Defd, We need to find out whether JWs love of truth exceeds their love of unity: (2 Thessalonians 2:10-11) 10 and with every unrighteous deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth that they might be saved. 11 So that is why God lets an operation of error go to them, that they may get to believing the lie,... Have you studied the transcripts of the Walsh case trial in Scotland, at which Fred Franz and Hayden Covington gave evidence under oath? :- Q. It was promulgated as a matter which must [have been] believed by all members of Jehovah's Witnesses that the Lord's second coming took place in 1874...? A. It was a false statement or an erroneous statement in fulfillment of a prophecy that was false or erroneous. Q. And that had to believed by the whole of Jehovah's Witnesses? A. Yes, because you must understand we must have unity... Q. Back to the point now. A false prophecy was promulgated? A. I agree to that. Q. It had to be accepted by Jehovah's Witnesses? A. That is correct. Q. If a member of Jehovah's Witnesses took the view himself that that prophecy was wrong and said so, he would be disfellowshiped? A. Yes...our purpose is to have unity. Q. Unity at all costs? A. Unity at all costs... Q. A unity based on an enforced acceptance of false prophecy? A. That is conceded to be true.

"We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God's Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination."
Confession - thanks again for your wisdom and experience, your posts will be added to my collection for discussion with beloved JWs.
Defd - you refer to the organisation as 'the truth', have you ever asked yourself why you call it that? You also seem to equate the JW organisation with Jehovah God & Christ. You appear to refer to the organisation where otherw would refer to God & Christ. I know you are sincere and always like to read your opinions. I think we can all learn from guys like Confession, who are as sincere, and also wise.
SBF - All the best with your studies. Its a pity you are not studying the 'knowledge' book. I have a copy, together with copies of many original sources the book quotes from. Why is it full of falsehoods, misquotes and deliberately misleading information? Perhaps because they think no one will check the numerous sources for accuracy!

Bad habits
by Satanus inthis thread isn't about spitting on the sidewalk or picking your nose in public.
i am talking about bad thinking habits.
ways of thinking that we learned in order to survive, bad ways of thinking that we learned because of wrong information/wrong beliefs that we had.

One of my bad habits is procrastination and not finishing stuff. In attempting to change this,

same attitude toward Evolution that I do of Religion: agnosticism. I just DON'T KNOW.
I'm only surprised because of who said this, that's meant as a compliment
From what I can tell, 'evolution' is not just one thing that is right or wrong, true or false - that's looking at it as if it were a religion. I too can be agnostic about particular theories, until there is enough evidence.
Personally I can't lump all evolution into something to accept or reject - it just doesn't seem to work like that. All science, including what is currently known as 'evolution' is in constant flux as more and more evidence leads us to adjust, replace, or reject former understandings.

Love or Hate - which?
by jaffacake ini was brought up not being allowed to use the word hate and i generally followed this pattern with my own kids.
perhaps thats why i find the jw religion repulsive,
are jws the only christian religion that actually teaches pure hatred (in the biblical sense of course)?

- And how do they reconcile the doctrine of hate with the New Covenant doctrine of love?

...heed Christ's words of caution about men who would say, the time is very near now, and not follow such men.

Good points LHG,"that doesn't mean he won't make it"
The point I make is that even for those JWs who are not materialistic in this present 'system of things' are materialistic about what they look forward to in the so called paradise earth. "Making it" is in their minds something very different to the gospel version of salvation. The JW paradise earth of the JWs is a worldly place. What they teach faithful JWs to look forward to are very materialistic things. This misses the whole point of the gospel.
