When I got involved with the cult in 1983 I didn't have a computer or internet access to do research. The public library didn't have any critical information about the JWs. There were a few people who tried to talk me out of joining the cult, but they knew very little about it themselves. Their criticisms were mostly based on inaccurate information, and only served to reinforce the "persecution complex" I was developing. Even encyclopedias I checked had inaccuracies about the JWs. Still, something in my gut that I couldn't explain was telling me I was making a mistake. I wish I listened to my gut.

I couldn't of said it better. (same year also) For those of us who joined as adults, the reason's for joining are varied but I think one thing most of us were looking for was a better way of life. We did eventually leave due to the research we did, or should I say when the elder's found out we were doing research we were threaten by being DF'ed. That closed the deal for me, and have never been back, and have no desire to. Acadian

why are departing jw's bitter?

i say the bitterness is directly proportional to the amount of emotional committment we made to their teachings.

if we accepted them wholeheartedly, the bitterness was immense as we discovered the lies and coverups, while getting the blame on the missed date predictions, and seeing the ever-increasing legalistic structure of the society, not to even mention the shunning by loved ones who still remain.

Nope, I don't see the benifit in being angry. I took the ~~10%~~ 1% that was good and tossed the rest in the garbage, and continued on the path of life.

Born again, but not Christian, or any religion, faith, or belief that you know. I do believe in Karma...What you sow, is what you reap. What goes around, comes around. I only know what I experence to be true... not what ANY book says, not that there isn't truth scattered in some books. Until you put truth into practice, you truly will never know it, maybe know of it, but not know it. And for those who believe you can't be born again and believe in karma, you don't overstand what karma and being born again is all about. Even Jesus taught karma, "what you sow is what you reap". We all have our own realities, some are group realities, other's are individual, some combine with other's to form mixed realities. The question is, whose reality is real or right? Everybody has an opinion I'm sure, and each of us are entitled to one. That's not for me to decide for anyone but me. you'll figure it out in time, if it's not too late. Part of my reality involves harming no one, living in harmony with my surroundings, helping those in need where I can. and to bring peace of mind where there is none. That's just a glimps of my beliefs. Peace

What is the Kingdom and who is in it?

Hi Yaday, Here's are some scriptures to consider: The Kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). It is God's government ruling your heart and mind. Inside you is a law that governs your actions. Either you are governed by Satan/the State or you are governed by Christ. Who has laid claim on you here and now? Who owns you? Whom do you fear? Whom do you obey? If you haven't found the Kingdom of God here and now, you will never find it in the hereafter. Throughout the gospels, there are many instances of Jesus speaking in parables to describe the nature and character of His Kingdom. Eventually Jesus quits talking in parables and speaks plainly. At the Last Supper just prior to His crucifixion, Jesus speaks candidly. He is talking to a particular group of people - the ones who have stood with Him during His temptations. Jesus is about to die. He is handing over His Kingdom to the disciples. His words to the apostles form His Last Will and Testament. "And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Lk 22 verses 29-30). Earlier, Jesus had given the keys of the Kingdom to Peter (Matthew 16:19) and now He is formally handing over the Kingdom itself to the apostles. Now they have both the keys and the "house." It seems clear when these passages are read that Jesus has delegated His Father's Kingdom to His faithful apostles. But then along come the theologians that want to cut up and dissect the plain word of God. The theologians argue, "Jesus wasn't making that claim. The Kingdom is still coming - sometime in the future." Let's go back a little in Luke. At Chapter 22, verse 14, Jesus is sitting down at the Last Supper with the twelve apostles and He is saying unto them, "With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer. For I say unto you, I will not anymore eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come" (verses 14-18). Here Jesus states that the Kingdom is coming and that certain events will take place when the Kingdom has arrived. Jesus says he will not eat or drink anymore until the Kingdom comes. Now let's search the scriptures to see if Jesus ever does eat or drink again with the apostles. Go to Acts, Chapter 10, verses 39-41. We are going to be looking at a "flashback." In these verses the apostles are talking about an earlier event, after Jesus rose from the dead, but before He ascended into the clouds. Peter says:

"And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead."

Here we see Jesus' prediction at the Last Supper being fulfilled. Jesus said that the kingdom will come when He eats and drinks again with His apostles (Luke 22:16,18). Now at Acts Chapter 10, the apostles are bearing witness that they did eat and drink with Jesus.

From these events, it is clear that Jesus conferred the Kingdom upon the apostles and that they bore witness that the Kingdom truly arrived.

Let's look again at what Jesus was actually doing. The first event is Jesus telling the apostles at the Last Supper, "The Kingdom is right around the corner. I'm going to go die, and after I am raised up, the Kingdom will be fulfilled. Today I'm eating this Last Supper with you. When I eat and drink with you again, the Kingdom will be fulfilled" (Luke 22:16,18).

Then Christ explains the character of His government and bestows His Father's Kingdom upon them (Luke 22:29). Finally, the apostles testify that they did indeed eat and drink with Jesus after He rose from the dead. This event fulfills Christ's prediction that when He eats and drinks again it will be when the kingdom of God is fulfilled (Acts 10:39-41).

The Kingdom is HERE and NOW! This is the Good News.

I find these scriptures very interesting concerning the Kingdom of Heaven and when it was fulfilled.

Why JW's know so much about the Bible

jehovah's witnesses study the bible in ways that a lot of other people don't.

Yeah right! that's why my wife and I were advised to stick with WT publications and not look to deeply, you don't want to get ahead of the FDS do you? Yeah their holding us back! That's just too funny! we were doing research on the other books mentioned in the bible and were told not to. They don't know what real research is, and those who try are stopped. unless their using approved WTS material. What a JOKE! Acadian

i have heard from many people when i would go out in the ministry that "we" witness do not believe in jesus.

when my mother first heard about me becoming interested in the witness that is what she said.

Who has AUTHORITY over the "Watchtower"? Who is the HEAD? Christ? The "State" is the entity that has AUTHORITY over the "Watchtower" Their incorporated into the "State" so they have to follow their master the "State" It is a basic principle of law that what one creates, one controls. Any church/organization that is incorporated, gets its life from the State and must obey the State or lose its corporate status. "Corporate" means shaped into a body. State incorporated churches/organizations are part of the body of the State. Those who claim to be Christian are to be the body of Christ and receive their life from Jesus Christ, not the State. By their own teachings, haven't they commited apostasy/ fornication with the Beast/State by incorporating themselves to recieve benifits from the State? So I don't care how many truths the spew (if any), doesn't scripture say that even the devil can appear as an angle of light? They are the true APOSTATES! Acadian

That wasn't my house was it? lol... had the bookstudy at my house for 10 yrs, the last couple of yrs I was pretty inactive. The reason I had meetings at my house was, I didn't have to go anywhere...LOL Acadian
