You cannot "prove" that there is a God, just like you cannot "prove that there isn't one.
There is simply not enough evidence to prove either case. You can however, scientifically prove that the bibles rendition of "creation" is a nice fairy tale. There were tribes of people living all over the globe by the time that Adam and Eve were said to have been the "first" humans. That is a fact!

i love her very much but all the abuse i have taken over the pass year from her elders, uncles, grandfather...etc has really taken it's toll on me.

I'm going to be straight up with you; for you two to work out, she has to make drastic changes. She still dreams of having the "perfect" witness wedding, yet she's dating an unbeliever. Her family and community at the hall is so much a part of her life that she lets them interfer, yet she's rebelling by being with you.
She has to make up her mind what kind of life she wants.
And more importantly, you have to pick the girl that "fits" the kind of life you want. Just because you love someone, doesn't mean you'll love your life with them.

i am an elder.. after the meeting all the elders were called to the back room.
i thought this was an impromptu elders' meeting.
That takes some nerve! Tell them that they are your children that you are very proud of and they are not acting like Jesus if they don't love the little children and their energy. Shame on them!
As I side note- I remember going to a convention where the District Overseer actually stopped his talk and told the woman to go take the child back to the bathroom. I thought that was so rude and ignorant.
However, I went to a Catholic church recently, a child started to yell and the priest just said, "Isn't it wonderful that the children come to church to sing to the lord." Everyone laughed afterwards and it made me feel warm towards the priest.

i am a senior in high school.
i've had a very rough past and alot of people have wronged me in many ways.
If things ever go bad between you and her, would you still be ok with becoming a Jehovah's Witness and possibly even raising kids in the religion? Think about it good and hard. Sometimes just because you love someone, doesn't mean you'll love your life with them.

for everyone who says that a liberal arts degree doesn't prepare you for anything, you'll find someone else who claims that it prepares you for everything.
well, both, to some extent.the one thing that's pretty much certain is that right out of the gate, a liberal arts grad will tend to pull a smaller starting salary than his or her friends who majored in business or a technical field.
I'm still "up in the air" about what degree I should choose. I've thought about art, architecture, psychology, social work, and the list goes on, but I still haven't been able to decide. It's hard to pick because what I would love to do and what I can make money at are two different things. I've tried to live without money and it just doesn't suit me. I want to be comfortable but I also want to enjoy my life. So it's a hard decision. Right now, I'm just taking my basics and hopefully along the way I'll figure it out. Thanks for the post.
the atheists have done a pretty good job on me, i am just about to cast my lot in with them after all the reading and debating on the issue.
they just seem to have all the answers and appear to hold the intellectual high ground, they do a good job of making one feel like a complete idiot for believing in a god, much less the christian version.
so now that i am almost free of this delusional, magical thinking, religious burden of foolishly believing in a god and that there is anymore to life than what is right here how do i feel?
I used to feel this way for quite awhile. Then I came to the conclusion that the purpose in life is life itself. To enjoy life to the best of my ability and not hurt anyone else in the process. (I try) I know scientifically and logically that the idea of god is man made. But something in me needs more than just what a scientist can prove to be accurate. As humans I feel we need magic, the hypothetical kissing of the "boo-boo" to make it all better. So if I want to pray to the air and believe that by doing so takes all of my problems away, then I'm going to do it. Do whatever works for you, regardless if scientist can prove it or not.

Thanks for your reply! It was a long read and if it wasn't for homework I probably wouldn't of had the dedication to write it. Also, my husband has a 9-5 job doing his art but it's all what the company needs drawn at the time. When he comes home that's when he works on his "real" art. About two years ago he stayed at home full-time and we just lived off of his art, it was good pay for awhile and then when things started to dwindle this company called him. Things are much better now and it's given me time to reflect, which is something you can't do when you're in the thick of it.

do you think the wt has become more lenient or stricter over the year?.
i am 21 and i remember just 4 years ago going to college was looked at as something negative.
girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.
Back in the 70's and 80's college was a no-no.
But since the "new world" isn't here yet, I guess they figured that they better start encouraging college because:
1. Witnessses seem to take Welfare over college and that doesn't look good on their organization.
2. Donations dwindling
3. Do you really want to live in a Paradise with uneducated people? Scary to say the least.
Who cares if you haven't decided on a major yet. It will come to you.
I'm 30 years old and finally a freshmen in college. YAH! Take all your basic classes first and also take elective classes. Your major will become apparent in no time at all. Do what you love because your the one going to spend 8 or more hours a day for the rest of your life at a job, so it better be something you like not what your mom likes.

some background: i disassociated a year ago and explained why i was leaving to my mom, who agreed with me and told me that she's been thinking of leaving the dubs for nearly ten years.

R- 1211 Self- indulgence is not the only reason some leave. Most self- indulgence acts are overlooked if you are the right person, namely, an elders son or daughter.
I remember an elder was sleeping with a pioneer sister and the whole congregation knew about it because they were real "touchy- feely" to each other in field service. They were just given a " talking to" and he didn't give as many talks as he used to, but things were still the same as far as everyone else knew.
I, on the other hand, was disfellowshipped for spending the night at a worldly boys house. It was completely innocent and nothing at all sexually happened and only my mom knew about it. I was disfellowshipped four days later, I think maybe it had more to do with the sisters complaining to the elders that all the men were staring at me and not them, so they were looking for any excuse to get me out of there. I can't tell you all the sisters who smiled at me after I was disfellowshipped, the funny thing was I wouldn't be caught dead with any of their men and I dressed more modest then they did! It's a social club- the sooner you figure that out, the better!
