Nice topic, but bittersweet.
I taught myself to sew at the age of 9 and made many of my own clothes in H.S.
My dream was to be a fashion designer. One of my teachers in high school tried help me get a scholarship to a design school but I told her I would not be going to college as I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She cried.
I don't think I had enough talent or patience to be successful at that but I would have liked to try. Now I still love beautiful fabric but have no interest in doing anything with it. What happens to that drive and energy?
I did eventually get my B.A. in English many years later. I then fantasized about becoming a lawyer but I had kids instead. Oh well!

Are Liberal Arts Degree worth it?
by truthseeker inan excellent article, which also refutes the idea that people only go to college to get rich and make money.. http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/departments/elearning/?article=liberalartsare liberal arts degrees worth anything?by jim pollock.
for everyone who says that a liberal arts degree doesn't prepare you for anything, you'll find someone else who claims that it prepares you for everything.
well, both, to some extent.the one thing that's pretty much certain is that right out of the gate, a liberal arts grad will tend to pull a smaller starting salary than his or her friends who majored in business or a technical field.

What's the word?
by bagpuss inif you could sum up your time in the borg with just one word, what would it be and why?.
for me it would be guilt.
guilt about not doing enough ministry, not enough study, doing too much secular work, the list seems endless.on the odd occasions i felt i'd done quite well you can bet we'd have a talk saying more, more more!.

Do you still *want* to believe?
by daniel-p inif the answer is "yes," please explain why.

(i don't think this question needs explaining - i think you all know what i'm talking about.

For many years after I left the dubs I wished that I believed. It was exhausting being out on my own with no support from family or former friends.
I lost my relationship with my mom and I missed her very much. Sometimes I was so tired of the effort that I longed for the imagined ease of "believing". Of getting back into the cocoon.
It would be like sinking into a nice hot bath. Such a relief at first, but then the water gets cold and you can't wait to get out.
Even today I envy those with any type of faith. And yet I will not deceive myself again. -

Sandwich fillings
by greendawn inmy all time favourites are (1)the old cheese and onion combination and (2)bacon with eggs and lettuce.
sometimes the more exotic prawns and avocados.
and what do you all fancy when preparing quick but delicious sandwich snacks?

My absolute favorite is whole grain bread, Best Foods mayo, red onion, and big slices of juicy tomato. Yum! I have eaten these since I was a little kid and I'm not a vegetarian.
