I've decided to disassociate myself tonight
by Dustin inthe kingdom hall where i used to go has the theocratic ministry school and service meetings on tuesday.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus
by myelaine ini have found myself saying this more frequently lately.
do you want an end to this system, or do you want proof of god?
for myself, i am just broken hearted by the state of the world.

Myelaine,
I can't figure out why you should believe so strongly that Jesus' second coming is imminent. That's what the Apostles believed and every generation since. Some people of every generation have stayed awake. In Luke 21:8 Jesus warned not to follow those who say "the time is very near now". I believe that is also the key message of Matthew 24 (not to have a preconceived idea of when the Master would return). Other than just being prepared, what has any of this got to do with Christianity or the gospel? The timing issue is nothing to do with the message, ie good news. The term good news of the Christ (or similar) is the norm, over 100 times, wheras the term "good news of the kingdom" is in single figures. I think perhaps a lot of this is based on misunderstandings. Just my thoughts,

Golf, and all,
I know what you mean, & in a way I don't disagree, but perhaps I didn't explain properly what I meant. Lots of good news today...I didn't crash the car on the way to or from work, none of my loved ones died today, or yesterday or even the day before. My soon to be JW friend has left the door open slightly in that I am invited to memorial and he will remain my friend, at least for now. My wife's last chemo-therapy session tomorrow. A good book I forgot I ordered 4 months ago on internet arrived today. Perhaps good news is boring and not "newsworthy". But then if you are a believer the "good news of the Christ" might dominate our hearts and minds rather than the unscriptural obsession with Armageddon and looking for negative world events. Perhaps reading John 5:24 each morning (it speaks in the present tense) might start the day from the right perspective. Gotta admit, I sometimes suffer from depression, so I'm not saying I've got it sorted!

memorial advice please?
by jaffacake ini've been invited to a memorial on thursday.
i'm currently unsure of my beliefs (somewhere between agnostic and christian, with an interest in science).
i have been baptised twice - catholic by sprinkling, and seventh day adventist by immersion - and have partaken of the bread & wine in both religions (although come to think of it, the catholic priest always kept the wine for himself).

Thanks doubtfully yours,
I welcome your advice, but although I admit that the way my post was written was flippant, if you knew me you would know that I would not do or say anything to show disrespect to these people, especially because I will be with my lifelong friend and his wife & kids (despite the very disrespectful things said about my own beliefs). Having said that - my questions stand, and remain unanswered. Why prepare food and drink for no one, or just in case? Hoe is this respectful to Christ's teaching? I would in all seriousness appreciate an answer to my question about why all disciples of Christ should not do as he said. Do JWs not teach other teachings or commands of Jesus apply to the whole congregation?

Thanks to all. Two thoughts. 1. What a waste of food & drink. 2. Off the top of my head I can think of 2 things Jesus told his followers to do, preach the good news and eat & drink (bread & wine) in his remembrance. I can't find the bits in the Bible where he said that the preaching applied to all, but the eating & drinking in remembrance didn't. But hey, what do I know. I'll attend with interest.

Schizm, I have no argument with you, but just wonder have you ever investigated some of the issues raised by people on this board? I would be interested to see real responses to the many examples of inconsistencies and flaws in WTS doctrines and policies. Such as what did they do to deserve appointment in 1919? Just wonder if you are as curious as the rest of us?

Anyone know of Major newspapers that reported the UN debacle?
by AK - Jeff ini know about the guardian articles, and the un press release, ect.
but did any major paper carry an article that i could see the archive to?
i suspect that if such happened i would know about it already, but just in case i missed it.

I would like to see the Guardian article. Is there any proof or acceptance by WTS that this is true, and was any explanation offered?

1950's WT Demonizing of Television (1990's Internet)
by blondie in*** w50 2/15 p. 56 how to stick to it ***.
you have a limited amount of time to give to the training of your mind.
if you consume all of that time with worldly reading, radio entertainment, television, etc., and thinking on earthly things, you are wasting time that can be used to build up a protective barrier against the darts of the enemy.. .

A budding JW keeps telling me how important it is to control our thoughts. Trouble is he is not controlling his thoughts, thety are. Anyway, do Scriptures mention controlling or training out thoughts?

Sometimes when I'm depressed I feel the same. However, its all about a state of mind. JWs are conditioned to look only for the negatives, and there are plenty of them, there always have been & will be. As for what's in the news, the problems are bount to dominate eg. I drive to work everyday and usually the journey's okay. Occasionally there's a terrible traffic jam. When I get to work I mention my journey, only because i didn't go according to plan. For every tragedy in life everyday, thre are a thousand good things happen, but people don't fel the need to mention them or alert the media, that's just the way it is. Generall we've never had it so good. Someone very close to me is seriously ill, in any other time she would be far worse off and probably dead, but everyday brings further blessings and good news, although these things are never newsworthy. There are a lot of wonderful people in the world if only we look for the good aand not just the bad. Just a personal viewpoint. If you believe in the Bible, I see no reason to believe the return of Jesus is any more imminent than it was when the Watchtower Society predicted it was so 120 years ago. Remember the interpretations about signs of the times are as flawed as every other aspect of JW doctrne.
