Starting a collection of the Inexplicable JW Doctrines...
by AuldSoul ini am starting a collection of jw doctrines and practices that have no basis in the scriptures and (preferably) that the scriptures or secular history directly contradicts.
this isn''t a thread for arguing with scholar is he drops by.
i want as comprehensive a set as possible as part of a project i am working on, so even if you aren't sure of one, please toss it in the mix.

That all prophesies must have at least 3 different fulfillments
The doctrine of why gods permit wicketness, for some kind of bet with satan....
The flood was a real global flood about 4500 years ago :)
Man is only 6000 years old
New anointed ones are coming in and coming in, all for the anointed that were not faithfull. Then why the hell did God searched so many unfaithfull ones, is he that bad a judge of character?
The name of God is the most inporttant thing, even if we do not know how it was pronounced, we use some form of it and make it an absolute truth
birthdays. There is just not a single valid reason not to celebrate

Prostitution and Marijuana
by free2beme ini feel that as a country we waste so much time and money fighting prostitution and marijuana use.
not that i think these things are something everyone should use, but the fact that we make these illegal and yet other things happen that are the same thing, or worse.
for example, in nevada, outside the city limits, it is legal for prostitution.

yes I did too, I spend a lot of my money on woman and drugs. The rest of my money i wasted :)
Now serious,
I think both prostitution and use of marihuana should be legal. Not that mariuhana is completely harmless and prostitution is without negative effects but:
1) criminalizing it, makes it only worse. For drugs, the line between soft and hard drugs becomes very thin. You're already doing something criminal... For prostitution, the line between 'normal' prostitution and under age woman working or not voluntairy working becomes thin.
2) These are individual matters. Nobody elses concern.

Have you ever said " Happy Hanukkah" to a Jew?
by moshe inwe went out to lunch today and when the server brought our check he wished us a merry christmas.
my six year old daughter piped up " we celebrate hanukkah".
when the server returned he couldn't get out a " happy hannukah" - he stumbled for words- finally said something about a happy holiday.

No have never said this,
do not know exactly what that holyday is also.

What were the reasons you would say it was "the truth"?
by DannyBloem injust a question, because i'm trying to find out how to bring up good arguments to people still in the borg.... a) what were the reasons when you were (or are) still a jw that you would say that "you were in the truth"?.
b) and what would you say now, that were the reasons that you thought it was the troof?.
a) 1) the prophecies come truth.

Sorry Dannybloem....I got right off the thread. Got carried away. Forget it.
no problem. I understand this whole thing. I was luckly to be allowed an education by my parents, even though they were almost put on restrictions for it. Then started pioneering also, and could have done a lot better if I did not try to study and pioneer at the same time...

Just a question, because I'm trying to find out how to bring up good arguments to people still in the borg...
A) What were the reasons when you were (or are) still a JW that you would SAY that "you were in the truth"?
B) And what would you say now, that were the reasons that you thought it was the troof?
For me:
A) 1) The prophecies come truth
2) The love in the organisation, and everywhere in the world people believed the same
3) How bible and archeology, and bible and science seemed to matchB) 1) because I was born into it
2) etc.It is funy that the think that I hated most deep in my heart, ÿou have to think and say like they do"was just one of the reasons that I thought it was the troof: that everyone believed the same...
Isn't that ironic?Danny

Which religion is right for you?
by seesthesky inyou scored as judaism.
your views are closest to those of judaism.
if you are not a jew, do more research on judaism and possibly consider becoming one; however, realize that conversion to judaism is difficult.
