I wonder if people once thought, "Marriage is a union between a man and a woman of the same race" when considering mixed-race marriages?
They probably did since it was illegal in places years ago. Many bible thumpers who define marriage as between a man and a woman say they base their belief from the bible but the bible has also been used to endorse slavery and allow polygamy, even though both of those institutions are now illegal.

I finally did the right thing
by cyberdyne systems 101 ini had been friendly to a woman i met recently and wanted to take things further, but found out she was with someone when i asked if she wanted my number.
i bumped into her again two weeks later and she then asked for my number, so i asked her again was she with someone, she said yes but she could still text me.
my gut reaction through mistakes i have made in the past was to not get involved.

Yeah, just think if you really fell in love with this person and she attached to someone else. You would ultimately be the one burned, not necessarily the one she already is with.

The Love Starved
by purplesofa inwhen i first got on the internet, 8/9 years ago, the only people i came in contact with were jw's.
i had just been reinstated, after being df for 9 years.
my first observation was how lonely the chatters were.

This thread has brought back memories and years of me being a JW like no other one has. Sometimes as a JW I felt so alienated on both sides even some family that I considered worldly at the time and not close to a lot of the other JWs in my congregation; the were so cliquish. It got to the point to where I would stay up all night after getting home from work late at night and drinking and taking Restoril to help go to sleep if the wine didn't first.

Im not comparing gays with people with birth defects. What Im saying is that a lot of people argue that same sex marriage should not be legal because marriage was intended for a man and a woman. If Im not attracted to women and can't form a legal life partnership with another man, why shouldn't I be entitled to the same benefits that married couple's get? I work and pay taxes just like the next average Joe but denied that?
To discriminate against gay people in that manner would be like discriminating against people born bind, deaf or whatever. People are born gay; it isn't a choice. That was the thought I was trying to get across.

My opinion is that "marriage" was intended to be a union of a male and a female........
If we go along with that reasoning people were "intended" to be born without serious birth defects.
That being said, should people being born blind, deaf or mute or missing extremities be denied certain benefits that people born healthy enjoy?

Do you have any "old friends"?
by AlmostAtheist inhey all,.
i was thinking today that many of us lack something that other people enjoy -- old friends.
we either weren't close to our high school friends, or sort of shut them out of our lives.

I have friends I have known for over 20 years but we basically went our separate ways and are no longer close. I do keep in touch with a couple of friends, two in particular, who call me and I call them from time to time. Since we dont live in the same town (they are from my hometown) I dont see them much; however they dont truly know me as well as you describe close friends really knowing you since I was afraid to trust people completely to let them know everything about me.
I guess this place is really the first place that I am getting to really open up more and reveal parts of who I was then as JW and who I am now and who I always was but didn't want to admit to myself. I guess people reading my posts are discovering more about who I am at the same time I am finding out more about myself, lol.

Im gay also but I dont believe people's hearts and minds are going to change much. If people had to wait for that to happen before change comes along, there still would be lots of places where blacks would have to go through the back door in restaurants to order carry out and not even be allowed to dine in like back in the 60s in restaurants where my mother worked.
In Arkansas there was a law struck down by the courts (a law that banned gays from being foster parents) No gays can be foster parents and the governer here is still trying to find a way to prevent gays from taking in children in and providing care to them, children who have nobody and nobody wants.
Most civil rights that any minority has now were provided by laws or court rulings and not by popular vote.
