I went to work in Spain and managed to get found by a local witness, she was really lovely so I reluctantly agreed to a study, but you know what, she and the congregation were some of the most warmest, kindest people I have ever met, they barely knew me but they invited me out to the beach with the entire congregation for a picnic, one time we went to play football and then all went to lunch at a restaurant, they paid for me, then when it was time for me to leave the area (I was a travelling sales rep) they actually offered, practically begged to put me up and find me a new job, such nice people, I never met a British witness who was so kind.

Meeting JWs in other regions or countries
by greendawn inwhen you were a jw what sort of experiences did you have with other non local jws that you met for the first time perhaps in other regions or countries?
was there a real sense of brotherhood?
when we went to brussels in 1980 jws there put us up in their houses, they picked us up at the bus station and during free time they showed us around their city.

how long did you hang on to the language?
by carla ini have noticed some who have recently left still hang on to 'unique' language of the society.
how long did it take you stop using the buzz words and things like brother, sister, jah, and many others?
and do you still recognize the word jehovah as a word for god?

"The truth" is also the most arrogant phrase I can think of, how do you think they would react if catholics went around calling themselves "The truth".

It really irritates me when I hear a witness useing the language, especially if they do it infront of a non witness, however, here on this board I quite often use it myself because its just easier, you lot know what I mean without me having to go round the houses, eg, its easier to say Kingdom Hall than JW church.

Do you communicate a lot through the internet?
by greendawn indo you find that you are using the powrful internet technology to improve your social dimension to contact other people to get to know them and exchange information eg by using instant messengers with audio visual contact (webcams)or just with the plain old e-mails?
.
such information technology and the internet connection itself are getting cheaper and better all the time, and instant messengers with a microphone can be used as a telephone free of any charges.

Yes, I rarely use my phone these days, just chat to my friends on msn or send text messages via a free sms internet site.

JW ghost, demon, superstition stories
by RunningMan ini would like to write an article outlining some of the goofy stories that jws believe.
for example, when i was young, this story went around: .
a couple decided that they would miss the meeting to go to see a hypnotist.

The night before my sister got babtised she hung her new assembly dress in the wardrobe, went to sleep and when she got up the next morning her room smelt of dog dirt and her dress was ripped to shreds.
Also, when my dad first started to study he came home from the KH to find his daughter (my half sister) doing a oiujji (however you spell it) board, and the board spelt out "Kill Eric", my dad was Eric.
Before I was born my dad was listening to some composer who was apparentely possesed, all of a sudden there was a huge whirl wind in the living room, everything started flying everywhere, so he turned the music off and it stopped.
First time I've been able to talk about this without being scared, excellent!

Did you arrive/leave the meetings early/late?
by JH in.
i used to get to the meetings about half an hour before it started, and i used to leave the moment it ended.
i was just anxious to get it over with.

I usually got their 10 minutes earlier to make sure I could get a seat at the back and then leave straight away, even when I was new nobody really bothered to speak to me although I was quite popular with the oldies (strange though because a few of the young brothers got hold of my address and would send me letters although blank me at the meetings, odd).

Do you still believe in JEHOVAH?
by lowden infurther to the thread that minimus stated about 'still believing'....what i want to know is do any of you stil believe in jehovah?
that is, the named god of the bible that sanctioned the genocide of millions of unbelievers.
as the israelites came into the 'promised land' god told them to devote to destruction 7 populous nations and not let a breathing thing live, or in other words commit genocide!!!

Well, when you put it like that it does sound ridiculous to call him a god of love, however, I'm still slightly brainwashed, working on it though.
