From MY experience with people who use "blessed" in their salutations I get two extremes in my head,an image of an much older, probably widowed woman, or a younger person who really is overly cheery. And those whose say it and are under 75 y.o. come across, in MY head, as none too bright.

"Have a blessed day" - How does that make you feel?
by wanderlustguy ini just returned a customer's phone call and heard that on the voice mail.
every now and then these come along, and i experience a few emotions or thoughts.
my thoughts and experiences, and yes i know everyone isn't like this and there are a lot of great, humble, christ serving people here and out there...this isn't directed at you:.

i know it's insanely expensive, has long lines and possibly, no, actually is quite obnoxious.

JWDaughter, it's up the hill from Broadway, you could probably take Republican until you hit 15th and turn right. It's kinda across the street and down from the QFC.

To add to Mulan's thought, Arabica beans (harder to grow/more expensive) used in specialty coffee have less caffeinne than Robusta (very hardy/easy to grow/cheaper/contributing to coffee crisis/ think Foldger's) beans.

I know some shops employ the local college girls for their sex appeal rather than any ability to pull a decent shot of 'spro. A sell-the-sizzle-not-the-steak approach. We are average looking folks, a little wierd and eclectic, lots of tattoos and piercings but not a swimsuit model among the lot of us.
I would rather be known for my coffee and my customer service than for cuties behind the bar. This is what you can expect from my shop;
To be greeted when you walk in the door.
A clean shop.
Friendly and geuinely helpful staff.
Coffees that are no more than 9-12 days from it's roast date. Espresso that is roasted by a regionally well known roaster and is paid for at a rate higher than fair trade.
Well-trained baristas who can adjust the grind of the espresso to compensate for heat, humidity, and other variables-unlike Starbucks superauto machines. Micro-foam and latte art and an overall pleasing experience.
After you've come in a few times you will be greeted by name, asked if you want your usual and we will treat you more as a friend than a customer. -

As a professional barista, I have to acknowlege Starbuck's for bringing coffeehouse culture into the mainstream but their coffee is not good, it's their marketing that kicks a$$.
Despite the fancy packaging it's old. Look at the expiration date on any package of Starbucks beans, it's sometime in the next 6-18months.
To get the best pricing they buy all the beans they can and as a result they have to over roast to get a consistant product, which is part of their appeal; the same cup, the same atmosphere, the same experience everywhere in the world.
I will drop in to a 'bucks if that's where people want to go but I get the sweetest, most whipped cream thing I can get. -

My 21 y.o. son was up visiting for Thanksgiving and he's just gotten into knitting. I think it's cool.

This is the only place I don't feel ugly
by Abandoned ini want to thank everyone here for all the help and kind words offered to me as i adjust to having worth.
i guess i have a long way to go and i guess i'm going to have to go and see a counselor like someone else suggested.. no matter how hard i work or what i accomplish, i still feel so ugly and i'm still afraid of the stupidest things.
i don't know if my fears are on par with paranoia, but they are definitely distracting and i need to get some outside assistance.. the good news is that around here, with people who've gone through the same, i feel better.

It's a hard bunch of feelings to work through, I know, I have felt like a hideous freak my entire life and the years of being told from the kingdom hall's lectern that I was unworthy and lacking didn't help.
I never sought outside help, I have slowly come to grips with my physical appearance and mental competancy and realized I'm okay. -

Just woke up from a nap. TV is on in the background. Looking for good prices on the things I am planning to buy for Christmas. Drinking tea and nibbling on a cornmeal-date biscotti.
