It's so nice that the watchtower allows bethelites enough time to devote themselves to university studies

Is Discussing Jehovah's Witnesses Therapeutic For You???
by minimus init is for me.
i find that when i tell a person exactly how witnesses think and why they believe in things the certain way they do, it feels good!
listening to myself express the craziness of the religion makes me abhor their practices and mind control.

It is for me. When I quit going to meetings because I couldn't take it anymore I still believed all of it though I couldn't discuss why I wouldn't go anymore with anybody still in and when you talk to people that dont know much about the witnesses they just look at you with a "so what" kind of response like quit going is just like quitting any other church. This site as well as Ray Franz's books helped me start to break down the walls and helped me escape the mental captivity I have been in for the past 20 years.

Yeah back in the 80s I was strongly discouraged, surprised I wasn't marked but may as well have been, when I went to college just to get a bacheolor's degree and those working at bethel dont get any flack for pursuing a graduate degree or more?

What was the truth when you joined the Org?
by JH in.
when i joined the jw org.
the truth was that we were separating sheep from goats by preaching door to door.. today this isn't so.. name a few truths that were true back then but are lies today.. .

What reaction would you have had from the Witnesses back then if.......
by JH in.
what reaction would you have had from the witnesses if you would have told them, back then when you joined the org, that the year 2005 will come and go, and nothing that the jw's predicted will come to pass.....nothing?

you would have been considered a heretic and figuratively burned at the stake.

WHAT DUB THINGS WILL YOU NEVER FORGET?
by Mary innow as much as no one wants to admit it, we all know that there are things we learned in the borg that we'll never forget even if we live to be a hundred.
what is something that you know you'll always remember (despite your best efforts to forget!
for me, it's matthew 24:14 and the names of the three hebrews thrown into the firey furnace (shadrach, meeee-shack and a-bed-we-go)

Matthew 6:33
The JW answer for everything, especially when you broke, unemployed and struggling and trying to support yourself when you are going through hard times. It got to where every time someone would quote me that scripture I wanted to hit 'em upside the head!

Skirting the issue
by Virgogirl inwhat argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?
where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?
i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.

Loubelle:
You go gurl!!! Do not get discouraged and all that work you are doing is not in vain since the numbers on the scales are going down. Your clothes will still get looser and you will feel better even though those number will not go down all the time. Your body is changing and your metabolism is speeding up and you will continue to lose! In addition to that you are gaining some muscle which will add on weight while you lose fat and you being a woman sometimes your cycle will play a role in your weight as well as fluid (which Im sure you already know this) I went though that this year (stagnet scales) and lost almost 20 pounds this past summer but I have gained a little back since I have slacked off exercise due to a healing 6 inch incision on my lower back from surgery earlier this month. I may have the rest of the sutures removed later today hopefully but it still has a ways to get completely healed.
