by AK - Jeff ini am smitten with christmas music now.
i love it - after 40 years of cringing at the sound of the season.. i just made a cd with about 20 different renditions of white christmas.

I have a Christmas Classical Instrumental and Classical Vocal playing as well as a Celtic Christmas cd on right now. I just love it....I also like Harry Connick Jr.'s version of "Ava Maria"....it's such a beautiful song....Bing Crosby's "A White Christmas" is beautiful....

Welcome to the forum!! Hopefully, your parents have decided that family is MORE IMPORTANT than the WT!! Lots of good advice here, I'd definitely be careful, and not leave your baby alone with them, until you are certain they will not try to "brainwash" with their beliefs. In the meantime, I wish you well.

Is there a bird watcher in the house?
by unclebruce inthis evening i went for a walk near the mouth of the bega river, several kilometres from my place.
i enjoyed the peace and took a few photos.. for several years the pelicans here were my concern (keeping an eye on them and occationally capturing them to remove fish hooks and the like.
while there a duck billed mud stinky arrived.

What a beautiful rack!! My family has hunted for generations, but they eat all they kill. They relied on deer, pheasant, wild turkey, rabbits and moose, to get them through the winter, for many years, and even when I was a baby. There were many racks from deer and moose that adorned the house and the barns.
I have seen the damage that deer and moose can cause, when you hit them...not a pretty site. Moose have put my father in the hospital on 3 occasions, when he was driving transport way up north. Totalled his trucks on 2 occasions.
My future son-in-law is also a hunter, and he got a beautiful wild turkey in the spring, and a deer.He eats what he kills also. I have no problem with hunters. They keep the population under control, or there'd be way more accidents.

grandparents day in latest Awake!
by becca1 inin the new awake!
there is a short experience of a young sister who said: "we don't celebrate granparents day".
what is the basis for this conclusion?

I love November 8th..."I hate to Cook" day.
I celebrate that every Friday night...we call it "Fend night", everyone finds something to eat, from the leftovers all week. Or, we just order a pizza, or Chinese take out.

Raising well rounded and balanced kids...what have you done right?
by My MILs worst nightmare, a nonJW inparenting is one of the most difficult yet rewarding things there is.
doesn't every parent want their children to have a good moral compass, to have good manners, to be socially adept, to be compassionate, to reach their potential and even overachieve in terms of school and career, to appreciate and understand history, science, the arts and the world as a whole, to play team sports when they are younger so they can benefit from physical activity and the comraderie of a team sport, and above all to be a critical thinkers who are strong and independent so that they will not become easy prey to abusive organizations and/or abusive people?.
as a parent i have many times felt like a real failure and at other times like i am actually helping them to reach their potential.. what do you feel that you have done right in raising well rounded and balanced kids?

Well, I'm not sure if I've done anything right, but the best thing we've ever done, was leave the borg.
Our kids are still being raised with morals, and values, but they are also allowed to do things, they wouldn't have been able to do as witnesses. They have good friends, and play sports, which keeps them busy, and they enjoy it. We allow them to be themselves, and express themselves, within reason. We get to know their friends, and their parents, they aren't allowed to just "hang around", they must have something to do, with their friends, be it skateboarding, or "jamming", or going to the movies. We keep them busy, and it means less time to get into trouble. However, it doesn't mean there won't be some kind of troubles along the way. Kids will be kids. So far, so good...got my fingers crossed...
Raising children is trial and error. We're trying to do better than our parents did, by letting them have a somewhat "normal"childhood.
They are making plans to further their education, when they finish high school, in order to have good jobs in which to support themselves.
We have more time to focus on the family, now, and that has been the best thing for us. We need to make time for family. As Witnesses, we spent far too much time, going to meetings, assemblies and preparing to go in service, than we did spending time with each other.
This is what is working for my family. Of course, every family is different.

I'm sooooo low in my spirits today... :(
by FreedomFrog ini'm not going to get into much details but i'm just so depressed today.

i have been sinking into this depression lately and it seems like it's starting to consume me.

Thinking of you, FreedomFrog. I've been there also. I had to get busy...go out for a walk, clear my head. Someone else mentioned exercise...that really works too. I found a heavy bag and a good pair of boxing gloves helped me immensely.
Talking things out....knowing others are there for you...knowing others have had similar troubles in the past...it all helps. Sometimes some may need medication to get through the toughest part of depression. We're all here for you hon.
love Dee~ xxx
