You're absolutely right Brentr. Last night I put the car in the garage, closed the door and left the car run while I slept in the back seat. All those phoney stories about it causing death are just made up. Everyone in their heart of hearts knows there is no such thing as carbon monoxide! See! I'm here typing this response as living proof that C0 poisoning is just a liberal hoax! caveman

The Seven Churches
by Pahpa inhere is a point to ponder:.
when john was instructed to write letters to the seven churches (rev.
1 - 3) as to "what is now and what will take place" (1:19) why were not the members of those bad churches advised "get out of her, my people?

There are other interpretations with justification that He was refering to the existing six major known religions of the world including, Hinudism, Buddhism, Sabianism, Judiasm, Zoroasterism, and Christian and the next one to come from the Arabian Prophet, Islam. Too many details to recount but there are texts one can refer to te see how the characteristics of each are described in John's brief letters that match those faiths.

CHANGE IN RESURRECTION DOCTRINE?
by Mary inok, this is from the january 1, 2007 craptower.
page 25 is the study article called "the first resurrection---now under way".
it's too boring to type all the stupidity written, but here's a brief synopsis of where they come up with the brainiac idea that the first resurrection occurred in 1918 onwards:.

So now instead of claiming to be one of the annointed, egomaniacs in the borg can claim to be one of the resurrected? Sounds perfectly plausable to me....

sending your kids to public school furthers the mission of the UN
by rebel8 ini was re-reading the un's universal declaration of human rightsfor another thread and came across this interesting tidbit:.
article 26.
(1) everyone has the right to education.

I didn't see any distinction in the UN statement between "education" and "home schooling". Both have the potential of positive or negative results. What is desired is educated masses that are tolerant of others, that's all! Read the part you didn't highlite!

Loving your religion as a way of life as much as a belief system
by Qcmbr inbefore i start this isn't a preach about the lds church!
i'm sitting here at work having been called in and thus missing sunday meetings and i feel an ache to be at church.
i sat musing on this and the thought came to me that i actually love my membership of my faith, i enjoy the people (for the most part), i am fulfilled by the lifestyle, i am disappointed when we don't 'win' (in statistical battles etc.. :) and i am generally satisfied by the doctrine and apologetics (i don't feel painted into too many untenable positions and i have more than satisfactory explanations for many of life's 'unanswerables').

I recall being a real zealot around nine or ten years old. I always did well on the tests we took monthly at the KH so got lots of Kudo's from adults. But once I started asking questions and pointing out discrepencies, the crap started and any emotional attachment began to wain. As I think about religion now, having left the borg, dwelt in agnosticism for over a decade then became a "believer" again, I am pretty detached from a lot of things that would normally emotionally hook a person. I enjoy a lively conversation about ideas and enjoy being part of a group of people that see themselves moving humanity forward in a subtle but positive way. Growth numbers are important to many in religions, but for me that is only a sign that they are insecure and need lots of "success" on the surface to authenticate they are on the "winning team". What I relish is seeing people move toward a way of life that is intellectually stimulating, socially rewarding so that both individually and collectively the belief system is working. I will never see the "golden age" but I am witnessing the process that is getting us there.
Such is life. We should all be able to love living.

Confession,
Any more the terms "liberal" and "conservative" in the political realm, have become pretty meaningless. Over my life time I've seen both parties grow government beyond any semblence of necessity. Fiscal responsibility has become a laughing stock by both Asses and Elephants. Both will use the race card, will fear monger, and lie through there teeth to gain and retain power. Neither has the book on morality, ethics or guile. What is presently associated with "liberals" a few decades ago would be unheard of. I'd say your ideas are closer to libertarian than liberal.b
I look back on the many hundreds of hours spent in Political Science classes and realize the American system is as corrupt as any other. It does its thing more subtly than others, but the end result is the same, get power by what ever means at hand and retain it as long as possible regardless what the consequences are to the body politic.

For me moving away from the position of thinking I was correct and everyone else was misled (JW think) to recognizing that the search for reality is a life long endeavor, plus enrolling in biological sciences led me to realize that what I think is real today may be different tomorrow. I have no right to think I have the final answer to the degree others are "too blind to see". We all evolve, not only in our material existence, but in our intellectual, social and spiritual reality. That said, no matter where I am on my personal journey, others are further along, have different perspectives and all are valuable regardless of who they are, what cultural trappings they are burdened with or what their world view is. I suspect that would be labeled "liberal" in that I am tolerant of others and welcome them into my circle of acquintances as a potential new friend. For this my life has been infinately more rewarding than thinking my cosmology was surperior to any other. Life is wonderful! carmel

Who will govern in the Kingdom?
by Perry injw's scoff at the biblical hope of christians, saying that they are egotistical to think they'll go to heaven and return with christ to rule over the earth.
the mantra is: "who will they rule over?
that doesn't make sense.

When we did the tree thing, we always either bought a live tree or dug one up and potted it so we wern't killing one. It's been several years though since we did the tree thing. No kids and too messy and too much work. Prefer to just do some purple lights and a wreath or something and spend more time doing other things. This year I'll be helping the Kiwanis Club sell trees for a fund raiser. carmel
