  Did society go against Jehovah's will?

  for decades it was always stressed (especially in one of the pubs that came out in the 70's, i think the one about the thousand years) that one of the signs of the beginning of the great tribulation would be when they started taxing religion.

  in another thread we were directed to http://www.bibletopics.com/biblestudy/84a.htm about the society going to court to support jimmy swaggert.

  it seems to me that maybe the society was running ahead of jehovah by doing so, and the organization started on a downward spiral since then, ultimately slapping jehovah in the face by going to bed with the un.

  My favourite is the Romans 13:1 How can JWs explain how for many decades just about every Christian religion understood the correct interpretation of scripture, except JWs. Christians kept telling the JWs they were the only ones who had misinterpreted. In 1962 watchtower admitted JWs wrong, other Christians correct, & that JWs were correct between 1880 and 1929 until Rutherfords new light. It took until 1996 to alter policy on alternative service through lack of two thirds majority of Gov Body vote. Meanwhil JWs stayed in prison unnecessarily around the world.
  

  
  
  The elder I study with had to admit when I raised this that JWs have NEVER got any information from God. This is just one of so many absolute proofs. This can be found from researching ONLY JW material. If Dennis wants details of what WT publications for research, just pm me.

  Secret of the Living Bible revealed

  recently, a funeral was held for kenneth taylor of wheaton, illinois who died at age 88. he is the author of the living bible, published by tyndale.

  the living bible is often known for being a paraphrased version.

  those who have translational concerns do not like some of the liberties taken by the living bible.

  I'll have a look at it, sounds good. Word for word is all very good but so much meaning can be lost in translation anyway, I can see how a truer understanding can follow from this sort of approach. Thanks for suggestion.

  Going to a District Convention Undercover, suggestions?

  i'm still undesided but leaning towards going to a few dcs under the cover of a worldly person(i'm really a df'd evil apostate .

  i'm a worldy person that is in love with a jw sister who i work with, we have dated and even have been intimate(that outa perk up the ears of any hatchet man elder), and now she refuses to see me any more unless i become a jw, she encouraged me to go to this convention, but is afraid to be seen with me because she doesn't want people in her congregation to know she has a boy friend.

  i think that kind of story would grab the interest of many sisters or brother and allow me to ask some hard questions about the organization and even allow me to bring up some things i found on the internet about dates and such and not be viewed as an apostate.

  Read any good books lately?

  so, i will be down and out for awhile after a little surgery this week and i am trying to get a few books to keep myself amused and i am looking for suggestions on something you may have read recently and enjoyed.

  i prefer non-fiction, but will consider reading anything highly recommended, as long as it contains at least a spark of truth.

  well, i will recommend a book to you alla few days ago, i finished reading into the wild by jon krakauera biographical story about a young man who, after graduating college, got rid of all of his belongings and hitch-hiked across the country in search of jack london-esque adventures.

  I love reading science as the closest thing to truth humanity can get. I suppose I like the stuff that tries to explain everything, theory of everything. I have read science, cosmology, superstring, quantum theory, chaos M theory etc. In a past life I also read the Bible & religious history. But I neglected anything to do with mysticism, which as a confirmed sceptic, was similar to superstitious religion, like JWs. I looked at the Tao of Physics recently but have not got past the second chapter yet - the jury's out. I also avoided theology like the plague.

  However, I bought a book recently to get ideas to help get my friend out of the JWs. Instead I found something that combined some of my gut feelings about science, spirituality etc. It unites my thoughts on all the above. The problem is it is written by a theologian and has the Bible in its title which is a real turn off for many, which is a shame. It is not what I expected. Its not what you think! But it is a fresh perspective for me.

  humanitarian volunteer or "peacekeeper"

  i have always kind of dreamt about being a peacekeeper, or some sort of humanitarian aid worker overseas.

  of course, as a jw, this was a no no.

  instead, we were supposed to help spread fear, ignorance and guilt to the rest of humanity.

  My mother and my son

  i was disfellowshipped when i was 16, it really isn't clear because i stopped going to meetings, left home, etc.

  i was 28 before i truly stopped believing and have grown to love every day of life i've had the privilege to live.

  my mother was a missionary, my brother lives at one of the farms, one of my sisters is a special pioneer overseas and my other sister is a special pioneer in the states.. .

  Hello & welcome,

  There are people better qualified than me to amswer your specific questions about procedure. Have you considered telling your mother the truth about the organisatio. There is so much proof these days, the only way JWs can believe in their organisation is if they are prevented from seeing information.

  i've been pissed off most of the afternoon.

  my jw stepdad, who until last month i have not spoken to in 10 years, sent me a book--"what does the bible really teach?

  This book, by Keith Ward is one of the best I have read, but I don't think he would be able to handle what the Bible eeally teaches.

  back in april i told you guys that i sent out my da letter to the congregation, our family, and some of our witness friends.

  well, we got a letter in response from two elders by certified mail.

  These are just one tiny Christian religion, (twice as big as JWs) There are tens of thousands of other Christian religions, all showing more love and preaching a more Biblical gospel than the one written by Rutherford. I only picked out adventists because I used to be one 30 years ago, but there are hundreds that would put JWs to shame.

  Who else is demonstrating a love for all humanity at that level?

  Are they really that ignorant of the missionary work by millions of Christians around the world. Who do they think translated the Bible into more than 2,000 languages??? JWs don't even register on the scale of Christianity preaching the good news in all the world. But the other religions are also buildingng hospitals, orphanages, and doing charity work (for people regardless of their beliefs). Do they truly not know this???

  As for preaching the gospel, whilst other Christians are preaching the Biblical version, based on unconditional love, JWs are preaching a twentieth century version, whose author was Joseph Rutherford in the Spring of 1935. That is when they ceased to be any form of Christianity. Jesus said to preach THIS good news of the Kingdom. He did not say it would have to be updated by one man 2000 years later, especialy a man who got every prediction wrong by misunderstanding the Bible.
