When DID the Jews return?
by Doug Mason inthe date of the jews return to jerusalem following their captivity in babylon, is absolutely crucial to the gb.
importance of the date .
this date (537 for the return of the jews to their homeland) plays a very important role for all bible students (jws), for by it we can fix the time of the beginning of the desolation of the land of judah and the beginning of the times of the gentiles, or, the appointed times of the nations.

Personally, any world view (cosmology) can become a crutch if one stops thinking, examining, re-considering, etc. Even your atheism is a form of opiate if you refuse to consider dispationately evidence that would challenge your conceptions, whether long held or recently adopted.
Many judge religion by a very narrow window of experiance, extrapolating from one or two data points and drawing conclusions that would likely be moderated if time were taken to look deeper. "Religion" is not a monoliting "one size fits all" term. There is a broad spectrum of religious experiances, most all with common denominators, yet dramatically different in practice.
So, yes many folks of the "religious" type are pretty blinded to any other outlook, then too, I meet wonderful openminded refreshing religous people all the time that readily acknowledge that they have a strong faith but are willing to consider other views.
How about you?

Did You Ever Do This?
by Outaservice init seemed that running my business and all the meetings at the hall, plus my social life was taking a toll on my time.
there was a brother at the hall, that was married, and a very good public speaker (used to be a radio announcer) .
anyhow, he was always short on cash and was agreeable to my offer as follows............... if i was assigned to give a talk out of town at a neighboring congregation, i would pay him to take the talk for me as a substitute (at the time $25.00) and then i would stay home that day.. i gave him $10 for an instruction talk, $10 for a service meeting part, and $5 for anything else such as reading the watchtower sundays or a bible reading, etc.. it was a 'win, win' situation for both of us.. outaservice (now out of money).

I am not defined by my past
by Lady Lee inevery now and then the question comes up about how we define ourselves; whether we will always be ex-jehovahs witnesses.. if the answer to the question is yes then i am married forever to a definition provided by an organization that cares for no one - not even its chosen ones.. it colors who i am today.
but i am not defined by it.. in the 1960s when few kids had parents who didn't live together i was the odd kid who didn't have a mother around.
not only had she left my father but she left me.

LL, I agree very much with the central theme of your post. Although much of my outlook on life was framed by my early childhood training as a JW, I refuse to be a "victim" rather, I prefer to make lemonade out of lemons as have you. carmel

Judge's Decision on JWs Stir Up Jews
by Kenneson ina judge in israel has ruled that the haifa convention center must rent space to jehovah's witnesses because it offers its goods and service to the public.
it cannot discriminate because of religious beliefs.
the ruling has been ratified by the attorney general's office.

This is interesting to me since I lived in Haifa for four years and participated in Baha'i events held at the convention center. The center has no problem renting to the Baha'is as they do not attempt to convert Jews. The witlesses, however, go door to door and preach on the beach trying to recruit new magazine salesmen. Isreal is still a Jewish state and as such has laws agains prostelyzing, which if flaunted will eventually come back to bite you. Dubbies are crying foul when they on the other hand willingly break the law. carmel
