Interesting theory Leolaia--and who knows--it might even be correct. I would simply like to point out that those Greek words and phrases are among some of the most common and ubiquitous in the language. Verbs such as kathisthmi (set, place) and it's various forms are every bit as common in Greek as "set" and "place" are in English. I wonder if this explanation is reading too much into the fact that some of the words and phrases are the same or similar. One big difference, Joseph's "master" never went anywhere. I don't know for a fact, but my gut instinct tells me that if you find other descriptions from Greek-speaking Jews describing a servant who is made house-steward, you would find the same verbs, adjectives and phraseology employed.

QFR Regarding How The "Slave" Is "Discreet"
by minimus ini was reading this nonsense at my mom's house yesterday and when i agreed with one of the definitions for "discreet" from the article, i said, "how could anyone think they were ever discreet when they got everything wrong from russell's day until now?
were they discreet when they said because the end is so close you shouldn't get married, have children and make families??
is that "discreet" or just the opposite???

One of the more impressive "lightning flashes" of "new light" from that recent article was that members of the anointed have NO MORE of Jehovah's spirit than non-anointed. ...........Yes, those skillful and cheerfully uneducated writers at Bethel, led (or not) by Jehovah's holy spirit, have opened a can of worms, spiritually speaking
Like many, you may be wondering what was the basis for drawing this conclusion. It turns out that a double-blind study was conducted at Bethel in which anointed and other-sheep were put through presses to wring out every last drop of their respective holy spirit which was siphoned into beakers and measured. Rumor has it that the anointed were pissed with the outcome but hey...you can't argue with science baby!

Hurricane Dean and JW's.
by integ inwhile the wtbs is no doubt scrambling about at bethel; frantically searching the scriptures in an effort to attach some prophetic meaning to this latest hurricane in the caribbean, and how it somhow relates to the importance of stepping it up in the ministry, how much time do you think they will spend on plans to help their fellowman?.
i am sure we will all hear b.s such as " this just shows how we are in the last of the last of the last days".. but oh by the way, make plans for our international convention in 2009..

I'm sure they will print up some extra life-saving "spiritual food" to distribute to the starving homeless victims.

Another reason no one cares is that most new "partakers" are assumed to be over-zealous, emotionally unstable or just plain nutters--few believe that all of them really received the "calling." (we of course know that NONE of them did )

If you think it's "possible" for extraterrestrials...
by FreedomFrog inwhy would you feel it's not probable for spirits or ghosts?.
my question came when i read this thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/140402/1.ashx.
i was reading the thread from auldsoul and i couldn't help but wonder this question.

I haven't studied on this much so I'm probably getting things wrong but I thought that our existence (from ones that believe this way) happened by chance. If it was by "chance" then how likely is this chance to happen again.
The fossil record shows that life arose within the first 1.5 billion years of earth's existence (we know it was thriving by that time because we have large fossilized colonies of microbes from that period called stromatolites). That means that it arose rather quickly and soon branched out into various forms. So the thinking among many scientists is that since life arose so quickly on earth, then perhaps any place where the conditions are right, life will tend to arise as a matter of course. If this is correct then we would expect to find life throughout the universe. This is why researchers are so interested in Mars since they now know that it had liquid water for quite some time after the formation of the solar system. If they can find evidence that life existed there at one time, it will help validate this theory.

Are you an a-xenist?
by AuldSoul in"xeno" is a common taxonomical designation for aliens (strangers) including extraterrestrials.. are you someone who lacks belief in intelligent extraterrestrial beings?
do you believe it is possible that such extraterrestrial beings exist?
do you think it is possible or likely that our planet has had interactions with extraterrestrials?.

There is only one Earth with exactly what Earth has or had at a particular time in a particular way. That makes Earth a UNIQUE (unlike others) incubator. The fact that there are billions of similar (not identical) planets is not enough.
The convergence of time and place and chemistry and happenstance unique to Earth triggered what was possible. Not probable. Possible. We have life swarming all over the EARTH.
If the Earth were closer or farther from our Sun there could be no life. Our placement is unique.
The difference between the POTENTIAL for life elsewhere has nothing to do with the ACTUAL probability of life happening.
There is no evidence that earth is unique at all. At the present time we don't have the technology to detect most earth-sized planets orbitting other stars--for all we know the universe might be (and probably is) full of them. Also, even if you accept the notion that the earth IS the optimum distance from the sun (open to debate), there is no reason why any other star system couldn't have a planet orbitting at a similar distance. The main factor is the presence of certain essentials such as water and we now know that Mars had substantial water for billions of years and the moon Titan currently is covered with an ocean underneath its icy crust. So just in our solar system alone we have two other locations which could theoretically have supported life and may do so now. When you mutiply this by all the stars in the universe you have countless posibilities for life.

Extraterrestrials are possible because the same process which led to life on earth could have occured elsewhere in the univese, i.e., WE are the living evidence that ETs are possible. Spirits and ghosts aren't possible because they are merely the products of a fertile imagination and superstitious beliefs from bygone ages--they don't really exist, here or anywhere else.

Historians of old -i.e. Josephus
by AgentSmith inrecently i have been reading some research that refers to josephus and some roman scribes that reported about jesus and his activities.
there are reportedly, thousands of writings (the bible excluded) that confirm that jesus in fact existed.
i was wondering, how many of these writers were there at the time, or was in direct contact with jesus.
-

Even if you accept the few references as genuine, they wouldn't prove anything other than that Jesus existed. None of the historians claimed to have even had contact with Jesus--let alone followed him around.
