i picked out the song "landslide" for my mother's funeral about a month ago, which most of my extended family, jw's one and all, attended.
it didn't even cross my mind when i selected the song, my mom just had always liked it.

i came across this interesting article on how the economy is closing stores.
we talk about it every week, but what have you seen in your own community that shows the economy is affecting us all?.
store closings: symptoms of a depressed economy .
22. Sharper Image: The company recently filed for bankruptcy protection and announced that 90 of its 184 stores are closing. The retailer will still operate 94 stores to pay off debts, but 90 of these stores have performed poorly and also may close.
I am surprised that this Crap-o-torium has remained in business all these years! There is absolutely nothing in this store that is worth the price tags affixed to them. Someone buying their product deserves the profound disappoint and buyer's remorse that occurs minutes after leaving the store.
The other store that is it's dark-looking-glass equivalent, that I am surprised is still around, is Spencer's. Part head shop, part joke shop. and all junk shop, it's like the red-neck cousin of Sharper Image, where people can spend their hard earned cash on cheapo lighted beer adverts and t-shirts for pregnant teens that say "I guess I shoulda given him a b**w-j*b instead!". Maybe the lack of spending cash will arrest the decline and fall of Western Civilization (but probably not.)

As "disposable income" is starting to disappear, this is going to affect a lot of markets, particularly entertainment (like video stores), specialty clothing stores, jewelry shops, etc. People gotta decide between food, gas, shelter, and extras, and the credit cards are all maxed!
at a recent dc, an elderly sister was interviewed.
she recounted how she endured through many years of her husband's opposition, never giving up, until finally he relented.
eventually, he bacame baptized and joined her in the full-time pioneer work.. end of experience.
At last year's assembly, the experience was given by a brother I know personally, about how he quit his job to serve where the need was greater, turning down more money, etc., etc. Then, says he, he got a job that paid better than the previous one! (Applause, applause).
What he left out was that the congregation that he went and served at no longer exists! It shut down due to lack of members, and a poor economy in the surrounding area. So, in reality, he is back in our major metropolitan area, serving at a different congo, and the job he works at is back here in the city!
does anybody know of any words, which are spelt and pronounced the same, which are used in other languages but which mean completely different things?
as an example (which doesn't work i know) love in english means affection, but love in say, spanish, means hate?
dumb example i know, but do you catch my drift?
Dong
In Vietnam, it's the name of the National Currency
In the US, it's the thing that can cost a man a lot of currency if he uses it where he shouldn't...

Auto-correct can be a very helpful feature of any word-processing program. But when conservatives use it, they run the risk of embarrassing themselves.
The American Family Association’s OneNewsNow website, for example, takes its AP articles and replaces the word “gay” with the word “homosexual.” I’m not entirely sure why, but it seems to make the AFA happy. The group is, after all, pretty far out there.
The problem, of course, is that “gay” does not always mean what the AFA wants it to mean. My friend Kyle reported this morning that sprinter Tyson Gay won the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials over the weekend. The AFA ran the story, but only after the auto-correct had “fixed” the article.
That means — you guessed it — the track star was renamed “Tyson Homosexual.” The headline on the piece read, “Homosexual eases into 100 final at Olympic trials.” Readers learned:
Tyson Homosexual easily won his semifinal for the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials and seemed to save something for the final later Sunday.
His wind-aided 9.85 seconds was a fairly cut-and-dry performance compared to what happened a day earlier. On Saturday, Homosexual misjudged the finish in his opening heat and had to scramble to finish fourth, then in his quarterfinal a couple of hours later, ran 9.77 to break the American record that had stood since 1999. […]
Homosexual didn’t get off to a particularly strong start in the first semifinal, but by the halfway mark he had established a comfortable lead. He slowed somewhat over the final 10 meters-nothing like the way-too-soon complete shutdown that almost cost him Saturday. Asked how he felt, Homosexual said: “A little fatigued.”
Now, the AFA has since changed the article back to the way it was originally written by the AP reporter, but don’t worry, Kyle got the screen-grab before the AFA edited the piece back.

it's saturday afternoon at the district assembly.
the brother at the speaker's stand drones on ( while most of the audience naps discreetly).
"so, brothers, isn't it wonderful that we have the truth?
My fantasy involves some kind of James Bond-ian voice scrambler that takes whatever is said on the platform, and reformats it to something more truthful, in the same voice of the speaker.
Examples:
"Brothers, aren't we glad to be in attendance at this wonderful feast?" becomes "Suckers! Bet you're sorry to be missing work to attend another bore-fest!"
"Time and again, the Faithful Slave has been in the forefront of promoting Bible Truth!" becomes "The so called Faithful Slave doesn't know Jack about what they are talking about!"
"We are the only ones that have the Truth!" - "We are world's most excellent Liars!"
"Next year, if Jehovah allows it, we have planned an informative and encouraging program!" - "Unless Hell freezes over, we will require you to come to another Assembly that looks and sounds just like this one!"
etc.
