Is the D/F law the most identifying mark that the WTS is a cult?

this doctrine/law is really troubling me.

i hated it when i was in and after examining it in my mind and speaking with current jw`s i am sure that it is an identifying mark of a cult.

i never really liked to call it a cult, even after i left, but the behaviour of jw`s in this area just bewilders me.

i agree the dfing is probaly understandable but didnt all the examples in the bible prodigal son, david, manassah, all were immediately forgivven, even the man in corinth was back within a few months, just look at the timing of pauls letters,

the shunning rule has ruined my life, for almost two years ive been torn between getting reinstated simply so my family can talk to me and also wanting nothing to do with it. i feel better now ive made the choice to completely stop going, but my family are saying that they have to pretend i have died and dont exist anymore coz im breaking their hearts!!!

the're old the're ill i wonder whether to go back tho it would ruin everything.

i remember this sister that used to come to the memorials, not sure where she was the rest of the time, that would partake of the offering.

i mean she would take a gulp of the vino and the bread and not one person said a thing.

how did they know they were a part of the super friends?

i went last time and a nutty sister took of the elblems while sobbing very loudly her daughter shouted at her not to do it and she shouted back 'i just have to'

since, ive heard that everyione thinks she a nutcase but noone can question her coz she reckons shes got the feeling!!! even elders have slagged her off which really they shouldnt do coz you never know the spirit may be telling her she is!!!!

how mad is it all,

i started a thread a couple of months ago about what is the reason the jws dont partake i know what they say but if you think about it its like they are saying no thanks to jesus after he died for us and told us to do it.

What keeps you from killing yourself?

every once in a while, the whole "futility of life" thing washes over me and something inside of me mentions the suicide option.

not that it's ever seriously considered, but one of the low-level accounting-types in my head quietly sends around a "worst-case scenario" memo that everyone reads, then dismisses.. after all, things always perk up.

"but," reminds the pessimistic little guy that should've been fired years ago, "they always go back down, too.

About half the DF's go back? Really?

i know some who went back and promptly faded, some who went back and were "bt" jws (barely there), a few who went back and quickly got df'd again usually before they even got privileges back.. but the one that takes the cake (in my opinion) is the former po of my parent's congregation who had been giving dc parts for years getting disfellowshipped a couple of months after giving the rousing talk, "abhor what is wicked, cling to what is good.

" only after his reinstatement did i discover that was his third df.

I'm dfed and so nearly went back, put one letter in but got refused, the only reason i ever would tho would be for family to stop their hurt, but i would leave again straight away,

but now i figure if i did that and left they would still be hurt, but then they could also come to my house anytime they wanted and hence i prob be dfed again!!!!

so yeah i guess brown is right.

no thanks jesus

i want to research into some of the jws teachings in the hope i can find something thatll eventually make my family listen to me, and something little toe said once got me thinking.. why dont the jws take the bread and wine?

i know why they say they dont but as little toe said jesus died for us and told us to take it its kind of like saying 'no thanks jesus im not bothered that you died for me'.

what do you guys think?

Does anybody know..if I disassociate myself, how will I be announced??

my husband and i have been out for well over a year now.

but we have not been dfd (because we have not done anything wrong) we just stopped attending.

our question is..if we go ahead and disassociate ourself, will they say at the meeting.."so and so has disassociated themselves", or rather will they say, "so and so is no longer a jehovahs witness"?

but if you do dissassociate yourselves you will be shunned, is that really what you want? would it not be easier to just leave it as it is, tho if you dont have anyone close in the religon i would say go for it, surely the more people leaving the more others will wonder why!!
