This is the same kind of ego-centrism that causes them to make statements like "The Demons single out Witnesses, because they saw their children (The Nephilim) drowned in the flood, and they are incredibly angry at those that truly worship Jehovah." Whatever...

Jesus Christ Superstar
by FlyingHighNow inappreciation for the original soundtrack for the rock opera theater cast and for the movie that soon followed.
but any comments on any of the versions or stories you have, thoughts you have on this masterpiece by andrew lloyd webber would be cool.. first question: ian gillan, the original jesus, of deep purple fame on the soundtrack from 1970?.
or ted neely, a texas rocker who did the role of jesus in the movie?.

The movie left a lot of unanswered questions, and raised even more in my mind:
Ham wanders off by the end of the movie, no offspring for him (and no one to scapegoat for the slaughtering of Canaanites under Moses' and Joshua's ethnic cleansing program (pogrom?), or to justify hundreds of years of African slavery in later years.)
I looked up Tubal-Cain. In many traditions, he is considered the ancestor of the smithy, and figures prominently in Masonic ritual. But, if he did not survive the flood, then who carried on the traditions of iron works and metallurgy, especially if Noah was so dead set against any vestiges of the Old World surviving (except murder, apparently; They start that one right up again when they hit dry land.)
Tubal-Cain's character was more interesting than Noah. He is shown to be an angry man, who is disregards The Creator, but at the same time, is angry that He won't talk to him as he talks to Noah. But the bad guys always seem more interesting than the good guys in most stories.
The movie shows the fallen angels being called back home after they defend the Ark from the armies of Tubal-Cain. This is definitely a new idea to me, since I was always taught that they never got to return, and they were angry that their children (the Nephilim) were drowned with the rest of humanity. Now, I am not in any way defending WT interpration of Genesis, but I did find it interesting that in this story, these "Watchers" were able to redeem themselves (even though the way they ascended reminded me of the movie "This Is The End", when Seth Rogan and Jay Baruchel get called to Heaven on a beam of light while Whitney Houston sings "I Will Always Love You").
When the little girl asks Noah to sing her to sleep, I hoped that Russell Crowe would start singing lyrics from "Les Miserables". -

Showing up at a door with Watchtower does not automatically make someone a JW any more than someone showing up at the door with fake badge makes them a cop, or wearing a hardhat and carrying a cilpboard makes them a utility worker. But many home invasions are done by people using tactics just like this.
Plus, don't JW's usually go in pairs? -

What is the main "idea" of the bible?
by KateWild inas jws we were often told what the theme of the bible is, we were taught that it was the promised seed.. i was recently asked the question.... what is the main "idea" of the bible?.
for me the whole purpose of the bible is about control.
it features a god that punishes and rewards.

"The two Testaments are interesting, each in its own way. The Old one gives us a picture of these people's Deity as he was before he got religion, the other one gives us a picture of him as he appeared afterward."

When I was 6 or 7, I didn't mind doing the Bible reading.
When I was 37, and still stuck at just doing the Bible reading, I was getting kind of annoyed.
I know that learning how to read and just speak in front of a crowd at an early age helped later in school and in my job.
But when you have to give presentations at work, or "stand tall in front of the man" when you are dealing with an angry customer, the Bible reading is pretty much small potatoes and more of an annoyance than anything else.
I don't see there being anything wrong with teaching a kid how to do public reading at a young age, if they are ready for it. I do agree with finally awake that the young ladies should be allowed the chance to read aloud as well. -

I think your observations are spot on. Sorry for your experience.
I was at the JW funeral of a very devout and devoted elder. I don't know who the clown was that gave the talk, he was from his old hall, and the stupid mo-fo couldn't even say the man's last name correctly! His name was Hiatt, and the idiot kept calling him Wyatt. I saw one couple (non Witness) get so mad that they got up and left in the middle of the talk. I didn't blame them one bit.
A few months ago, I went to a very different service, for a woman who was not a Witness, and what a difference it was. It was warm, their was laughter mixed with tears as anecdotes from her life, as well as beloved quirks and pet peeves of hers were remembered. And the place was PACKED with people, people who knew her and who's lives were touched by her. It was celebration of life, not a recruiting speech by some fumble tongued dung-heeled cowboy. -

Apostate NT Canon
by Pterist inas mentioned in july 15th 2013 watchtower "the apostasy started in the first century and flourished by the fourth century" or words to that effect.. as i was reading ff bruce's "the bible canon" ($14 kindle ver.
on amazon) i was very surprised to read that there are no original nt documents from the first century, just copies of copies of copies of many documents from that period.
apparently the 27 book nt canon was not set until about the fourth century by trinitarian church fathers.
