  I'm new to the forum and desperate for support

  i will be very brief on my introduction as i need to get straight to the point.

  i was raised in the 'truth' from birth.

  i got baptized at 16 (elder dad hassled me) and managed to do the 'slow fade' at 18 (it helped that i moved 50 miles away from home).

  I hope everything goes ok with your dad's operation, I'm sure you must be very worried, its frustrating when people wont take medical advice for such stupid reasons.

  My mum had a couple of operations a few years ago, the surgeon actually told my brother that if she refused a blood transfusion she would probably die, but the stubborn thing wouldn't listen, fortunately she was very lucky and is still here today (Jehovah looked after her apparentley).

  Many Stay As JWs Because Of Social & Family Contacts

  would you agree that most people stay on as witnesses--not because they are "true believers" but because they have no place else to go or they will risk losing their family and friends?

  I know for a fact that the reason my mother is a witness is for the social life, also because she can say she is ill and all of a sudden she has a que of sisters lineing up to do her shopping, cleaning, ironing and cooking.

  She advised me once to carry on studying so that I could get help looking after my daughter while my partner was away.

  And as for my older brother, he might not be a witness for selfish reasons but he does stick around for the social life.

  Thats just a couple of examples of people I know.

  yet again my dear matt wanted to make an attempt to break the ice with my father and his stupid new wife, whom i feel no responsibility to like or accept because she's young enough to be my father's daughter (she's 29 and my father's 60!!!

  ) and she's trifling and two faced.

  i honestly feel that she's just with him for the money.

  My heart goes out to you, I've read a few of your posts and you seem to be having a really hard time of it.

  I wish I could say something that would help but there really isn't anything to say, be grateful for Matt and try to leave the rest of your family up to their own devices, there doesn't seem much point in bothering with them if they are going to treat you badly and make you feel sad and angry.

  Perhaps after not seeing much of you they will realise how they have been treating you and start making amends.

  Just remember though, its not just Jehovahs Witnesses who make for crappy family members.

  COLDPLAY OR OASIS

  but oasis cd is deeply disappointing...(i disagreed with critics on their recent releases..thought they were good).

  coldplay i also disagreed about...thought their last one was not as good as the first.

  A few years ago my partner had an accident that nearly killed him, infact, it did kill him, he died 3 times in the ambulance but they managed to bring him back each time.

  He has no memories of it, saw no lights or angels or anything.

  I'd like to believe in life after death but his experience is enough to prove to me that there is no such thing.

  about ten years ago i went to centre parcs in the uk and was surprised to find that loads of jws were taking a christmas avoidance holiday.

  does this mass holidaying still take place ?

  - seems kinda fun.

  A few years ago I heared a conversation about Jehovahs Witnesses going to Centre Parks at Christmas.

  If I remember correctly they were advised not to go anymore because if there happened to be a worldly person there who caused trouble, it is likely that the JWs would get blamed and get a bad reputation because there were so many of them there at the time.

  Good Grief - Life Celebration

  oh this one is just crazy.. a guy i know in the cong i last associated with is having his 'life celebration' party on the 2nd july.

  by strange co-incidence this is also the date that he turns 40 years old.

  so everyone is off to have a party with him to celebrate his his life.

  after years of waiting, i finally turned 18. i remember distinctly that my mother said during an argument that i would not have to attend meetings once i turned 18. well that was a lie.

  she denied ever having said such, and pulled the "under my roof" card.

  so now she is saying i have to continue attending meetings until i move out.

  Is there no way that you can get your mum to understand that the religion isn't for you?

  That by attending meetings you are being hypocritical and will be seen as such by everyone, making you look worse to the outside world and bringing reproach upon Jehovah?

  Try not to argue with her, I know how stubborn JW are in general.

  But take everyones advice and start saveing (but I'd keep this secret from her if I where you).

  when my youngest son came home from his weekend with his father, i realized it would soon be july, and my ex has a 10-day access period specified for july, and i thought i'd better write it on the calendar.

  while doing this, my son tells me he's going to go somewhere with his dad, but he's not allowed to tell me.

  i said to him, "hey, bud, you've got to tell me.

  Do you really think your son would enjoy sitting through a boring assembly, at the age of seven I think its cruel of his dad to take him.

  It would be different if he was taking him a few extra kms to go camping or something, but obviously this isn't the case.

  I think you should put a stop to it.

  Your son doesn't have to know that its a big deal.

  as mexico's centuries-old tradition of eating bugs becomes more lucrative maguey worms and ant eggs are showing up as exotic fare at expensive restaurants researchers are trying to convince poor villages to cash in on these pests as a means of income.
