Just Witnessed at my Door to an Elder and his Wife About Child Molestation
by flipper inhello all, just had an interesting conversation with a p.o.
elder and his wife who were leaving me a incognito invitation to the "follow the christ" convention.i declined the invitation, but told them i had an associated press article i'd like to leave with them about molestation settlements jw's made outside of court.
i asked if they were aware of this settlement.

That was excellent work! You were able to reach the wife because of her experience in her own family, and your chat will have a huge impact on her.

Sister/Brother *** is disfellowshipped for.....
by Bonnie_Clyde inin the 1950's i remember they used to say what they were disfellowshipped for, whether it be fornication, stealing, etc.
then it was disfellowshipped for "loose conduct", then "conduct not becoming a christian.
" then it was simply "disfellowshipped" or "disassociated.

Divorce rates among JWs higher?
by AK - Jeff indo you believe that divorce rates among jw's is higher or lower than the averages now?.
in the us - at least recently - it was said that about 50% of all marriages will end in divorce.. for decades as a jw - i believed that jw's were immune from this statistic.
among the older married couples divorce seemed almost unheard of - and still, among the older crowd, that holds true i believe.

I can't verify this, but I suspect that there is not a significant difference in divorce rates between the JW and non-JW population, with a 99% confidence interval.

Former or Current Elders, MS, Pioneers.......Did you enjoy these positions?
by R.F. indid you ever enjoy serving in this way or did you view it more as, "it's the thing that's encouraged, so that's what i'll do"?.
im currently a ms and pioneer(will shed this one immediately) and before i ever were appointed these, i always wanted to.
i thought it was a pretty cool thing for someone my age to be instructing the congo, and to have so many look up to you.

I can't respect any guy who takes on that role and stays with it. They must be exposed to exactly how petty and silly the little club is and yet they still want to not just be in it, but be the guys in charge. That's a special kind of Special. Kudos to you guys who realised that you can do much better than that...

Big Love - Disfellowshipped?
by unique1 indid anyone else see big love last night?
when nicky's mom found her with the runaway and denounced her and disowned her, it was so familiar to me and i am sure many others.
it showed the pain nicky felt when her mother turned her back on her even though she was just trying to do what she thought was right.

I haven't been following it but kind of wish I had. I've caught 20 minutes of it, and there were some creepy familiarities.
We know when we are disfellowshipped and or disassociated that it hurts our family members hearts just as much as it does ours
I don't. It's one of me vs. 100 of them. It hurts me more.

A question about time...
by AlphaOmega in...sort of.... there was a thread a few days ago that touched on the subject of time being relative to the observer.. i wondered, does the jwd clock that records the time that we make a post actually post the same time to everyone.. .
i know that it can't get it's time from my pc clock as i see posts at say 8:55pm yet my pc clock says 8:53pm.. so.... what time (according to you) did i make this post ?.
i make it ... 20:46. .

by NikL inso i am at home by myself.

Not as lazy as my personal favourite, which was driving to the most distant house in the territory and then not going in because they're not home if their car is out the front. Then driving to the other side of the territory.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!
Well not really, but hopefully you feel better after all the partying.
