I also wonder if many if not most JWS feel scared to death that they are not "good enough" based on how big brother brow beats them so they aren't gonna make it through the big A. I think a lot of there expressions of superiority are a cover for basic insecutity before the big J. carmel

Do JWs really want Armageddon?
by truman inrecently several threads have been under discussion concerning the possible change in the understanding of the jw this generation that will not pass away teaching.
since the change in the early 1990s that sought to disconnect the doctrine from its previous anchor date of 1914 and another change in 2007 to free it from 1935, it seems now that more alteration is in the works.
in the scotsmans thread, he says that as these new light understandings come out of the wts, most r & f jws will embrace this with both hands.

how will I know you in paradise?
by tula inso we have been led to believe that we will all look the same as we do now...except we will have no flaws and a perfected body without deformity or ailment.
hmmm..... how do we know this to be true?
is there any scriptural reference to this aspect of "resurrection"?

So here's what I'm thinking...my bleeding heart liberal rant...
by changeling ini heard on the news this morning that the us has finally met it's enlistement quota.
they acheived this by offering a $20,000 bonus upon enlisting.. the us has also relaxed it's standards as to who they allow to enlist.
a criminal record and drug issues will no longer keep you out of the armed forces.. so, in many cases the country is sending uneduacted, criminally inclined young men and women to a nasty war, to witness atrocities that furthur sear their conscience.

Until Ronald Regan was elected govenor, the first two years of college in public schools of California were FREE! He and his minions objected to college students protesting and expressing thoughts that were contrary to his, hence justification to cut off funding. If we really want to compete in the world economy we should invest in education but then an educated electorate couldn't be as easily blinded by wool! carmel

My eldest son got his degree in International Economics but never used it much as he is a self taught computer whiz. #2 son got his degree in Middle Eastern Studies, but like #1 is a computer genius and fares quite well working for the Department of Justice in California. Daughter #2 is in graduate school studiing for her MD and son #3 is just getting started with a focus on computer science and business admin. Our adopted daughter chose not to go on to college in spite of our encouragement. Hormons got in the way and she never took advantages of opportunities after our grandson was born. Education in our family was priority #1 but we made our kids earn their money for school. They are/were all honor students. carmel

Welcome karter! My best take-away from the borg was to realize I could survive without being in the majority in any situation. As a dub, survival wasn't easy as we did a lot of dumb stuff like door-to-door and standing on the street corner hawking rag mags. So through life I've been willing to take a different path and not be crushed by the mainstream group think. Gets me in hot water occasionally, but hey, hot water feels good now and then. As to making one a good public speaker, I'm sure the ministry school helped, but there are millions of good public speakers out there that never stepped foot on the kingdumb hall platfform or had the bounty of being critiqued by the ministry school servant. carmel

Is the Bible really from God.....
by REBORNAGAIN inor just from everyday people like you and me and christians just held on to it because it gave them something to hope for and put faith in?.
if it really is from god, why are things still so mysterious, i.e.
why are we still in the dark about the future?

Linda, you seem to be in a good frame of mind, open to other's ideas and questioning what you've thought to be "true" in the past. You might look for commentaries on the bible from different sources. Certainly there are many Christians of different stripes that view the bible differently. The fundamentalists tend to take every passage litterally, which pretty much destroyes its continuity and legitimacy (IMHO). There are other non-christian comentaries which generally are pretty negative as responses to the bible thumpers that tend to be dogmatic and "in-your-face". I read many of these in my quest for understanding for years and finally gave up as it was all just too much claims and counter claims getting nowhere. Not until I began reading commentaries by Baha'i scholars did I re-kindle an interest in the bible and how it fits in with other "holy" writings. Now I have no trouble accepting it as an "inspired" compiliation of scripture, however, I take most all of it as metaphor and story telling that focuses on the principle being expoused rather on the accuracy or scientific verifiability of the details. I hope you can maintain your openmindedness be fair in your judgement as you seek what is true for you. carmel
