STRICKLY HYPOTHETICAL......
by agapa37 inthis question is a hypothetical one, posing a, what would you do type situation.
think back to the days of the bible kings for the nation of israel.
there were bad kings who took israel off track by their rule and some good kings who instituded changes that brought them back on track.

Wifey and I were out to diner with two other couples last Friday. The conversation about each of our origins was interesting. My friend who is a very successful manager grew up much like a military brat, only his father changed jobs every three or four years moving around Oregon managing salmon hatcheries. So he was always living in "company housing" and feeling abused. I mentioned that I grew up on a very small farm where I had my own goat herd, sold goat milk to earn money for school clothes in addtion to working in the hay fields in the summer. Our parents didn't believe in providing such to the younger ones (we were seven brothers) as long as there were hand-me-downs to be used. Consequently I and my next older brother had to wear stuff we hated or go earn some money to buy our own. At the diner table three of us sat on dynamite boxes as there was no money for proper chairs. We often went to the county garbage dump to rescue throw aways, anything from chairs to bent up bicycles, which we parted out and made our own. Your home looks pretty palacial compared to the single room house we lived in and the dumpy trailer houses we used as bedrooms. I remember when my father built a truck garage out of poles and we were allowed to use the second story as bedrooms. We were estatic to get out of the old damp rotten trailers and live off the ground in a real room. But you know, all that is just a challenge to the human spirit. One could lament at the hovel existence or regal in that the past is past and times are much better. I chuckle when my oldest two sons recall having to sleep in the same bedroom in highschool... while all their friends had their own private rooms. We are truely blessed that economic mobility is standard currency in America, well, for the most of it, that is. I love the idea that you've come so far but can look back and not be discouraged by things you had no control over. Live well and prosper! carmel

The Borg's Current Take On The King of the North
by Rapunzel inreading aleman's intelligent and erudite posts in regard to prophecies and other things biblical got me to thinking and prompted me to ask the following question - just what is the watchtower bible and tract society's current [as of this month, february 2008] interpretation on the identity of the wicked witch king of the north?
when i was in - many moons ago in the late 1970's - the king of the north was depicted, if my memory serves me correctly, as the soviet union.
but as the expression goes, s*** happens.

To Cross Or Not to Cross you be the judge!
by Hope4Others inas a solar-phallic symbol, i have no problems with it at all.
it symbolizes generation and regeneration... birth, life, death, rebirth... .
i have observed that many people wear crosses that have no religious identity.

What symbol would a Christian wear if he/she believed that it was Jesus's life and teachings that conveyed salvation, rather than His death? Curious minds what to know! carmel

Is This a Universal Characteristic of Religion?
by hamilcarr inthanks to all who participated in the moral values discussion, i think it was a 'high'-quality (wink at zico --- from 'the highest year') debate.
some posters rightly claimed i was too rash in my generalisations of religion and atheism.
so, i kept on searching for the universal characteristics of religion, i mean those features common to all forms of worship.

The Baha'i Faith promulgates the concept that individuals attaint their intended development (not the same idea as salvation) through working for the "salvation" of all of mankind. The term employed is "ever advancing civilization" as the collective future of humanity. So I guess personal "salvation" is not at issue, but the mutually reinforcing relationship between the individual and the society in which one lives is what is important. carmel
