Make America Great Again.......Maybe...........For all you on Social Security.

so there's a bill called the social security fairness act that "might" help those on social security.

the bill is something trump said he would push for once he become president.of course there is some rinos and democrats who don't want the bill because they still want to fund wars that americans have no business getting involved.

all the president has to do is signed it "if" he makes it into office.. this could go in effect as soon as next year.

Yes. I have heard some JWs collect SSI benefits and yet pioneer.👎

But, some people (not just Witnesses) mistakenly think they can get regular SS even if they never worked.

Maybe if some JW with a long life once worked in their earlier years on more than one job and pioneered later in life 🤣 - they could possibly fall into the category of somebody who qualifies under the Fairness Act and they could benefit. But, this is far fetched and this would be an extremely rare JW indeed.

All in all, the religion’s pushing people to pioneer and not work may possibly lead to those who try to get money any way they can.👎

I don’t know where you live but here in the USA you have had to pay into Social Security. Sorry to tell you, but you don’t get anything if you didn’t work unless your spouse was eligible.

First, a person has to work 10 years just to begin to be eligible. Then they have to work for decades earning a decent wage. That means full time work. Anybody who worked part time would get a minuscule amount nobody could live on. So, those pioneers you mentioned who hardly worked at all wouldn’t get much.

Regarding the Fairness Act: those who worked jobs with a (federal?) pension could not get SS for time they worked on jobs with no pension but who paid some taxes into Social Security. This new bill would enable them to get something from SS in addition to their pension.

And SSI is for somebody who can prove disability.

it would sound like they are hinting at a change in thinking.. in my opinion, any such change would be yet another slap in the face to faithful pimis along with those other recent changes.. there are so many heartfelt responses on that thread and a lot of justified anger.. don’t know what to say except that i’m so glad i never listened to the religion all those years ago.

Thanks, but in my case I came INTO the JW religion (in my 20s) already with the job!

But those older busybody Witnesses with cushy lives wasted no time trying to urge me to quit and take up clearing & pioneering as this was the ‘acceptable’ thing to do - for women anyway.. I refused..I just couldn’t bring myself to do this.. So, I was marginalized (not considered spiritual 🙄) and not invited to those special dinners and gatherings. I was barred from certain cliques. But, it was worth every penny in my later years that I paid no attention to them.

Maybe it was my Catholic non-JW upbringing and remembering dad’s wisdom that saved me from making a huge mistake. Who knows?

Those are horrible cringeworthy stories you relate about Witnesses who never planned for retirement.

It is scary enough when people DO plan for retirement and have their Medicare/insurance, etc. and get sick.. How much worse is it when somebody has nothing? And doing a dangerous job on ladders at an advanced age is suicidal.😮 It’s third-world living in a first world country. All unnecessary and preventable.

Too bad enough people in the world don’t know this about the Jehovah’s Witnesses. But, yet the religion will go along on its merry way selling their buildings, changing and morphing into an online religion.. Whatever gullible die-hards are left who gave up their lives for this sham will be left high and dry.. All that’s left will be their laptop and a computer connection. Their wonderful religion will have disappeared like the guy in the ‘Wizard of Oz’ waving Bye! in the hot air balloon!

Words can’t describe how I feel that I once blundered into this religion. I am SO grateful that I worked and never followed the crowd there and that I got the hell out.👍🏻

when you were in, how did you react when someone wished you a merry christmas?

was there ever a wt article about it?

what there ever car group around-the-water-cooler talk about that sort of experience and how to deal with it*?.

Yes, in the end it was better what you did to just say Thanks and not bother with any boring explanation about paganism (when other things are pagan).

Otherwise, Witnesses can end up sounding like “Bah, Humbug” and Mr. Scrooge or worse - have people feeling sorry for you and getting you a gift because they think you’re pathetic and that’s how I must’ve appeared.

It’s true that the world doesn’t even care to understand why a silly group doesn’t want to celebrate Christmas. They are too busy getting together with friends/family relationships which are IMPORTANT things... I came to understand that because I was raised Catholic so Christmas was natural to me - then I experienced the needless isolation in the Witness religion. Never again..

When I finally got the hell out of the Witness religion - Christmas became natural once again!

Why do most Ex jW W‘s seem to be liberal?

i’m just curious about this dynamic i don’t care personally one way or the other but i do have friends who have chosen to be conservatives and they get totally destroyed on social media pages for their choice.

it’s almost like a lot of ex jw w become as toxic and his judgmental as jehovah’s witnesses themselves what’s up with that?

i also know conservative ex jw’s that can do the same so again i’m not leaning one way or the other i’m just noticing factual observations.

I believe the article shows the religion wants to have it both ways. ‘Preach and don’t prepare for retirement/live in poverty’ and/or ‘Prepare for your Retirement but keep quiet about it’.. It’s called talking out of both sides of your mouth.

But, the fact is millions were adversely affected by following bum advice not to have careers or save for Retirement. There’s no getting around this.

I wonder if some people on the forum (either looking to stay in the religion or looking to go back) actually realize that there is No forgiveness for the religion (at least in my book).. Millions have been misled over the last century or so for planning their lives over what ended up being failed prophecies and suffering needlessly over faulty teachings based on men’s opinions!

All this makes me very Glad now that I was that ‘low hour publisher’ JW years ago who never followed their teachings.

I am also disturbed by what I read about censorship in the UK!!! Too bad.

As far as what goes on in communist countries: yes, they hate journalists and anybody who shines a spotlight on what is wrong with their regime! ..Naturally any mass murders would be quickly covered up…Got to put on a false face to the public and to the world! (I wonder who this sounds like?)

What is there to say except this information is too late for the multitudes of JWs (both in and out) who swallowed the ‘no career’ mantra hook line and sinker and criticized people like me who paid no attention.

I’m just sorry for all the many thousands (maybe millions) of ex-Witnesses all over who reached retirement age totally unprepared and are struggling now! 👎
