I'm thinking maybe one reason for gathering scientific evidence of the evils of peanut butter would be to demonstrate how far ahead of their time the holy writings really were. When the prophet Thrashbarg decreed to the Sandwich Maker that peanut butter shall no longer be consumed, he could not possibly have known what science has only recently confirmed nearly four and a half thousand years later. Thus we can see that the holy writings are not of mere men, but inspired by the Lord Bob in his ineffable wisdom. Do we dare to question Bob's channel of communication today, presuming that we know better?

Thou Shalt Not Consume Peanut Butter Before Thy God!
by Swan inhere's what i don't get about some religions.
maybe someone could explain it to me.
okay, hypothetically, let's say you belong to a religion where one of the "rules" is that you shouldn't eat peanut butter.

Watchtower Words: The Governing Body condemns itself publicly (a pattern)
by Terry in*** watchtower 1956 feb 1 pp.88-89 cautious as serpents among wolves ***
45 we dare not lie against god's word, adding to it or taking away from it, reading into it what it does not say and denying, passing over or explaining away what it does truthfully say.

You've brought up so many good points (as usual). Just a few comments:
"A new view of truth never can contradict a former truth."
When I show this WT quote to JWs, they point at the date it was written. So in the ultimate irony, a quote stating that new truths cannot contradict former truths is itself rejected as a superseded former truth.
"This might be compared to what is known in navigational circles as "tacking." By maneuvering the sails the sailors can cause a ship to go from right to left, back and forth..." ... "...in order that we should no longer be babes, tossed about as by waves and carried hither and thither by every wind of teaching by means of the trickery of men..."
Hahahaha...! Love it!
We should have confidence in the channel God is using.
That's right. If unsure about which one that is, just listen to God's channel in order to find out. You'll know you have the right one because God will be speaking through them. And you'll know for sure it's God's word because it's coming through the channel He is using.
(Does this remind anyone else of the "What Time is it, Eccles?" sketch from the Goon Show, or is it just me?)

Ahhhhhhhhh That felt good - great
by Lady Lee ini am a firm believer that information is power.
throughout my entire childhood and early adulthood either my parents, foster parent, and the wts did a great job of controlling the information i had.
by controlling the information, they controlled me.

So to get rid of them and protect the innocent ......
I manually shredded them.
Yup tore those little devils up by hand.
I did exactly the same thing. I brought all my books together into a pile one night, sat down on the floor, and made confetti out of them. It was a great feeling of freedom, I highly recommend it.

Brutality of the bird kingdom - cest la vie.
by Crumpet ini was busy typing away here in my conservatory when my next door neighbours leaned over the fence calling my name.
they asked if i could see a budgie in my garden, so i tiptoed barefoot up the lawn and there pecking away at the grass and fallen apples was a pudgey budgie grey and white.
i saw the same one a month ago fly over our garden which was odd.

Speaking of budgies and bird brutality, I've heard somewhere that the reason wild budgerigars are always green is because when a colour mutation occurs in an individual bird, the rest of the flock will attack and kill it before it gets a chance to breed.

Away from the "Core" - Subversion at the Convention
by ezekiel3 inlast year i thought i would share my diligent notes and show what it was like at the core of the organization.. not this year.
for a learning experience, i decided to stray from the active ones and see what everyone else was doing during this convention.
perhaps this would be special since the whole theme of the dc was "godly obedience".

Had the idea to prank-call other rooms in the hotel at 9:00PM to ask "This is Brooklyn. Do you still have your badge on?!"
"Hello, this is Brooklyn. According to the RFID transponder in your badge, you seem to have been located in an unauthorized seating area during this afternoon's session..."

all immoral.

And let's not forget "insincere". All worldly people are well aware that the Witnesses have the truth, they just make up objections and pretend to believe all sorts of other nonsense as an excuse for not doing any field service.

Bringing reproach on Jehovah's name? My step-daughter to be DF'd
by wordlywife inwhy is it considered that a person's bad/poor actions bring reproach upon god?
i don't understand this one bit when i hear my husband talk about it.
my stepdaughter is most likely going to be df'd soon (for being a typical teeneager as far as my worldly views).

I'd like to know how much actual reproach of God's name must be observed by the elders before they can declare someone to have brought reproach upon God's name.

by Englishman inwe've just returned from the wedding of our first born son, simon, to tania.
it was great, i shall post some pics in a few days.

Round these parts, if you say "good luck" you get a lecture on how you have just committed idolatry by invoking the god of Good Luck mentioned in Isaiah 65:11

Is There Any Evidence To Support The WTBTS's Proclamation?
by Honesty inthe wtbts has consistently claimed that early christians did not serve in the military.
where is their evidence to support this when there are many accounts disproving their proclamation?.
fox's book of martyrs disputes the wt claims as does evidence of the roman 12th legion known as the 'thundering legion'.. .

It's probably something along the lines of "If they stayed in the military, that's evidence that they weren't true Christians after all, thank you for proving our point."
Note also that there is no scriptural reference to Cornelius ever having been assigned microphone duty - an obvious indication that he had incurred the dispproval of the Almighty.

Convention Drama, an example of Anachronistic Propaganda
by VM44 inthe recent 2005 "godly obedience" convention drama is an example of an anachronism!
and of propaganda!.
so why is the dram an example of anachronistic propaganda?.

Here downunder, the dramas are usually received with smirks and grimaces by the 'audience' because of the American accents which sound so out of place .
And then just when you're getting used to it, the drama ends and the Australian speaker starts up again.
Just once I'd like to see them do the whole drama with Scottish accents or something, just to show the American audiences what it's like for everyone else.
