I always assumed the ark 'floated' willy nilly with no direction (oh, the irony) - until it came to rest.

Do english JWs miss having a thanksgiving even though only people in america celebrate it?..
Nope - when I was a child I wasn't even aware of 'Thanksgiving', and I bet most English kids today only have a vague understanding, if any (it has nothing to do with our culture - just as the Americans/rest of World are totally indifferent to our 'Guy Fawkes' night), yet I was surrounded by kids celebrating Christmas (which is 'hammered' into kids from October onwards via TV etc) and birthdays - both of which are part of ENGLISH culture. Outlaw - the one thing I do recall, is being denied Easter eggs, and I was given money in lieu of. I would sometimes buy myself an egg so as I really wanted one.

When I read stuff like this, it makes me think they know EXACTLY what they're doing
by Mickey mouse inthis article must have passed me by before (taken from the "jws and shrinks" thread).
now i understand the mechanics of cult mind control, i can see precisely why they make the statements highlighted in bold.
it does make me question whether the governing body are cognizant of their use of mind control.

"...many others with no professional qualifications practice without supervision as counselors or therapists.
Just as Elders 'counsel' with no formal/professional qualifications? Yet JWs find this perfectly acceptable...the WT claims to hold the remedy for 'depression', yet counting all the people I know/have known who have suffered/do suffer from any kind of 'mental illness', the JWs FAR outweigh the non-JWs.

[Allow for response]. Then ignore.
by AlphaOmega ini haven't read any jw stuff for some time now, but this morning i found an electronic copy of the current "our kingdom ministry" in my e-mail.
i had a quick flick through and realised how rude the "doorstep suggestions" are.

Hardly surprising. The Cult is based on 'parrot-fashion' questions, answers and statements. They only 'hear' the responses they're taught to hear, everything else is ignored, blocked out and dismissed.
I always wondered what the point of the Ministry School was (ok, I can understand the benefit of youngters - male only, of course - doing Bible readings), as a sister giving a 'demonstration' also writes the script for the householder....helloooo, when does this ever happen in real life? What's the point?

Hello Jotace...WELCOME
Edited to add - you may want a spend a few hours going through the 'Best Of' section on this forum. Personally, the UN NGO fiasco left me gobsmacked...

how did you feel when you shunned disfellowshipped ones?
by looloo ini am trying to get in the mindset of my jw inlaws and trying to understand how they can shun my hub (their bro and son ) and not come to visit my 5 year old child (grandchild and neice) i dont think i blame them as individuals but i feel real mad with the ones who must make them feel guilty for bothering with us in the past but can longer do so in good conscience .
i never was a jw but how did some of you cope with the shunning thing and did you feel bad ?.

As a JW, I was only ever once in a position (that I recall) with a d'fed person. I was at the KH, and the d'fed was sitting at back (naughty step, lol) and after the Meeting (it was the Memorial) I made a point of going to speak to them (despite glowering looks from the Elders). I never did, or would, shun. It's unnatural, and I think it says a lot about a person who can actually do such a thing...currently I have only one JW who shuns me (long story - maybe I'll post it one day), at first I felt angry, now I just feel he's a total n*b and makes himself look an idiot.
looloo, I PMd you last week

Anyone have a good Meeting for Field Service story?
by BonaFide inoh, yes those wonderful meetings for service.
for some reason, they are so long and disorganized and boring.
seems no one wants to get out there in the territory.. i remember in one hall when i was a teenager, a ministerial servant, about 50 years old, would conduct the midweek meeting for service at the kh at 9 am.

renaiii - The enjoyment of actually preaching about the God you love and believe in
Just think how much more enjoyment you could get preaching if you weren't spending so much time getting enjoyment from being here - which you obviously prefer. I find JWs are hypocrites when it comes to preaching - they'd rather be doing something else - even flirting with apostates is better than preaching.

My experience with the Bethel Legal Dept. regarding a Ministerial Servant molesting a boy
by BonaFide inthe experience that follows contains some details that some might find graphic.
so be warned.. the body of elders received word that an unmarried ministerial servant, age 20, had been seen fondling a younger male bible student, age 14. the ministerial servant himself had been studying with the boy.
the ministerial servant was a quiet, timid brother.

He very obviously had a questionaire on his desk, we could tell he was reading the questions he was asking us.
Which sounds as though it isn't an uncommon occurence if they're that prepared for it.
Then they made sure what State we were in. We told them again, California. They told us we had to contact the Police to make a report
I realise there are different Laws for different States - so I'm thinking that the advice would be different had it been a different State, ie - not obliged to inform police..?
