  Memorial conundrum - "So good to see you. Where have you been?"

  ok, gearing up for the memorial - our annual have to attend.

  this is the first year that we will be showing up without having been to meetings in months.

  on the last meeting i was cajoled into attending, i was bombarded with the above question.

  that would be a rude question .... in terms of your jw experience, have the losses you've suffered been offset by the good you've gained?.

  Well, let me see! Lost a dysfuntional family,,,not really a loss, lost membership in a magazine sales and publishing company, mmmm not really a loss, lost contact with all of the above, again no loss.

  Gained everything!

  Deluded Witnesses - View Themselves as Temporary " Alien Residents"

  when we were once jehovah's witnesses , and after we left jehovah's witnesses,this organization controls it's rank and file members to view themselves as " temporary residents" who are waiting for a better world to live in the future , and are told to not put too much faith or stock in this world because it has nothing to offer them .

  in this way the watchtower society controls the individual witnesses view of living towards the future, but not for today - in the real world.

  ways that the watchtower society does this is as follows .

  Weight watchers would have you replace the "candy" with real nutritional food. It can be just as tasty, (well maybe) but doesn't product the cycles of blood sugar that triggers more "need". Kinda like a drunk needing to hit bottom, before taking responsibility for his condition.

  Now it took me thirty years of obesity to finally face the fact that I needed the support of other people around me to deal with the cravings I had for certain foods. Now minus 45 pounds, the cravings are still there, but it triggers responses that I feel good about heeding.

  So, I've always thought one should use the Socratic method of asking loaded questions, and this is a good site to develop a list of them. Think about the many discussions on what "paradise" would really be like as an example. The absurdity of it becomes apparent rather quickly without having to propose anything but more questions..., which they hate by the way!!

  Heads Up A New Hall Is Coming in Los Angeles - Amharic Congregation

  as you all know i am still attending all meeting undercover with my family.

  well the new news around creshaw is that 6 of our brothers and sisters will be transfering to the new "amhari (ethopian) congregation" which will be near la high school.

  this new hall will start with about 26 members.

  The same sentiments are true for 50% of the population of Iran. Last night I attended gathering where the young man who spoke was a refugee from Iran. He regularly communicates by e-mail to many in his homeland and they are growing more and more disenchanted with the Theocracy that is horribly suppressive and violent. carmel

  i received an email from a good friend about oprah supporting this new movement.

  i sent it to my inactive hubby who responded with "wow, think it's true?

  " it's not the first time i hear opinions against her, but i guess anyone with that much power is going to have her share of critics.. throughts, opinions?.

  I think this is great. All the fundys with their nickers in a knot! Kinda like gay marriages are going to destory the institution of marriage! Now I can get a divorce and blame it on two lesbians in Portland who got married........

  helloooo people .

  i was under the impression that the witnesses didn't have any belief in an earthly class until 1935-ish.. and yet in 1925 (?

  ) they built beth sarim in san diego to house the faithful men of old when they returned to earth.

  Oh that El Al existed in 1925! Abraham and his ilk could have flown nonstop to New Jersey, hopped a flight right to down town LA.
