The religion was not mentioned by name, but yet as a whole contains all of these undesirable traits of being toxic! A coincidence? ☺️
i was doing some heavy duty binge watching on youtube.. there are lots of helpful topics including ‘how to declutter your home’, ‘things you shouldn’t tell people’ and several videos on ‘types of people you shouldn’t have in your life as well as types of behavior you shouldn’t tolerate’ (especially after a certain age).. what i got out of it (most i already knew but was nice to see it mentioned):.. first, you should live life authentically, especially at an older age.
you should be free of other people’s opinions, judgments and expectations of you.
you should be free of this as you have accumulated enough wisdom in life to know what serves you and that other people’s opinions do not define you; you should not be guilt tripped into doing favors or being exploited (financially or time wise) by anybody manipulative or irresponsible, etc… walking away is not ‘selfishness’ but ‘self care’.. it was mentioned in all of them to remove people from your life who are critical and fall into these negative categories whether they be family or other.. (the name of jehovah’s witnesses was nowhere mentioned - but i was struck by the fact that all these negative things appear in spades in the jw religion (and probably in some other religions as well).. watching all of this just reinforced what i knew for many years: ..the best thing i did was to ‘fade’ from the religion and get out of that environment!.

not sure who wrote this list a while back but i think it is worth a repeat....to be added to or subtracted from or modified...whatever.. what's wrong with the watchtower.
"overlapping generations" - this teaching makes no sense.
the word used by jesus is in the singular, not plural form.. .
VANDERHOVEN7:
That is a very sad story from this anonymous Witness.. Unfortunately, this is the reality of too many born-ins in the Jehovah’s Witnesses. And then in the end the religion changed its teachings and pulled the rug out from under everybody. I took particular note of: “..questioning the promises and intentions of those who claim to speak for the divine”. Indeed.
I am so grateful that this was not my upbringing.. I came into the JWs years ago as a young working adult.. I wasn’t accepted and that’s just as well because it made it very easy for me to eventually ‘Fade’ when I saw through it all.
we have a 25 year guy in our hall who is also a pioneer (which means he lives off his parents money), who likes to spend a lot of time with a 16 year old girl in the hall.
it is usually in a group setting but he seems to gravitate toward her.
he even has her auxilary pioneering , which is something i don't think any student trying to make the grades needs.
RILEY:
It would seem that those Mormons are more realistic. NO stranger should be around anybody’s minor children. Case closed.
The JWs are positively backwards about this topic. And is it because they are ‘oblivious’? Who knows? Also, what about when a JW guy is interested in a sister with children from a previous marriage - and one of them is an attractive young girl? And they sometimes all hang around together…(Of course, this happens in the non-Witness world as well).
Well, I don’t need to go into details of what I observed in my time as a JW decades ago, but any woman in the JWs (or anywhere else for that matter) with a young daughter(s) who has a man show an interest in her - can never be too sure about her man!! Sorry to have to say this.

BLONDIE:
Boy, do I remember this song!
I was a teenager and blissfully unaware that some years down the line I would get involved with the Witnesses .. I would have never believed it.
Here we are all these years later in the year 2025. I am retired and long out of the JW religion. The die-hards still there have spent their whole lives making sacrifices and waiting for the End so they can start living their ‘real’ life.🙄
the latest report is now available for download on our favourite website!.

HEREIAM60:
I know just what you mean about people who identify themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses who have no current connection to a congregation.
I know several people who fall into this category. They are children of deceased JWs and are now my age category or a few years younger.. When I was ‘in’ in the early years of being a JW, these people weren’t really active. They attended once in a while to please their parent. They did their own thing, had careers and maybe got married. But, they had absolutely no idea what somebody like me went through being ‘active’ in the religion and being criticized over a full time job.. They were absent and did not experience any of this.
How ironic that I am out many years ‘Faded’ and retired.. Meanwhile, these people (who were never really active in the religion in the first place) identify themselves as JWs even though they have no idea what the religion is really all about then or now! 🤷🏻♀️
as we live in the last hour of 2024, i want to wish all of you a happy new year.
all of us have come a long way.
we have faced the dragon and spit in his face.
HAPPY DAD & BETH SARIM:
Happy New Year 2025 to you and everybody else on the forum!

it would sound like they are hinting at a change in thinking.. in my opinion, any such change would be yet another slap in the face to faithful pimis along with those other recent changes.. there are so many heartfelt responses on that thread and a lot of justified anger.. don’t know what to say except that i’m so glad i never listened to the religion all those years ago.
JAZZBO:
That part about you knowing several Circuit Overseers that had good investment accounts - would make some of these unprepared older JWs positively ill.. You really can’t deny the utter hypocrisy of it.
I always remembered the COs when they visited. They made derogatory remarks about people who ‘didn’t get enough hours in’. That was me because I worked full time. You therefore would never catch me offering any hospitality to these idiots. Nope. They could starve or go order fast food and eat their fries in the parking lot.
While it is technically ‘true’ that nobody put a gun to anybody’s head forcing them not to prepare for retirement - the JWs created a culture where the ‘shun gun’ was used.. This tactic didn’t work on me - but I am an unusual case.. I wasn’t raised a JW and came into the religion a young adult already with the job.. I just ignored these people and kept on working.
Other young people in the hall (fearing loss of titles 🤣, being ostracized like me, getting no invitations to special dinners/gatherings) .may have caved in to this peer pressure and therefore are suffering this day because Armageddon didn’t come to save them... All I can say is I am grateful today I never fell for this giant con. I ended up ‘Fading’ after the 1995 thing.

DAGNEY:
Good for you and congratulations on your retirement.
Your mom gets a thumbs up for not pushing pioneering. Witnesses who thought intelligently like this were few and far between. I am also in total agreement that no religion (or anybody else for that matter) has any business in anybody’s personal money matters. As far as some JWs who bought houses years ago: good for them. Meddlesome people in the congregations stuck their noses where it didn’t belong with their worthless opinions.
Isn’t this all so ridiculous and unnecessary?? I do believe the people there are an envious lot. I’m so Glad I worked and retired. And I’m sorry about people who listened to these meddlesome ignoramuses or were too afraid of the condemnation I got - OR wanted to be accepted and be invited to special gatherings.👎
What a price they paid!.. So, I ask: what good would being popular years ago in a silly religion do for somebody today if they hardly worked??? .. Is that past popularity paying the bills? Nope. So, for me it was worth every nickel to be rejected by the congregation and all the nobodies there - many of whom have passed away and not even around to help anybody they misled!
…Then in the end the religion ends up pulling the rug out from under all these people by changing its teachings. How sad for anybody who listened.👎

LIAM:
You are extremely lucky that you inherited a vast amount of money at a young age.. Don’t be hard on those who wisely advocate to save money. Whatever somebody manages to save during their working years is better than the nothing they would have if they pissed it all away.
EXBETHELITENOWPIMA:
Any older JW who is ‘awake’ has to be outraged to hear this ‘new light’. I am out of the religion over two decades and did the ‘right’ thing and I am still outraged. I got the same feeling as last year after their annual meeting when I learned they said ‘it was no longer necessary’ to count hours and submit a time slip!.. I was judged over both these things: having a full-time job and getting low hours in service.
Of course, somebody who was harmed by their policy and didn’t work and suffering today would obviously be more angry than I would be. My indignation is over how I was treated back then... There are some older judgmental Witnesses long gone who would have deserved to be told off . I would have liked to rub this in their faces like shit, but I will have to content myself with the fact that I am Glad I never listened to them!
This situation is just one of the reasons why the religion deserves to be exposed to the world!
