The Morality of Teenage Baptism
by metatron inif the watchtower claims it only does what the bible says.
and does not "go beyond the things that are written", then by.
what authority does it encourage the baptism of teenagers?.

I was "dunked" at 14. Did it because I thought that for a short time, maybe someone would look at me in a positive light and stop viewing me as bad news and an evil temptress. Didn't work. By the way, after my teenaged stepchild was baptized this summer (because some elders kid had done it), I tried to make the point that Jesus was 30 to my mother as an argument against teenage/child baptism . It gets you nowhere. Her response was that Jesus was fulfilling prophesy, so if not for that he likely would have been baptized at a much younger age. Ugg! I pretty much ended the conversation there so that I wouldn't say anything she'd regret hearing. I think it is utterly ridiculous to expect a child or teenager to make a life long commitment!

Hard to celebrate holidays after leaving the Org.?
by santacruzchick infor those of you who grew up in 'the troof', after leaving, did you find it hard or uncomfortable in any way to celebrate holidays and bithdays since you had no ties to them whatsover?
if so, how did you deal with it?

I was raised a witness, elder father and pioneer mother. My parents are the only witnesses in a very large family. I have been out 6 years. I always wanted to do the holiday thing- It never felt right to me not to spend those days with family because to me, family is what the holidays are all about. My parents were studying when I turned 1, but they do have pictures of my token birthday cupcake and the one christmas that they celebrated with me. I grew up looking at those pictures and wanting to celebrate the holidays. I still feel weird about Halloween and do not care to much for it but I enjoyed passing out candy instead of turning off all the llights in the house and pretending I wasn't home like we had to growing up, and my son has a blast. I am getting so much joy out of watching him grow up getting to celebrate the holidays and not have to feel different from the rest of the kids. It did feel weird at first because I had no idea how it all worked, or what the etiquette was, but I was fortunate to have extended non-witness family that welcomed me into the family celebrations and made me feel like it was the most natural thing. It brings be joy to send out christmas & birthday cards. I get gifts when I can for others, but feel no obligation to do so. My husband and I had our first tree last year. All that said, take it at your own pace and do what is right for you. Have fun and enjoy the freedom to decide for yourself what YOU want to do without having to worry about what anyone else will think.

I am one of the ones who chose to walk away quietly. The method you choose has to be your decision. Some people need to DA for their own emotional well being and peace of mind, others are fine with the walk out or fade away method. Let them do whatever they choose to do when they see your christmas tree in the front window.
Go out and begin living your life to the fullest. Enjoy watching your children blossom now that they do not have to be "different" from other kids at school! Get that Christmas tree blazing away if that is what your family wants to do. It will certainly send the message loud and clear to anyone that might be wondering why you aren't at meetings anymore. Once they see that, you're probably toast as far as being DF'd but you do not have to participate in any way in their process. They will do whatever they choose with or without your presence at their little committee meeting, but you do not have to tell them ANYTHING, meet with them or answer any questions if you do not choose to. You already know what the outcome will likely be, so I would say just do what feels right for your family and to hell with whatever they may think of it.

I need advice please......................
by Jesika insince this will be my first time going to las vegas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am going on oct 16-18. we are staying at the hotel luxor--the one with the sqhinx in the frount.
so, tell me in the short time we are there (this my boyfriend's first time in vegas too) what can we absolutly not miss??????????

Luxor is a neat hotel. I think Blue Man Group plays there, and they are a lot of fun to watch.
We got married in Vegas last year, ( no Elvis was not in attendance) and I HIGHLY recommend Top of The World Restaurant at the Statosphere if you are interested in a romantic dinner ( it is pricey, but if you like 5 star cuisine and an AWESOME view, it's the best.) It is a revolving restaurant, which means you get to see the entire city while you eat. Mandolay Bay is GORGEOUS, and you will be right next door to it. Mandalay has the BEST Sunday Brunch Buffet (pricey at $21, but worth it!) Gee, you might be getting the idea that I love food here, but the shows are great too.
Mystere, the Cirque du Soleil Show at Treasure Island was fantastic, tickets were around $70 I believe. Most of the shows are expensive, but the talent is amazing and it is well worth the expense to go to one if you can.
All the big hotels offer so much to see! There is no way to see them all in a few days. There is an awesome guide that you can pick up in the hotels that will tell you just about anything you could possibly want to know as far as where shows are, what else is going on in the city, and it breaks down restaurants by cuisine and has price codes on all of them.(They might have it already in the rooms)
I don't know about the best gambling, being that I tend to stick to nickel slots!
Have a great time! Vegas is awesome!

Not that I had a doubt that it was a destructive cult,, but taking it just for grins, the answer is yes to EVERY question on that quiz. I wish I could get my parents to take it! Not that I'm holding my breath or anything on that one!

Wouldn't that just make for a great environment to live in! "Feel free to commit heinous actsbecause if someone doesn't catch you or report you right away you're home free!" Imagine the possibilities! A world of no consequences for your actions! In my opinion, only someone with something BIG to hide in their own past could ever advocate no consequences for past actions! This idiot is apparently completely without compassion or a conscience! Sounds like just the kind of non-thinking, judgemental, narrow-minded idiot that has real potential to "advance" to greater priviledges in whatever congregation is "graced" with his presence! What a complete and total MORON!!!!! Reminds me again how lucky I was to get out!

by curiouschristy ini have been outta the society for over 10 years, but i somehow feel like i'm doing something wrong.

The power of guilt is incredible. We are taught to feel guilt and shame for anything that goes against what we were told to believe, and let's not forget the fear. That doesn't just disappear, even when we know that we made the right decision by leaving the whole mess behind. Mind control is a very powerful and effective weapon and it has been perfected by the witnesses. What better way to control people than with their own mind? It's the one thing that cannot be turned off, tuned out or ignored and it is always with us. The process and time needed for that recovery is different for everyone. Hang in there! You are not alone!

Yes... Southern CA is awesome... sun, sand, sushi, theater, plenty to do... can't ask more than that! Definitely wouldn't go back to snow and mud season for anything!
