Good targets are mothers, the elderly, and the bereaved. WBTS know their market.

by PopeOfEruke inwhat's the main motivating force behind the average jw?.

No way, I'd miss all of my friends, and all of the interesting people. And I can't even imagine going back to one more brain-numbing meeting. Can you imagine an eternity of them? UUUUGGGHHHH. I'll take eternal death, thanks.

An Elder coming for a visit!
by Mincan ini went back home for the transition period from april to september (and thus college).
they apparently told the freakin' p.o.
i wouldn't like a visit but obviously he has no intention of following someone's wishes.

What's the most important thing to you - pulling his chain, or being kind to your mother? It's possible that you can get through a visit from this guy without saying anything at all. Just be polite, cheerful, and on the way out to somewhere else. This conversation isn't inevitable. If your mum sees his ugly side she might stop involving him in your lives.

In Sydney for my last DC and my wedding, I was traversing a street in the city and was set upon by an elderly lady who I should have recognised as the crazy old dear who gets shoved on stage at every sydney convention, because she has been doing street witnessing for forty years in Sydney without knowing a word of english. She just gives away magazines (others in the congregation give her old copies). I suspect that her report is responsible for a double-digit percentage portion of Australian literature 'placements'. A little further down the street was a bin full of Awakes and WTs.

Why are the WT selling prime estate in Brooklyn - do they know something
by needproof inso i hear that the wt are selling lots of property; worth millions.
1) they sincerely think the end is soon .
2) they just want the money .

3) They are relocating
Every decision is a business decision. It's time to kick out those who are approaching retirement age and make them the congregations problem. They probably did the maths and worked out that it will be better in the long term to sell some old real estate, shift some functions to cheaper land, evade some long-overdue building maintenance, and spread the insurance risk.

Are we in love with our own pain?
by nvrgnbk ini've been doing alot of introspection lately, and i've been wondering this about myself.. what has been your experience?.
do we carry our pain around for so long that it becomes a companion, a part of our self-identity?.
though we know it will benefit us to let it go, do we hold on to it, not wanting to lose an old friend, an integral part of ourselves?.

I can't think of anybody here who is deliberately holding onto their pain, I think that we're all in much the same situation; work out the problem, talk it through, occasionally vent about some immediate experience, work out ways of coping and letting go. I think we talk about grief enough here to know that it's more important to allow the healing process to do its work than to deny the feelings and constantly try to look on the sunny side. That is, there is much to be said for a positive outlook, but I think that a positive outlook includes a healthy understanding of our pain and the things we need to do to get rid of it. And every now and then, a pity party helps. I haven't seen anybody here who only ever expresses anxiety and misery - everybody is just working on it. When people have worked through it, they tend to leave. More power to them!

That is very cool! I don't know anything about my family prior to my grandparents, it would be so good to have had a librarian in the family a hundred years ago.

Welcome Dave!!
Light a cigarette and go blow it in an elders face, while puking Absolut on his shoes.
ROFL! What a fantastic idea. I might make it a reefer (it's legal to grow-your-own in my state, I might take it up just for that purpose).
I hope to contribute something here
You just made me belly laugh mate, thanks!
