Welcome to the forum, awesome post! I really admire you, you have accomplished so much!
My parents were not JWs but I have suffered from severe depression since I was a small child, had a very dysfunctional childhood and made it worse by being involved in the JWs with my sister from the age of 12 to 21. It took a long time for me to have self-esteem, and to realize I was not ugly and boring like I thought I was, and that I was a worthwhile person.
Good luck on your career! Look forward to hearing more of you.

"Hemophiliacs are like vampires!"
by rebel8 inas i have talked about before, i have a serious bleeding disorder, not hemophilia though.
back in the dark ages of the '70s, the medical term used was "pseudo-hemophilia".
because i did not get appropriate medical care (thanks to the wts), i spent many hours during meetings sitting in the smelly ladies room at the kh trying to control my nosebleeds.

Rebel8--just wanted to say that I'm glad you are able to get the medical treatment you need. Don't listen to JW, he/she just wants to yank everyone's chain.

The name Jehovah and demons.
by Zico inthe society teaches that if unexplainable things are happening in your home, then shouting out the name jehovah will cause them to stop.
as you probably know, this is meant to be because these strange things are caused by demons, which may have posessed an object from your home, which was previously used in demonic activity.
but, supposedly, since they fear jehovah, shouting out this name can cause these things to stop, even if only temporarily.

Snarf--too funny!
I remember suffering from terrible nightmares about demons when I was in the Jdumbs and trying to say Jehovah. I would usually wake up mumbling it. Funny how I hardly ever have nightmares since leaving that cult. I used to have nightmares about dying at Armageddon also.

Your great deep secret
by greendawn intell us one of your great deep secrets that you are willing, and don't mind, to share with other people.
one of my secrets is that when i was 14 years old (and before becoming a jw) i had sex with a girl my age and also her sister who was one year older than me.
fortunately their mother didn't find out though i think she was suspecting that something fishy was going on.

To you brave wives trying to escape--my prayers are with you. I have been in a similar situation where I had to escape from an abusive spouse--I moved out when he was at work. I left before he used his fists on me--my wake-up call was when he pulled my 3 year old's hair--after the divorce he was arrested for beating up various girlfriends. I admire women who have the self-esteem to not put up with abuse and escape. So horrible to have to walk on eggshells, I haven't seen or spoken to my ex-husband in about 10 years and neither have his 2 kids. He's now living out of a shopping cart his mother tells me, I'm sure he's doped up on drugs. Now even his mother and sister don't speak to him because he has turned into such an angry nutball. I have no regrets because he gave me 2 beautiful kids, now 19 and 17, who have never been in trouble and are awesome young people; he's missed out on so much--even graduation from high school last year of his daughter. So sad, but he won't get help.
Don't feel like divulging secrets right now, then it wouldn't be a secret would it?

Honest Hearted Ones -- excuse me while I lose my lunch. Yeah all those honest hearted ones who molested kids while being an elder or other fine upstanding member of the congregation.

Did the Witnesses you know, see "Fortune Cookies" as evil?
by free2beme ini was in a few congregations growing up and like many things in the organization, rules were often regional.
one of those issues i remember and it was something i always got a kick out of, was people's reaction to fortune cookies at chinese food restaurants.
i had not run in to it as a child, and then i moved away as a young adult and was studying with witnesses to get baptized and they would try to make me feel more welcome, by inviting me to meals with other witnesses in the congregation.

Sorry for your loss--I lost my aunt yesterday after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was also my mom's sister. She took me a lot of places when I was young, like camping and Disneyland; I miss her dearly.

Say something horrible.............but true about your kids ..............
by vitty inalthough, the complaints may be valid and sad.
many posters here have vented about their wicked parents.. i think its time we parents have a post dedicated to saying something horrid about our kids.
it maybe something you have wanted to say about them that was in the past or happening now.

"I love my son to death, but he could charm the skin off a snake. He owes me a ton of money, dammit! He's getting debt reduction as birthday and Christmas gifts now." Great idea if my kids try to borrow money after they're grown!
Makes me sad reading some of these posts. Being a parent is very challenging no matter what. I have 3 kids, 2 of which are turning out pretty great--19 years and almost 17 years; my 13 year-old has a different dad and that makes a huge difference. She doesn't seem to have any social skills, and her desire for attention is literally consuming me; I have her in counseling--I hope she gets better one day, recently she cut and burned her arm to get attention and had to stay in a hospital for a week.
