I can be 'true to myself'. I don't have to consider what JWs think of me anymore (I was judged unfairly enough when I was one, falsely accused of wrongdoing). I don't have to think twice about something - stopping to consider if something is 'approved by the 'Society'. I AM true to myself. I'm not a hypocrite and have no fear of what a mindless cult can threaten me with.

) and it seems as we were talking the thought came up that many of us when exiting the mind control of jehovah's witnesses we really come to appreciate the freedom to think how we want and be able to have access to other views which helps us to have a broader scope , or broader world view than just the tunnel vision of the wt society.

I'm going poo-less
by rebel8 inno, this is not my annual march colon cancer awareness thread!*.
a certain poo-less poster here has inspired me to stop using shampoo.. according to various hippie types, shampoo forces your scalp to produce extra oils and it takes a while to adjust.
sudsing detergents are bad for the environment too.. plus they have carcinogens and flying spaghetti monster knows i don't need any more of those.. so....have you gone poo-less?.

I try not to wash my hair daily, oils and all that. Years ago I saw a programme where a woman tied her hair up (hidden in a scarf/wrap) for a month and when she took scarf (or whatever) off, her hair was perfect...no washing needed as hair is self cleaning as the oils nourish etc... ...so, I thought brilliant idea. I did same. Hair totally wrapped up for 30 days...after which time, took wrap off, and guess what..? Hair stuck to head like I'd had a chip pan on it.

JW christmas is just round the corner... ugh!
by MisfitMeL inyeah so the memorial is getting closer.. and even though my mum knows i am not attending the meetings, she keeps staying i should at least attend the memorial.... coz it's like special.. no idea how to get myself out of it.
everytime she brings up the topic over the phone, i just mumble and say stuff like, yeah but i finish work late... i dunno where the kh is out here etc etc.
i don't know why jws treat the memorial like it's christmas.

They dont make it seem special: they don't take the day off, they don't give presents, they don't send cards, they don't have parties of celebration (potlucks are out - I went to one after a memorial when I was a child) ...some special day of celebration.
That's a good point Mrs Jones, I hadn't thought of that. You'd think that as it's the most important day of the year, more effort would be made to celebrate the event.

I think we all desire 'Reality'...the idea of 'eternity' (at least on Earth) is somewhat an adult JW fantasy. How many times have we heard how they'll all be assisting each other to build etc? All the work they are prepared to do? - yet in this life (the real one) they hardly ever help each other or anyone else. It's escapism.

Actually, they want it both ways. On one hand they're suggesting it's his conscience - and as these crimes were committed before Baptism, then basically they don't really count in WT terms. But, they also have said that he can't hold privileges, so he is being 'penalised' for his pre-Baptism 'sins'. Do they actually know what they're whittering on about..?

I can't help but feel bad about it all.
by MisfitMeL inok so i travelled home last weekend to break the news to my mum about my engagement to a 'wordly' man.. to be honest, i chickened out and instead of confronting her face to face, i decided to write a long letter to her about it.. we have never really got on and she has a knack for getting on my nerves.
she was very emotionally abusive throughout my childhood (and can still be).
i guess she had her reasons although it doesn't excuse the behaviour.. anyway i tried to be as diplomatic as possible.

by lancelink inback in september of 08 my mom died, and both of my parents had been jw's since 1978.. in the mid 80's they moved down south to retire.
and she was the type of person who remembered everyones anniversary, if someone got .
sick, or died she would send a card, flowers, to the family or call.. even years after they moved away !.

Sadly I think this is 'normal' JW behaviour, because they only feign Love amongst themselves - 'come back and we will pretend we care' - because (pretence at) Love and support is conditional on you being in the KH. I also think this attitude relieves members of any 'charitable' involvement. It sounds like your Mum was a genuine caring lady, Lance.

New light on blood?
by Mickey mouse inthis is prompted by barbara's new article at freeminds and a message someone sent to my youtube account a month ago.. there are rumours that there will be "new light" this year about blood transfusions.
if this happens, i for one will be speaking up and asking who is accountable for all the lives lost due to the wt's death dealing policy.
this is an opportunity for all those who still have some connections with jws to make people think..

They were edging towards a change when they allowed the option of blood fractions. Practically, this could be whole blood (i.e. all the fractions), but JWs can't see it. As one told me (about this change), 'The Bible hasn't changed, but Science has'... I don't understand that, but to be honest, I don't believe they knew what they were talking about either, which is the norm for the majority of JWs (they just seem to repeat any garbled 'excuse' for changes in doctrine). If whole blood is separated and then administered, a JW will see it as allowable blood fractions (even if it's all the fractions) and not whole blood. I mentioned on a (old) thread, that perhaps the WT will 'get around' the blood issue by allowing a transfusion of whole blood IF something is added (eg. saline) which JWs would easily accept as not being whole blood (as it has an addition)
