Never being a JW, I have always known I would die. I was taught as a catholic child that everyone must die. They were right then and are right now, at least about that!
I asked the JW I studied with last month if the wages of sin is death, he agreed. Then does that mean some JWs believe they are without sin?

I spanked my son occasionally when he was about 3 years old, but never since, he's now 16 (next week). I have never spanked my 11 year old daughter, and never will. I learned from my mistakes.
It made me feel better, and I told myself it was good for him too. In reality it demonstrated my lack of competence, control, and imagination.
1. Neither spanking nor stoning to death (although Hibs would claim both are biblical with her woeful misinterpretation of the teaching of scriptures) are acceptable, it is all physical violence;
2. It doesn't work as well as alternatives, especially in the longer term;

i have been talking to a few people here privately and i came to the decision that i will not post anymore here.
those few individuals i talked to were nice and the way they were treated by the "friends" was all too familiar to me and it makes me truely sad.
i also see that some on here are not so nice.

If you ain't gonna post any more, why not spend the time doing some real research into the truth. Perhaps you'll find more time to review some very wise posts from people like Confession.
Alternatively, may I suggest you read the New Testament, or at least John's gospel and Paul's letters to the Romans, Galatians and Ephesians. If you consider yourself a Christian, then Christian values are found in the Christian scriptures and there should not be a greater emphasis on the old testament.
At least post occasionally, just so we know how you are doing.

none.. there are no "original" manuscripts.. no two manuscripts agree.. the bible as we know it only came together in the form it now holds because certain men decided it should do so.. neither jesus nor his apostles or disciples carried bibles.. the apostle paul didn't carry a bible and none of his letters were in any of the scrolls considered holy scripture at the time he was preaching and forming christian theology as it is now understood to be.. largely, what the bible is today, is the result of certain men with certain agendas who had the authority to make their project happen.
they also had the power to destroy writings which did not agree with their agenda.

Whatever anyone says about the Bible, the vast (silent) majority of Christians don't believe it is verbally inspired, or dictated, written or spoken by God.
I'm not keen to write pages to challenge every claim or counter claim, but my observation is that many posters (both sides) already have a view, then look for evidence to support it. I can honestly say I am open to all the evidence and will continue to research.
From what I've learned so far, there appears a major hurdle for those who say the Bible has been altered to support catholic or any other doctrine...if that were so, then why does it not clearly support trinity and other catholic teaching. This goes for any religious doctrine. Whoever messed with it, they did a poor job as it fails to support the arguments of ANY religion. The 5 words fraudulently inserted to support the trinity, in the 16th century were later recognised by Erasmus and removed.

i'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but i've recently begun to get the willies when i'm around an active jehovah's witness.
this didn't happen until after i started posting here.. when i stop by my parents' house on a saturday morning and the witnoids show up, i get a sinking feeling in my stomach....a mix between sickness, fear, and anger.
i used to try and put on a happy face and be sociable when they came in, but now i just wave goodbye and as i'm walking out.
I was once an adventist & attended 'central hall' which looked like a typical kingdom hall. This year I made my one & only visit to a kh at the memorial.
It was so weird because I expected a warm, sincere, christian reception, because I knew JWs doctrine was mostly inherited from my old religion.
I was shocked at the top-show insincerity. There were no individuals, it was like walking into something like the stepford wives. They started giving me the sales patter. They ignored my comments/questions. When my lips stopped moving they knew they could talk again, not having heard a word I said.
The handshakes and hand on the shoulder was to make the right impression - it was truly the most anti-Christian experience I have had, and so unexpected. The evening will live with me forever. Sorry if this offends, but that's how I feel.

i have always had one "motto" that i have stuck by for as long as i can recall........to treat others as they have treated me.
on a discussion board we can and do get into things that may get heated at times, but most of us can usually agree to disagree and be done with it, dignity and feelings intact.
some folks have done some "bad" things and have dealt with them or in the process of doing so.

I have a few theories about bad attitudes on JWD and I think several reasons can apply:
I can understand the logic behind the motto of treating others how they treat us: I sometimes do that but then regret it afterwards. If someone treats me mean, it can be more effective not to treat them likewise. Easier said than done.
