Well, the rank and file do not seem to have a "sense of urgency" so the GB encourages them to get one.
...and the GB's sense of urgency? Checking the share prices?
over the last few years, it is apparent that there is a "sense of urgency.

In all this ''urgency'', while the Rank and File were giving their 'all' for the Society (giving up material comforts and even SELLING their properties - which they wouldn't need - in order to spread God's Word), the Society ITSELF were BUYING up peroperties and making investments. Got their fingers in everything material. Hypocrites.
Can anyone tell me WHY the Daniel Book is being studied again? (surely some/most of it is outdated thinking?) - I'm sure I remember studying it YEARS ago.
.
we talked about jehovah's name being important and it was explained that jehovah is a form of yahweh, just as people names may be spelled differently, so jehovah is how some people spell yahweh.. we had quotes from daniel and deuteromony?.
we also got round to judges 1;8,21.. they said that the reason that it says the men of judah took jerusalem near the beginning of judges is because in a newspaper, the journalists emphasizes a certain part of the story.. the events in judges 1;8 may have happened during the `split' between israel and judah.. jerusalem was like gibeon, surroundering to the israelites, only later it became apostate.. .
OK, Evilforce, I'm going in - cover me.lol....
There is a lot of information on the Web about God's name. For example :-
http://www.seekwhatistruth.com/hisname.htm
The form ?Jehovah? is of late medieval origin; it is a combination of the consonants of the Divine Name and the vowels attached to it by the Masoretes but belonging to an entirely different word. The sound of Y is represented by J and the sound of W by V, as in Latin. For two reasons the Committee has returned to the more familiar usage of the King James Version: (1) the word ?Jehovah? does not accurately represent any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew; and (2) the use of any proper name for the one and only God, as though there were other gods from whom He had to be distinguished, was discontinued in Judaism before the Christian era and is entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church.
The tetragrammaton ceased to be used several hundred years BC. Rabbis today forbid the verbalisation of God's name as the correct pronounciation has been lost (yet the NEAREST would be ''Yahweh'), and attempting to would result in blaspheming. From this, I personally believe (and I hope I am not offending anyone), the name ''Jehovah'' is a bastardisation of God's name.
From a personal point (and I felt this as a JW) I don't understand why I NEED/SHOULD address my Heavenly father by His personal name - as I certainly wouldn't my EARTHLY father as this would be disrespectful.
can anyone refute or confirm the rumour that flagging fashion clothing company 'next' has brokered a lucrative deal with the uk org to outfit the fs foot soldiers ?
word on the rialto is that it was a close run thing between 'next' and 'fcuk' - the latter having fallen at the last hurdle only because of the org's general disbelief in the level of literacy of their intended audience.
in the city, 'next' shares are tipped to rise - if only on the basis that, should the deal go through, the company believe they will have additional free advertising in dubs mags as the word 'next' appears so often.
Lol - you mean Next could 'sponsor' JW. Out on the Ministry work, dubs could wear T Shirts with :-
So, never be anxious about the NEXT day, for the NEXT day will have its own anxieties." (Matthew 6:31-34)
Brilliant idea - you're giving them ideas though!
bear with me.
over the years jw have always strived after/prophesied (even though they deny this) a carrot ''date''.
as dates come and go, we hear about ''new light'', but according to the wt :-a new view of truth never can contradict a former truth.
Hello Acadian - just seen your rsponse, thanks and WELCOME . ''New Light'' is supposed to enhance the old light, not change it (according to WT) - I never considered myself to be stupid, but I could never put together the WT logic (now THERE'S an oxymoron).......but then I'm not very good at following films either - you know the ones, fantastic intricate plots which chop and change till the viewer gets bored?
ArtfulDodger - what are you drinking, and can I have some please? I don't think the boys in Juraszic Park need any more encouragement - I often wonder if (because of their age) they forget what they're doing - studying the Scriptures or filling in the 'Times' crossword (trying to look up the clues in an old WT). We could one day be prophesying what they were doing in their lunch break
freqently when witnessing to witnesses they claim that the 1925 predictions were only a probability and not a certainty.
however review of the original material proves other wise apperently in the watchtower, october 1, 1984, p. 24 there is an admission the rutherford made a fool of himself with these predictions.
does anyone have a jpg scan of the watchtower, october 1, 1984, p. 24 that they could post.
w84 10/1 p. 24 ?Jehovah Has Dealt Rewardingly With Me? How I enjoyed music! Being able to devote my full time to it was rewarding indeed. While serving on Staten Island, I also had the rare privilege of getting better acquainted with J. F. Rutherford, who was then president of the Watch Tower Society. This was because he spent half of each week there, as those peaceful surroundings were most favorable for writing?and what a lot of that he did!Brother Rutherford was like an understanding and loving father to me, even though he repeatedly had occasion to reprove me for breaking some rule. I especially remember one time when he gave me a blunt reproof. The next time he saw me, he cheerily said, "Hello Karl!" But because of still feeling hurt, I just muttered a greeting. He countered, "Karl, watch out! The Devil?s after you!" Embarrassed, I replied, "Oh, there?s nothing, Brother Rutherford." But he knew better, and so repeated his warning, "That?s all right. Just watch out. The Devil?s after you." How right he was! When we harbor resentment against a brother, especially for saying something he has a right to say in the line of duty, we leave ourselves open to the Devil?s snares.?Ephesians 4:25-27.
Once, due to some misunderstanding, it was wrongly reported to Brother Rutherford that I had made a very critical remark about him. However, rather than becoming indignant, he remarked: "Well, Karl talks a lot, and he says things he doesn?t mean." What a fine example for all of us, in case we hear someone saying uncomplimentary things about us! Yes, Brother Rutherford was bighearted and very understanding. He showed this to me on the one hand by repeatedly making exceptions in my case when unusual circumstances seemed to merit his doing so, and on the other hand by apologizing on more than one occasion when he had thoughtlessly caused me some hurt (*FOOTNOTE). It might be added that Brother Rutherford?s prayers at morning worship also endeared him to me. Though he had such a powerful voice, when addressing God he sounded just like a little boy talking to his daddy. What a fine relationship with Jehovah that revealed! To have a man of such spiritual stature taking the lead was faith strengthening to me, and I felt that this was just as it should be in Jehovah?s organization.

Regarding his misguided statements as to what we could expect in 1925, he once confessed to us at Bethel, "I made an ass of myself."
this has always been a personal thorn in my side for years upon years.
let's say that your meetings took place on monday-wednesday and that other congregations had the tuesday-thursday slot.
let's also assume that you just happened to go to the mon-wed meetings due to personal circumstances and that tue-thur meetings were not possible.. now here comes da man on his bi-yearly visit.
Maybe I'm being cynical (after all, it would make sense for the visit to coincide with the regular, already established, meeting times), but maybe it's all about psychology - Conformity and Obedience.
what are some stupid analogies that you here dubs use all the time to explain their faulty, destructing teachings?
or maybe ones you've used in the past that when you think about them now, make you cringe?.
here are a few that come to mind:.
The persistent phrase I hear is how great it is to be persecuted (and JW's being the MOST persecuted in the WORLD) and hated (just as Jesus was) because that PROVES we have the Truth.
i have only to turn into any road or street and if there are any jws operating within my area of vision i can pick them out.. it may only be something that occurs in uk but they actually walk at half speed.
yet if i see any local jw in the town shopping they fly along, except the very old ones.
we are in the end of the end time.
I am almost sure I saw a couple actually walking backwards a few weeks ago..honest.
LOL Helios. I was actually thinking of waiting outside the KH (I'm guessing they must meet there to go on the 'Service' at wekends) and follow a depressed-looking one (wow - that should be a tough CHOICE!) just to see HOW many 'calls' they cover and how long it takes. We could plot a chart.
just curious... we had a poll here in the uk as to who was the most famous brit of all time.
i was so underwhelmed that i can't remember who even won it.
it wasn't churchill, that's for sure.
There's SOOOOOOOOO many :-
The Late Queen Mother has to be up there on the list - and maybe Henry VIII (for giving us the CofE). Shakespeare (without him, Stratford would be without tourists!)......and my personal favourite, Agatha Christie!
