He is a nice guy. Too bad he is still deceived by the Watchtower.
Ah, yes, Honesty. We have talked about this topic, you and I. I hope things are going well in your part of Tennessee.

i just wrote to a former friend and current elder.
i'd like him to check out one of my jwd postings.
i suspect, since we haven't seen each other in some 35 years, he'll do it out of curiosity.

Allen,
I’ve thought of you lately and it reminded me of a quote I saw on the internet awhile back:
"Allen Bridgeman was truly one of the nicest and most caring witnesses I ever met ..."
If you have a computer you may want to look it up.
Take care,
Lenny

My point here is how Tinyurl.com can reduce any URL to one that is not recognizable by looking at it, not until you actually click on the link. You may want to try it.

.
is the growth of the organization that slow that now we have to go out and invite people to come to the district conventions?.
or is it that just not enough jw's are attending?
skeptical!
you taught me how to trust no religion and to challenge them all about their doctrines and teachings.
i learned for 21 years how to do this and i did it well, according to your standard.
Some great thoughts here:
Their own insistance in the search for truth and not just accepting brought me into the org and took me right out. Drew
... certain householders would not take the magazines but would voice respect for the fact you were motivated enough to go out and preach? That respect was always missing from the JW's toward other religions. Terry
It was as if sincerity and devotion on the part of others was something to be pitied and sneered at. Terry
A Witness to the carnage a small-minded religion run by small-minded men can inflict on innocent people. Parakeet

It finally occurred to me that I needed to ask you a few questions;
It took me awhile, dense that I am at times, but I finally learned that you have two faces when it comes to such questions.
When such questions are directed the other way, one face looks happy and friendly and hospitable. When redirected toward you, however, a second face suddenly appears and it turns suspicious and angry.
Thank you, Watchtower, for one of life’s important lessons.

any arkansasians here?
if you live near perryville pm me.
thanks
Hmmm ... never knew where Perryville was till moments ago. We drive close by on our occasional trip to Bentonville to see family.
If you're down near Locust Bayou drop in. Wife usually has beans and cornbread ready to heat up. I always have chardonnay ready to pour.
A PM in advance will assure that we'll be home.

in my internet browsing i've seldom come across expressions of non-jw's fearing contact with jw's -- as if the jw beliefs would rub off on us, or contaminate us.
on the other hand, during my years-ago meeting attendance and reading of the wt publications this seemed to be a perpetual theme -- be on guard, watch your faith.
it was as if one week away from the meetings would place an irrepairable dent in the witness armour.
Well stated, Parakeet.
The WTS knows what it's doing when it forbids JWs to listen to apostates--a free interchange of ideas is deadly to thought control tactics.
I have a favorite quotation, in line with that good thought of yours:
The passion for freedom of the mind is strong and everlasting, which is fortunate, because so is the passion to squelch it. A.M. Rosenthal, N.Y. Times

If their faith is so strong, why all the paranoia?
Do you fear the JW's now as much as you feared the apostates when you were a JW?
Fats
i thought this might be interesting.
if it's been talked about before, i apologize in advance.
what differences do you think exist between the two?
I was DF'd for apostasy. I learned it from my kids. There were three incidents that I can think of that sealed the deal.
I learned that all three somehow got word to the local powers. The JC called me to ask if I would meet with them. I said no.
Based on those experiences I submit that 99% of ex JW's fit into the same mold.
Say a friend or a work acquaintence or a schoolmate or a bowling buddy -- asks, "Weren't you one of Jehovah's Witnesses not long ago?"
"Yes, I was but not any more."
"How come?".
From there, I seriously doubt that many come back with, "Yes, you're correct. I was one of them, it is the truth, but I'm just too weak to do what's required."
By the way, I hate the term apostate -- it's their term. I love the comeback mentioned earlier in this thread that most of JW's, by accepted general definitions, are apostates of some prior church.

an suv full of jw's pulled into my country home driveway and a woman and her pre-teen son came to the door.
i greeted them with a warm smile, wondering to myself if they knew who i was.
i doubt they did as they presented me with the single sheet invitation to the little rock district assembly to be held july 14-16. .
Where is the assembly going to be held in LR? They used to be at Barton Colliseum, at the State Fair Grounds. It might be interesting to go and "have some fun." At least print up some of Richie's donation "money" to give to them.
Yes, Barton's. And that would be fun using that Photoshop money.
Good story, Gary. We'll always wonder what happened to ones who chicken out from the return visit. Probably lurking here, who knows.
