Excellent post! Don't think I have the patience to do that if they come to my door though.

Anti-Witnessesing: Passive Agressive Style Effective for Quotes
by Quotes inwell, they came magazine selling door-knocking ingathering and judgeing witnessing today.
but first, a quick background.... my wife and i have a investment property 90 minutes away from our home (a mistake btw; always invest closer to your home!
) and we've been there (here) full time for the past several days doing some renovations.

What should I do about my brother??? I'm going insane.
by sonnyboy ini'm at my wit's end right about now.. my 24 year old brother is staying in my home as a roommate.
when i bought the house 5 years ago everything was fine; he helped with the housework, cut the grass, and was fair with the amount of 'house food' he'd consume.. time changes everything.
he now does nothing inside the house: no dishes, no vacuuming, no dusting, no anything.

I wish you much luck with your brother, it's tough to have family members who are dysfunctional. Sounds like you may need some counseling on how to overcome being a co-dependent to your alcoholic brother, if he's mentally ill that's a different story--you need to find a doctor who will diagnose him correctly. At any rate, I don't think you are teaching him any real life lessons by putting up with his laziness.

GIVE A GOOD WITNESS---------------
by vitty in"give a good witness" today i made an effort to wave to my neighbour, not because i particularly wanted to or like him, but had a feeling i needed to "prove how nice i was or to give a good witness" .
habits die hard, this follows on from the guilt thread.
i still feel that *i put on a front, i cant be myself, in case i do or say something that could bring reproach, what the hell on i dont know i havent been to a meeting for over a year no one here knows i was a witness.

I know what you mean. It takes a long time for one's brain to register that you don't have to worry anymore what people think of you, that you can just be yourself, and that being yourself is not bringing reproach upon God.

Questions You Could NEVER Ask Your Elders
by minimus injwd is great for giving us the opportunity to ask questions and get answers to things that you could never ask in a kingdom hall.
what are some questions that are simply taboo amongst the "friends"?

Damselfly--I'm sorry I did get your story and was tickled by it, I just didn't see a connection to the elders.
Can I say Never Mind?

This reminds of last Christmas at my boyfriends parents house. His mom gave me the book "Girl with a Pearl Earring". He asked me the title and I held it up for him to read. He yells across the room " Oh! girl with a pearl necklace! I remember you said you wanted that!" His brothers and I had tears rolling down our cheeks we were laughing so hard. Then his mom wanted to know what was so funny........ no one told her.
Damselfly I don't get it (scratches my head)

In MY kingdom hall........
by Pistoff inthere will be coffee in the back.
the format for thursday night will rotate, and will include slides, videos, improv talks about subjects speakers choose.
women will be elders and ms's......if they can be kings and priests with jesus, that's good enough for me; paul might not like it but he will get used to it.

My KH: would serve as a voting poll booth, a military sign-up post, university/college recruitment staff would have monthly meetings, we would have a monthly movie night of only rated 'R' and 'XX' movies, we would have Tuesday night orgies, Thursday night book study of the most recent Stephen King or other demonized books, Sundays would be a full on Babylon the Great Harlot Church Service with worldly singing of Jesus' praises, and the Sunday talk would be on all the church doctrines from Christendom that actually do have a Bible base such as the Trinity, Mondays would be a local blood drive in the KH parking lot, and Saturday mornings we would have a Church Rummage sale where many demonized items would be for sale with the proceeds going to the annual Christmas Party.

Somethings just not true!
by defd inive been here for sometime now.
long enough to know that some peoples hatred toward th wtbts and some of its members are based on wrong information.
for instance: ive read on hear many times that the wt promotes the idea that everyone whos not a witness are not friend material or will be destroyed at armageddon.

"Anyone who has had a JW knock on their door and not accepted the truth is condemned to death by their loving God Jehovah."
I remember this message being promoted on the platform at the KH many many times. The message from the BS society was that everyone would have a chance to listen to the JWs before Armageddon came. And I remember the repeated admonitions from JWs and the Watchtower magazine both, regarding bad association and how it was better to associate with 'brothers and sisters''--even people we didn't get along with, rather than the evil 'worldly people'.
Thanks Blondie and all you other posters who have posted quotes straight from the horse's mouth, the BS Society. Appreciate all the research you folks do at the drop of a hat.
After hearing all this wonderful quoted information from the Watchtower, I'll think I'll go barf in the bathroom.......uh oh I'm not going.......to......make......it......to......the.....bathroom...........(heaving uncontrollably after being reminded of all the lies and bullshit I was once subjected to every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.)

SHOW SOME EMOTION
by tijkmo ini was thinking today the showing emotion is frowned upon by jws .
you cant be angry..about anything..because you arent cultivating the fruit of the spirit .
you cant be bitter..because you should be forgiving .

I'm starting to think that was why I felt comfortable with the JWs in my teen years. My parents were not JWs, and my dad spent all his time dictating to me and my siblings how we were supposed to feel--downgrading us all the time, making fun of us if we were upset, telling us we shouldn't be unhappy or upset; similar to the JWs in a way--I remember losing my brother when I was a teenager and some of my JW friends couldn't figure out why I was crying because after all he would be resurrected, I couldn't figure out why they weren't more sympathetic toward me in my grief.

End of the World Near?
by love2Bworldly ini am wondering how many people out there still believe that in the next 100 years or so that this world/earth is going to be destroyed?.
my husband is a christian, and sometimes he is obsessed with world events in the middle east and he thinks one day soon all the christians are going to be raptured away to heaven while the antichrist rules here on earth.
i am extremely uncomfortable when he talks about it because it reminds me of the jws.. any thoughts out there?
