yesterday, may 15, 2006, gyldendal publishing company in copenhagen, denmark, published an expose' about the religion of jehovah's witnesses.
the name of the new book is, "dommedag ma vente," or, in english, "judgment day must wait," written by poul bregninge of denmark.
Read the article, it is very very interesting.
It is a pity that most JWs would never read it, given that it comes from such an "apostate" source.
I have heard David Iannelli speak on several occasions, he does have a gift for making an appealing, emotional delivery. Given his speaking style, I can occasionally pick out articles from the WT which he wrote, at least partially.
I was always under the impression that he falls on the more "liberal" side of the camp at Bethel. Is that correct?

Never thought it possible that someone would be able to blow thru their 75 post-per-day limit on a thread talking about why Kingdom Halls don't have windows!
large numbers of jw congregations are going to be trouble long before they lose their last elder to death or resignation.. most congregations i know have at least one - and often several - elders who can barely function at all, due to illness, old age.
or just plain inability to accomplish anything.
the society seems loathe to remove these men, despite their 'elder in name only'.

You're right, you got me. It's a fair cop.
The real reason is the sacrificing of chickens. Witnesses sacrifice chickens as part of their liturgy, and if there were windows, PETA would be able to see in and there would be hell to pay.

Well, you see, most windows have 4 panes of glass, right? And what is the support structure for those 4 panes? A cross! And we all know crosses were used by pagans, so therefore....

I think the reason is mostly economic. It is easier to heat and cool a windowless building. Plus there is less opportunity for vandals to cause damage.
Most new Kingdom Halls come from a set of pre-approved "quick-build" designs. Those designs lack windows, so the majority of the Kingdom Halls you see are windowless.

So, it will come down to which they want more, power or money. They can't have all of both, they'll have to give up some to have the other.
There it is, in a nutshell.
Given the history of the org., I'd say they are more interested in power. The money has its perks, but I think what really "gets them off" (the GB, that is) is the idea that they are God's hand-picked spokesmen, and that everywhere they go, hundreds, thousands, even hundreds of thousands will listen to them speak for hours on end, then shower them with applause, then stand in line for 2 hours just for the chance to shake their hand and get their picture taken with them.

We had a child abuse case in our kh last year, and though the abuser eventually confessed to the police and received a prison sentence, he is still a jw as he has repented, and will be welcomed back on his release, whereas his now ex - wife and his 2 baptised daughters have been df'd for going to the police.
I'm very surprised by this. Here in the US, a few years ago, thre was a letter read to the elders in which it was stated that the parents had "an absolute right" to go to the police if they so chose. It specifically said that no juducial action should be taken against parents who do so.
Do you know what specific charge the wife & daughters were D-F'ed for? Slander, loose conduct, etc.?
i don't know if it has been discussed here, but i feel that due to the growing influence of its "legal eagles" the wt is changing a lot of its "judicial terminology" lately.
one major change was the wording of the announcement for d'f'ng or d'a'ng ("x is no longer a member of jehovah's witnesses" or something to that effect).. from very recent french documents i came across, it appears the term "excommunication" is regularly used instead of "disfellowshipping," and "committee of religious discipline" instead of "judicial committee".
has the same trend been observed in the english-speaking community?
What kind of "documents"? Letters from the Society, or press releases, or news stories, or something else?
Aside from the already-mentioned "Joe Sinner is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses" announcements, I have not noticed any change here in the US. But perhaps I don't have access to the same type of documents you are seeing.
a few days ago, someone posted an email that was sent by a sister in bethel.. a follow up post gives some more info on the reorganization in brooklyn bethel and the district convention theme.. any comments?.

Does anyone know the LAST time a tract was specifically canvassed among the public to advertise the district convention?
I don't think the WTS has ever done anything this blatantly ignorant, inviting people hundreds of miles away fom the convention site, who have never expressed the slightest interest in even attending the local Kingdom Hall in their own neighborhood, to come and listen to the program for 3 days.
There were special campaigns in the 70's and 80's, in the convention cities, to share in a witnessing work to the residents in the convention city, to attend the Sunday "public discourse".
Going farther back, of course, there were the "sandwich board" guys in the 30's who advertised Rutherford's talks at various conventions.
