was round visiting my jw mother and bro (who stays with my folks when he's in the area working) the other night.
the conversation swung round to a documentary they'd been watching on video earlier that evening, supposedly putting forward all sorts of archaeological evidence for the exodus, including coral-encrusted remains of chariots at the bottom of the red sea, no less.
Here's one claim about Ron Wyatt, who died in 1999:"One of his more recent excavations led him to find the 'Ark of the Covenant' which is linked to actual site of the Crucifixion of Jesus. This included finding dried blood which when tested, was like no other blood ever found before on this earth. "LOL
In case anyone's interested, the thing he said was so peculiar about the blood is that the cells were still alive, and they had only 24 chromosomes. 23 from the mother, and one Y chromosome.

This is a weird one - cheerful whistling. I have absolutely nothing against anyone being happy, and yet whenever I hear whistling I suddenly find myself wishing we could bring back public stonings.
i have noticed from reading over this site and from having contact with former witnesses in my personal life, that a lot of time is consumed in the beginning of your exit from the witnesses, with finding further reasons to hate or dislike the jehovah's witnesses.
with this i was wondering, is this done to give yourself more reason not to return or is it an expression of your freedom to find out what you want without borders.
from a pure psychological stand-point, i am prone to wonder if it is a means of feeding an inner anger to bring one a faults sense of security, when they are challenged from within to decide if what they are really dealing with is correct thinking or a path that is truly wrong.

If your information filters are removed, then of course you are going to start finding negative things that you didn't see before. How can you not?
What I wonder though, is it sound in mind to replace these doubts with something that makes us angry.
You don't necessarily have to react with anger and hatred. You might just feel relieved that you don't have to be afraid anymore. However unrelated those issues may be to your original doubts, they can serve as reminders that the organization is just like any other, and that their opinions are to be feared the same as any other.

john shelby spong is a retired bishop who is trying to expose what religion has done to scripture by how they interpret them.
in chapter 25 on the bible and certainty he writes " my contention, which i will seek to defend in this section of the book, is that the moment any religious tradition claims certaintly, it turns demonic.
I've not read that particular book, but I have read a few other books of his in which he raises those same issues. "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism" is a good read. He explains that Western readers make a huge mistake in trying to understand the Bible literally, when much of it it was intended to be understood in terms of the midrashic style in which was written. He likens the Bible to treasure in an earthen vessel. The treasure, the underlying message, is sacred; whereas the vessel, the stories which encapsulate the message, are not and were never meant to be. Personally, I don't really care whether Spong is right about this or not - the point is, he presents a different way of thinking about it, and that's always a good thing.
