Sometimes people become agitated and angry if I question them about something he/she said and then I know something is up. (I have experienced this with my spouse and kids.)

by minimus inwhat signs do you look for in determining whether someone is really telling the truth, outright lying or possibly using "theocratic strategy"??

Was Anyone Reinstated But Felt Marked?
by love2Bworldly injust wondering if any of you experienced what i did years ago when i was reinstated.
although people were excited about my reinstatement and said things like "welcome home", i could tell when i would see people i used to be close to--that they still treated me differently, almost like i had a disease or something.
maybe it's because i was married to a non-jw and had a baby by then?.

I guess it's one of the many reasons I faded away shortly thereafter. I didn't feel like part of the group anymore. And by the time I faded away, no one even called me to ask why.

Maybe your husband is playing a trick on you--does he think you're overweight?
LOL Just kidding. That is very odd, sounds like you have a ghostie.

Did you Ever Dream About Armageddon?
by Englishman injust the once.. i was 19 years old.
i was stll fairly pure except for the odd escapade that involved just a touch of finger-pie.
so there was some semblance of guilt hanging over my head.

Yes I did, but more often I had dreams of demons trying to get me. I would wake up being unable to speak and I would be struggling to say Jehovah's name. Then my sister and I would look through all our belongings to see if we might have brought something home that was possessed. I feel so silly looking back on it.

What do people do in a discussion that ticks you off?
by Terry inwe all enjoy an interesting discussion.
but, sooner or later it seem inevitable that somebody comes along and throws a monekywrench into the mechanism and the huge engine sputters to a halt.. what do people do in a discussion that ticks you off and stops the flow of conversation and turns it from being productive to unproductive?.
is it as simple as disagreeing with you?.

I hate it when people take something a way it wasn't meant or assign bad motives to you. What I really enjoy is the humor I find in many people who post, and I wish I could be as humorous as some of you are.

Welcome. The more stories I read, the more I think some elders actually get some kind of sick enjoyment out of what they do to other people.

Do you see real people here at JWD?
by jeanniebeanz inwhen people post to jwd, do you make an effort to understand "who" they are and take an interest in their wellbeing, or are they just 'ghosts in a machine' there to entertain you?
do the people here fall somewhere in-between for you?
do you think it matters?

I wish I could meet some of you in person. Is there ever any Apostafests in northern California? Maybe we should plan one. I have never been friends with any ex-JWs or ran into any that I used to know who left. I guess I have been hoping to meet someone I know here but I haven't so far. Sometimes I really miss some of the people I grew up with who are JWs.

Are You or Were You Ever On Meds For Depression?
by minimus ini know so many people, not just witnesses that are on zoloft or similar drugs.
i know of some that, once they left the "truth", stopped taking these meds and have not had to go back on them.
i know of some that, if they did not have them, would not be able to properly function......what about you?

Depression runs heavily in my family as well as other mental illnesses. I have been suffering from depression since I was a small child--I just didn't know what was wrong with me until I was in my 30's. I am currently taking Prozac, although it sometimes causes me severe heartburn and stomach pains. But it keeps me from having a nervous breakdown when I am under stress.
I am surprised I didn't commit suicide while a teenage JW, life really sucked then, especially because you are brain-washed to be so isolated from other people and 'worldly' relatives. They just kept preaching trust in jehoover and don't use worldly therapists.
Now I enjoy so much being 'wordly' especially holidays like Christmas! I enjoy the little things in life that I couldn't as a JW.

Just wanted to add one more thing--I am impressed that you are willing to listen to some of us old fogeys! We were young once believe it or not.
I know you are sad your prom date doesn't like you, but you will find love when you least expect it and probably when you aren't looking for it. College will be a great opportunity to meet new friends. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Wish I could be your age again and re-do some things.
