trollin" for women.

  i have a question about that, what are their views on it?

  i always thought they weren't into nice cars and nice homes, and the finer things in life.

  Unlike most Christian religions who teach (as does the Bible) that 'salvation' is spiritual state, the JWs try to sell a materialistic reward:

  A paradise earth, good homes, plenty of good food to eat etc etc. None of this spiritual materialism is Bible-based.

  It seems to me that your husband may lack courage. If the organisation made this a matter of personal conscience (which everything is according to proper scriptural teaching) then would he still shun? Would he think that's what God, who is love, requires?
  

  
  
  If not, that proves it is not about God, but about whether he can stand up and refuse to obey men in suits.
  

  
  
  Ask him to study all that Jesus Christ did and said, then ask what advice does he believe Jesus would give if he walked into your home tonight and you asked him for advice. What would Jesus say to you? Would he tell you to shun your daughter? Can your husband answer this honestly?

  He said love for God has to be greater than love for your children.

  It beggars belief that someone who claims to know the Bible, and who claims to be a Christian, can make such a statement.

  When he refers to love for God, he really means love for the Organisation - JWs cannot separate the two.

  He who does not love his daughter (ask him to look up unconditional) and claims to love God is a liar. Strong words, but not mine, based on Scriptures. Like all JWs it seems your husband is still stuck in the Old Covenant, which was fulfilled and negated by the New.

  Rayvin is exactly right about Scriptural teaching from John: He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love. ... If anyone makes the statement: 'I love God,' and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot be loving God, whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him, that the one who loves God should be loving his brother also.

  My Mom Requests They Don't Announce Her Name If She Is Sick--- On Platform

  my mother's so disillusioned by the elders, circuit overseer and society for removing her as a pioneer for going to my daughter's wedding in which she married an "unbeliever", that she has told the elders not to even announce her name if they find out she's been sick or could use some welcomed calls.

  nope!

  she just wants them to stay away from her as long as is possible.

  If this is how they treat good people, who are friends and believers, how can we expect them to 'love their enemies'?

  I just watched the STS-114 Space Shuttle fly over head

  i normally don't wake up this early in the morning just to watch the space shuttle fly by, but this was a speciall occasion.

  this was the last time the shuttle will be visible in this area before it lands.

  there is also the fact that the shuttle fleet is being grounded again -- maybe forever.

  Wow, how big did it look in the sky, was it more than a speck? I watched a small rocket launch when visiting Kennedy a couple of years ago, and on my first visit to Florida I heard the sonic boom from the return of the shuttle in the small hours of the morning.

  I would love to see a launch!

  just a little bit about myself before you answer:

  i was raised a jehovah's witness by my mother, who got "the truth" by studying with inlaws who were already members.

  my father had been disfellewshipped for joining the army a few years before i was born, and has nevered returned to the organization.

  This question doesn't apply to me directly, that is in terms of a marriage, but I am most grateful to 24K for starting it, and other contributors.

  I believe these contribute to my learning and understanding, and may eventually help me to help those I care about to escape from this false religion.
