Tell them "You are going to grow old and die". Rock their world a tiny little bit. They won't come back.

Thanks Dag. ayk, I am leaving out lots of details for time sake. I don't usually like to bring up the 'bad times' but sometimes it is important to show the WTBS for who they are. The DF arrangement is a death sentence.
I agree in one way; it is brutal and inhumane, and absolutely about control. However I acknowledge that if it wasn't for disfellowshipping I'd still be in that lame little world. It took a BIG shock to get me out of it, and I suspect that this is true for most disfellowshippees. We take a lot of crap as JWs, but we were of the mindset to keep coming back for more. It took shock treatment to get me out of there. Disfellowshipping was the second-best thing to ever happen to me.
That said, my first confusing JW memory is from age 15 (I was a very young and immature 15, very devoted and naive). My 15-year-old best friend was disfellowshipped and thrown out of her parents home, and I went along with it, it actually drove me deeper into my smug self-righteousness and attachment to the organisation. I got used to it as more and more friends would get dfd, it became almost a rite of passage, and I was in the minority of people who'd made it through adolescence without any judicial action. It stayed with me though - it always seemed wrong that a teenager would have to fend for herself.

Regarding People Who Complain About Everything....
by minimus ini'm sick of them!
my mom was telling me of how her friend is upset again with the elders (and nearly everyone else) because they don't talk to her.
she waits in the back of the hall and watches everyone go by her to see if they'll approach her to see how she's faring.. i know of a certain woman who regularly comments on how certain persons are "giving her a look".

This is absurd!!!!!!!!!!!
by oldflame inthis is so bad people, why are we sitting on our arses and doing nothing about things like this.
this young man gave his life, he will probably never have a wife and family for the rest of his life and this is how they are treated ?
this administration should be ashamed of themselves and i mean down right on their knees ashamed.

What's with all the indignant surprise? Who has ever said that vets get fairly rewarded? What's so different about this war that ensures that the returned get treated better than those returned from any other war? I guess what I want to know is; why, in every generation, is there a segment of the population so easily deluded into putting their lives and future on the line? This has happened to every man who has ever seen action, in the history of time. Why would it be any different now? Why would the recruitment officers suddenly start telling the truth about military service?

Fear of athiests
by changeling ini seemed to have missed some of the excitement from last night.
but i wanted to post my observations.. it seems to me that some have an irrational fear of athiests.
it's as if they fear we are evil people that are out to destroy their faith.

sass_my_frass
Yeah I don't get it. Any belief should stand up to criticism. Any criticism that happens here is usually in response to something obtuse that has been said. If your faith is so weak that you can't handle it, don't read those threads.
'Disagreeing and explaining why' isn't the same as 'disrespecting'.

Replacing every incandescent in your house with compact fluorescents is a good start but it won't solve all of your problems, you'd have to think bigger, like,
- don't buy a plasma tv - it will use more energy than your fridge (double your electricity bill instantly)
- hook up your entertainment unit so that you can turn it off at the wall (don't pay for standby power)
- give up on halogens (I curse the halogen fad - every one of those little bastards uses four times the power of an incandescent, and they're so useless you need three of them to replace every space ordinarily lit by one incandescent)
- learn to live with a smaller fridge, and even no freezer
