I met with the local elders on Saturday, made it clear to them I flatly disagree with most of the WTS teachings and the bible, and that I accept evolution. I also made it clear in my communication to them that I have respect for the organization (on the level of appreciating the intention and hard work of the people involved) and that the congregation's spirituality is safe in my hands.
It surpirised me that they found that I did not need to be DF'd, and did not need to DA myself. I think that the operative attitude is that they have to be sure you don't *oppose* the organization. I made it clear that in the grand scheme of things, I don't find the WTBTS any better or worse than other mainstream religions. They have some good qualities, and some bad ones.
I've also found that my family and friends are very comfortable with this arrangement. They know I've exercised respect and dilligence through their channels of authority. I've even made the offer to talk with the GB about my research and conclusions. They are confident that their dreams are safe in my hands.
That said, if you threaten a lawsuit, you may be able to convince them to not take action, but you will lose most of the reasons you are hanging on to in the process. I would recommend that you take an approach of clearing up the specific issues that they are concerned about, and help them to see that their dreams are safe with you.
From an atheistic point of view, arguements have raged for centuries. The approach of debate does not work in the ecological scale of human relations. Learn from Ghandi. Conflict produces more conflict. BE the possibility you want to see in the world. I chose to be the possibility for tolerance and acceptance between religious and nonreligious groups.
Best wishes

calling all young single men
by devinsmom inwew, well my divorce is finally...final, as of today and what a long hard road it has been, and unfortunatly more hardships are to come, since we have a child together.
my ex tried to delay it just yesterday by faxing a sloppy handwritten note to the judge, to tell him he couldnt make it because he doesnt have a license,(suspended for dwi) and hasnt attended any of the hearings at all.
he owes me over $5,000 for child support (deadbeat dad).

JW's and Material Love
by JH in1 john 2:15
15 do not be loving either the world or the things in the world.
if anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world?the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one?s means of life?does not originate with the father, but originates with the world.

A fundamental inauthenticity of JW's and most western religions is the pursuit of the "Great Reward." Freedom from materialism cannot truly be present for one's who hope for material satisfaction. By material, I mean tangible, not economic. Look at the pictures in the magazines. Paradise is a thing. The big houses are things. The bounty of produce are things. Even the family and friends are not value in themselves (meditate on disfellowshipping - it's O.K. to sacrifice these for getting other things in the future) but are things. This is the biblical position that I feel drives much conflict. Look at Job's situation. He lost his things in a spiritual struggle. He was rewarded with more things.

Argument produces argument. Attacking produces defending. Truth produces Heresy.
Apostasy strengthens theocracy. Any effective conversation must encorporate an ecological paradigm to have access to transforming.
There is nothing "wrong" with religion bashing. It's something that has been around a long time. We have the results from it that we have. My question would be: Do the results inspire me?

My JW G.F.-- Told parents about wanting to marry me. UPDATE
by PAJA inwell as from my earlier posts, my jw gf told her parents she wanted to marry me last saturday.
they gave her the guilt treatment about not being a good jw and how marrage to a non jw is a sin etc.
and when i saw her monday she said she could not marry me anymore.

Sorry friend, can't be done. There is nothing in their conversation of the bible that can allow for marriage between JW and non members. They don't consider anyone else to be part of "true" christianity, and therefore marrying 'only in the lord' is applied.

I don't think any of those versions are very good, personally. But he is right that the divine name in the Greek scriptures is fallacy. That produces the question
"If the bible could be tampered with enough such that something so fundamental as the divine name were removed from it, how can we possibly trust that other changes were not made?
That, and Jesus never used the divine name or that would have been a primary accusation against him.

the love of money is the root of all evil? or is it?
by zen nudist in.
i have not see anyone mention this..... but it seems to me that money is the one unifying force the world over, as more and more countries become just different aspects of the corporate world world peace seems more likely than anything religion has ever been able to accomplish... war is bad for business over all which is something you dont hear with regard to drug trafficking.... the more an area is dominated by one drug dealer the more peaceful the neighborhood as he finds violence on his turf to interfer with his money.

Money is a game. Playing the game can get you only the results of the game. Sometimes it's a game worth playing. I prefer the game of good life for all with nobody left behind. Making a personal distinction of money as a means of exchange and a culture of consumerism based on money as an expression of value has brought me peace.

Kill the Kid, Now That's Justice! (WT 5/15/05 QFR)
by ezekiel3 inthis in it's entirety from the watchtower may 15, 2005, page 31. you might find the reasoning a bit hollow.
questions from readers.
why were david and bath-sheba not put to death for committing adultery, whereas their newborn son died?.

Thank god I'm an atheist!
And as a side note, if *divine justice* permits him to make an excetpion with David, then he could have made an exception with original sin and not held humanity responsible. Furthermore, since Jesus (according to the synoptics) was born through spirit rape of a virgin, he was not of the line of David through inheritance from his father anyway.

Another WTS Misrepresentation from the Creator Book
by AlanF inhere is a good example of the sort of complex misrepresentations that the watchtower society performs.
the 1998 creator book says the following (chap.
" not, "what happened after the origin of the universe?

Alan,
Another good one. The idea of origens - obfuscated through big-bang tomfoolery (I mean the WT version of 'dynamic energy') and then mixed haphazardly with topics such as abiogenesis....
What can you expect from a dozen poorly educated 90 year old men living in isolation in Brooklyn?
Best wishes,
Ben
