yeah so the memorial is getting closer.. and even though my mum knows i am not attending the meetings, she keeps staying i should at least attend the memorial.... coz it's like special.. no idea how to get myself out of it.
everytime she brings up the topic over the phone, i just mumble and say stuff like, yeah but i finish work late... i dunno where the kh is out here etc etc.
i don't know why jws treat the memorial like it's christmas.
They dont make it seem special: they don't take the day off, they don't give presents, they don't send cards, they don't have parties of celebration (potlucks are out - I went to one after a memorial when I was a child) ...some special day of celebration.
That's a good point Mrs Jones, I hadn't thought of that. You'd think that as it's the most important day of the year, more effort would be made to celebrate the event.

I think we all desire 'Reality'...the idea of 'eternity' (at least on Earth) is somewhat an adult JW fantasy. How many times have we heard how they'll all be assisting each other to build etc? All the work they are prepared to do? - yet in this life (the real one) they hardly ever help each other or anyone else. It's escapism.
Actually, they want it both ways. On one hand they're suggesting it's his conscience - and as these crimes were committed before Baptism, then basically they don't really count in WT terms. But, they also have said that he can't hold privileges, so he is being 'penalised' for his pre-Baptism 'sins'. Do they actually know what they're whittering on about..?
He doesn't qualify for any extra privileges in the congregation? I bet he has any privilileges he wants.
ok so i travelled home last weekend to break the news to my mum about my engagement to a 'wordly' man.. to be honest, i chickened out and instead of confronting her face to face, i decided to write a long letter to her about it.. we have never really got on and she has a knack for getting on my nerves.
she was very emotionally abusive throughout my childhood (and can still be).
i guess she had her reasons although it doesn't excuse the behaviour.. anyway i tried to be as diplomatic as possible.

back in september of 08 my mom died, and both of my parents had been jw's since 1978.. in the mid 80's they moved down south to retire.
and she was the type of person who remembered everyones anniversary, if someone got .
sick, or died she would send a card, flowers, to the family or call.. even years after they moved away !.
Sadly I think this is 'normal' JW behaviour, because they only feign Love amongst themselves - 'come back and we will pretend we care' - because (pretence at) Love and support is conditional on you being in the KH. I also think this attitude relieves members of any 'charitable' involvement. It sounds like your Mum was a genuine caring lady, Lance.
this is prompted by barbara's new article at freeminds and a message someone sent to my youtube account a month ago.. there are rumours that there will be "new light" this year about blood transfusions.
if this happens, i for one will be speaking up and asking who is accountable for all the lives lost due to the wt's death dealing policy.

They were edging towards a change when they allowed the option of blood fractions. Practically, this could be whole blood (i.e. all the fractions), but JWs can't see it. As one told me (about this change), 'The Bible hasn't changed, but Science has'... I don't understand that, but to be honest, I don't believe they knew what they were talking about either, which is the norm for the majority of JWs (they just seem to repeat any garbled 'excuse' for changes in doctrine). If whole blood is separated and then administered, a JW will see it as allowable blood fractions (even if it's all the fractions) and not whole blood. I mentioned on a (old) thread, that perhaps the WT will 'get around' the blood issue by allowing a transfusion of whole blood IF something is added (eg. saline) which JWs would easily accept as not being whole blood (as it has an addition)
i went to the meeting yesterday and found it to be a sad experience.
(i've been fading over the years and down to 2 meetings per month).
i looked around and found that there are no new members.just family members and friends.
I always thought how dreary and depressing 'Kingdom' songs are compared to 'Christendom's' Hymns, which always seem to be sung with passion in Church. 'Kingdom' songs are by far inferior, but then isn't everything the WT produces..? LongHairedGirl - Yes - I think some JWs have tried to gain converts by offering practical assistance to the vulnerable...just another ploy.. none of what they do is 'spreading the Good News', it's just manipulation and salestalk (Theocratic Ministry School ?)
if the witnesses follow the old law of "not eating blood" (even though the bible is pertaining to animal blood) then why do they not adhere to the command to avoid fat?
in leviticus 3:17 it states: 'this is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live: you must not eat any fat or any blood.'".
there is fat in almost every meat we eat.
...a tad off-topic, but why don't JWs insist on Kosher/Halal meat, as it is more inline with WT doctrine here. I would also have thought it would be beneficial for the WT to insist on a gradual change toward vegitarianism, as it seems accepted that in the 'New Order' (wow, that expression ages me) we won't eat meat (as indeed we/animals didn't originally). This would reinforce in members that Armaggedon is close and faithful JWs are being prepared for a new lifestyle.
