Judicial Committees....
by AllTimeJeff inthis isn't especially thought out on my part, but i wanted to put this out there.
it's more about elders, and how some who had to handle judicial committees could at least be as reasonable as possible, or total idiots.. many have been mistreated by a jc.
in fact, i bet that just by agreeing to disfellowship someone, i have contributed greatly to a few peoples emotional and spiritual misery.

I think for many elders, it is the one place in their life they have power. I believe one elder I knew used his position as PO to try to impress his "wordly" father, who had wanted him to go to college and become a doctor. (Not that this particular nut job could've done it, but I digress.) I think this desire was one of the reasons for his dictatorial approach to "shepherding."

How stupid do I think I am?
by AK - Jeff intoday, as i wait for the grout on the kitchen floor to dry, i began to ponder...... i wonder looking back just how insensitive to reality i could have been to have spent the vastness of my youth and midlife believing the obvious lies of jehovah's witnesses.
though i enjoy my freedom, i have no foundational background upon which to prop it.
though having a sense of being reborn, that rebirth has taken place late in life, and has left me feeling somewhat empty.

Not stupid at all. Perhaps disoriented. Having left the way of life I lived for my entire life, I find myself feeling that way--disoriented, I mean. Everything had been planned out--no surprises. Now, while having the freedom to think and do whatever I want, I still find the adjustment difficult at times.

Jehovah's Witnessees and the Truth vs the Lie
by AllTimeJeff inthere are several places on the internet where the hypocrisy of jehovah's witnesses is on full display.
what i am about to write is not new, but it is on my mind, so i thought i would write about it.
(disclaimer, i am an agnostic writing this, using the bible against jw lies.

A. T. Jeff: I could be wrong (often am), but I think it was more than just study groups--it was study material. I'll have to see if I can find anything. Thanks for your response.

Does anyone have the KM that said, in essence, that there is no reason to read anything other than the society's publications because they do all the research and provide all the information we need? It wasn't talking about "apostate" literature, it was talking about ANY other literature. It was a fairly recent KM, within the last year, I think. I was still going to meetings, and when we discussed this, I wanted to scream. Instead I sat quiety in amazement listening to the comments in support of this crazy statement.

Does anyone else remember the "soy" convention? It was one of the big ones in California--either San Francisco or Oakland. We ate standing at tables made of plywood. Every day it was a new soy horror. It seems like one day they shaped it like a chicken leg, but maybe I just thought it would be funny if they did!

Meetings canceled and double standard
by Iwonder17 ini live ina cold area where meetings are canceled from time to time.
i find it very funny that even the most "faithful" dubs sit in anticipation by the phone waiting for the call that the mtg has been canceled.
you would think that they would be disappointed since one of their meals is being cut off ( or one of their fingers as the old illustration goes )

I mentioned this on another thread, but I think the great joy that greets an unexpected night or day off gives a lie to the idea that all these meetings aren't a burden. Jesus' yoke is kindly and his load is light, but most JWs (I believe) are exhausted. As I also mentioned elsewhere, when we would say that we feel so much better when we go, despite the headache, fatigue, or whatever, I think what we were feeling was the relief of not having to carry the guilt of not going.
