  JW Control over Our Personal Conscience

  here in england we are currently celebrating v. e. day which reminds us overwhelmingly of the individual sacrifices too numerous to imagine that prevented our country being taken over by the nazi regime.

  as a jw i was told that if i supported any charities such as the poppy day for the veterans and their families, i was actually supporting the whole idea of the war and would therefore be opposing the kingdom.

  foolishly, i felt i had no choice but to 'ignore my heart' and its desire to indicate my appreciation to those who sacrificed the ultimate on my behalf.

  I know that I enjoy doing things now that I am not following the WTS, and I feel good about it; I have contributed to various charities such as the US Marines outside a local grocery store were sending care packages to the Marines in Iraq, or charities that collect donations for March of Dimes etc.

  It's funny--they are having a blood drive at my office--and I was thinking to myself that some of the JW's may benefit from some of the donors since they can accept a 'partial' transfusion, but out of 'conscience' the JWs could never donate blood back to the blood bank. That makes no sense to me whatsoever.

  that was the title of a fabulous u2 cd, but i borrow it here to ask you all, old friends, a question.. first, apologies for being absent for so long.

  "real life" projects have cut into my online time, been so busy i haven't had time to turn around twice.

  but you are in my thoughts, daily.. my question for pondering...how do you know what to keep and what to throw away?.

  I got rid of all my WTS publications, and sometimes I wish I had at least saved my bound volumes for research purposes.

  If you are unsure of some items--pack them in a labeled box. You can always look through it again at a later time and decide whether to toss.

  so dont feel anyway bad when any of you leave this lieing institute, they are responsible for more spiritual and literal deaths on this earth than any of the orginisations they slag off.

  well, my sil and best friend came to this site on my recommendation (jw).

  i just wanted her to check it out without judgement as we have always been able to talk about everything.

  she basically was disgusted, said it was full of crap and lies and would never look at it again.

  Sorry about your friend, but you need to be true to yourself and your own beliefs/values. Eventually I will be posting on my JW sister shunning me, because I know I can't keep my disgust toward the WTS to myself much longer.

  You seem to have an attitude yourself. Most of us who post here enjoy humor because it's healing to us after all the BS from the WTS.

  i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

  I was shocked and disillusioned but have similar reactions to all the other things I have learned the last few months. It makes me very sad that my sister is still an active JW, taking in all their BS. I hope to help her exit one day, but it is her whole world.

  JW working the obituaries

  i was reading my local paper this morning and there was a letter to the editor.

  the writer had recently lost a child and the child's obituary was recently printed in our paper.

  the writer said she received a letter with a "jehovah witness tract" called "what help for dead loved ones?

  i am in the middle of reading coc.

  do you think that mexico jw's were spared by the governing body from rigid rules of not being involved in military issues/political party issues compared to other countries such as malawai, because the wts could make more money from people in mexico converting to jws as opposed to some other countries such as malawi?.

  Or do you have any opinions as to why the WTS were so loose with the Mexican JW's vs. other places like Malawi? I guess I am just trying to figure out in my mind why it didn't bother them that people were being killed and tortured in one country, and in another country they didn't care that people were using money to pay bribes to keep from going to jail, etc.

  What are your thoughts?

  here's one thing i get a kick out at times--- it's when i see a new poster give "counsel" and advice as if they were still a jw elder or "eldress" or wannabe.

  you know the authority types that genuinely believe they know it all and that we're all anxious to hear what wisdom might be imparted to us.

  I'm really getting a kick out of learning about how more and more people are leaving the WTS and leading more normal lives. So much for the 'great increase' they've been bragging about for years. More people are turning to Christianity than the JW's.

  And I just get a plain kick out of being a part of this website. We are all strangers and yet connected. It's kind of cool.
