Why do so many on here quote the WT and Awake when Witnesses hardly ever read them?
by BonaFide inreally people, most witnesses do not read the magazines.
i can say that because i go to the meetings, i go in service, i have been a witness all my life.
i have been in english, spanish, and sign language congregations.

"So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come? These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet?...This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses....Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it," (Watchtower, Apr. 1, 1972, p. 197).
(apologies if already posted - I suspect it has, lol)

rebel8 - voluntary charity workers (UK) claim expenses - as while we donate our 'time' free, out of pocket expenses, eg petrol, are covered by charity donations. It's always concerned me that the WT wants the charity status, yet not the liability.

Regarding Elders Snooping On Facebook, MySpace & Other Sites
by minimus ini was reading the thread of how an elder parent was snooping on his daughter's facebook.. i believe that many jws, not just elders probably snoop around to see what some witnesses are doing, whether they be inactive, disassociated or active.. do you think jws "snoop" on the internet or if they have access to your computer, do you think they'll try to uncover something about you?.

I don't 'do' any social networking sites, but I believe you can set options so just your 'friends' can see (eg, your pictures) ?

Our Paradise Lost
by MidwichCuckoo indon't know if i'm posting this on correct forum, but has anyone else received an email enititled 'watchtower!
' - i have zero idea how they obtained my email address, as i've only subscribed to ex-jw sites (even then, my email address would only be available to admin?
)- this and one other - (and this appears to be pro, indeed casting aspersions on 'conference call')?.

Would the GB have the guts for a "Coal Test"?
by wobble ini wonder with all the problems of a fiscal nature that are besetting the wtb$ if the g.b would have the courage to call for a test like booze ratherfrauds "coal test",where he said that if they couldn't get any then jehovah didn't want them back in brooklyn.. surely the almighty god who owns everything in the universe could show his support for them in the 21st.
centuary by sending them a few tons of cash, like da judge got his coal?.
love.

Hmmm - I see your point. The WTBTS may have the assets, but doesn't want to 'pay for itself'? (let's face it - with the 'end so near - yet again - they could take the view that Jehovah provided for them by amounting assets knowing they'd be needed at a future date?)
As a JW, I'd have been gobsmacked to discover how much property the WT holds - yet current JWs (in my experience) believe they only own printing presses, which are necessary.

They don't ''NEED'' the cash, they just ''WANT'' it - in my very humble opinion.

The latter!!! And it seems that's all they are doing these days, and probably the Org is pre-empting them about upcoming scandals. A few years back, had a couple of JWs call on me, and I think I was going to mention the hypocrisy over the UN NGO issue (which I later did, in fact handing them a print out of UN agreement which I'd prepared for such an encounter), and they guessed the 'hypocrisy' I was about to mention was about child abuse, cutting me dead, saying something like ''we know all about the child abuse in the Society'' and waffled on about it 'being sorted', 'imperfection' 'lies' etc - but they seemed PLEASED that they mentioned it before I had chance to (don't you see how Jehovah prepares his people?)

Pagan Decorations Allowed in Society's Buildings?
by compound complex inin search of christian freedom, ray franz, pages 274, 275.. .
i recall that when the watch tower society purchased a former motion picture theatre in queens, new york, for use as an assembly hall, the theatre had an ancient egyptian motif throughout.
over the marquee, the front of the building had large tiles depicting various egyptian gods and goddesses, one even carrying the crux ansata.

I'm assuming the Bossert Hotel was a 'good buy' - standards/beliefs can always be adjusted for a bargain, lol.
