1988 "Insight on the Scriptures", that New Light reference?

over at freeminds, an article describes the 1988 release of insight on the scriptures.. .

"an attractive new bible dictionary has been released this year by the watchtower bible & tract society called insight on the scriptures, in two volumes, which is designed to replace the former bible dictionary (1969, 1971) entitled aid to bible understanding.

while much of the text of this new publication has been taken verbatim from the aid book, there are several new features to take note of: (1) larger, more readable type, (2) full color illustrations, (3) an index at the end of vol.

I don't remember having to deal with but one flip-flop when I was a JW from 1977 and earlier -- that was the Superior Authorities issue. It was enough to cause one to think since a flip-flop, when you think about it, is a contradiction of major proportion. And contradictions of other religious groups are part of what fed our zeal when we went out in service. Generally, we only had that one, Superior Authorities, to soil our dirty linen.

One Circuit Overseer told us it was all about our vision, that we should imagine that we're all traveling on a train where the Faithful Slave provides us with only the side windows to look through. "It's beautiful, isn't it? You're not able to look back or ahead yet you're happy with what you are seeing."

He continued, "Looking backward at old teachings should be avoided as we continue our journey -- that's old light anyway. And there's certainly no reason to want to run ahead since there's plenty of countryside to look at while we pass it."

For some reason that never gave me the warm fuzzy feeling about WT teaching reversals.

Skeptical JWs (interpret that to mean virtually all JWs) may somewhat appreciate this.

If there is a favorite WT quotation within it is this one: "However, it may have seemed to some as though that path has not always gone straight forward. At times explanations given by Jehovah’s visible organization have shown adjustments, seemingly to previous points of view. But this has not actually been the case." The Watchtower, 1981, 12/1 p. 27

Inkling: Not quite... "Folic acid" is a sub-set of "enriched flour". That's why it is in (brackets) The final ")" is right after acid, like: acid)

Ah, the parentheses! How did I miss them along with the brackets?

Potential: The other deal is that many products labeled "no trans-fats" may actually contain trans-fats, if they are 1% or less.

Are you sure on that one? I'd suspect the value must be less than 0.5% in order to claim 0%. Just a suspicion of math rounding, mind you.

Ha! If I'm reading this correctly (ingredients are listed in order of quantity?), then there is more Folic Acid than Whole Wheat Flour. What's your take?

Nope -- apparently that 2005 quotation at the top of this thread is invalidated with the following, also a 2005 quotation:

The fact that we have some 60,000 members and only a few hundred that actually post on a regular basis suggests that most simply lurk. There may be extreme fear by some of losing their anonymity -- some, just plain afraid of doing something they've never done before.
